Overview

Cars like the 2017 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Sedan might not be able to give you the direct benefits one might expect from its hybrid powertrain. However, its use must not be overlooked. The Avalon hybrid uses its 2.5L Inline 4 engine and a 1.6 kWh battery to produce 200 horsepower and 156 lb-ft of torque. This gives the Avalon hybrid a 0-60 of 7.4 seconds. The hybrid engine here is to support the gasoline engine to boost performance and offer slightly better fuel economy than what a single gasoline engine would be capable of. That said, the 2018 Avalon hybrid achieves a combined fuel economy of 40 MPG. As part of the fullsize sedan class, the Avalon Hybrid indirectly competes with the Honda Accord Hybrid, the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, and the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid all of which belong to the midsize sedan segment. It offers 3 trims, starting off at an MSRP of $37,300.

Buying Advice

Our recommendation is the XLE Premium which slots in between the base and top-level trim, as it offers a good balance of features and functionality for its price tag. It adds features such as fog lights, driver-seat memory settings, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, Entune Premium Audio with Navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and a few more features. We also strongly recommend the Toyota Safety Sense package which grants access to features like automatic pre-collision braking, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning and intervention.
