Overview

Pagani has been one of the most influential automotive giants with unmatched craftsmanship and awe-inspiring feats of engineering. The Huayra has always been one of their most robust offerings and for good reasons. The sheer attention to detail be it outside or inside is simply breathtaking and the staggering craftsmanship only helps to embolden its visage. The incredible V12 engine is powerful enough to take you flying through the freeway and the sloping roofline coupled with huge aerodynamic vents all over the Huayra would make sure you look the best when doing it. The coupe wants you to go fast, it tempts you with its immaculately sculpted alloy accelerator pedal to let this carbon-fiber coupe go the speed it wants you to.

The 2014 Pagani Huayra is not just an eye candy, it incorporates active aerodynamics and is capable of changing its height in the front and also independently operating four flaps placed on the front and rear of the car. 2014 would also be the first iteration of the Huayra that would come to the US.

Buying Advice

As the Huayra can be customized to infinity, there is a treasure trove of options given to the buyer just to counteract the single trim offering. Keeping in mind that other variants like the BC and Roadster would still be years in the making, the choice makes a lot of sense. We for one enjoyed the Huayra without any paint, however, the exposed Carbon Fiber body would add an additional $150,000 to the price of the coupe. Along with that, we also liked the silver wheels on the car which contrast well with the paint or lack thereof. This would add a further $4,700 to Huayra’s already exorbitant price tag.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2014 Pagani Huayra is not just an eye candy, it incorporates active aerodynamics and is capable of changing its height in the front and also independently operating four flaps placed on the front and rear of the car. 2014 would also be the first iteration of the Huayra that would come to the US. It also has various adaptations to it over its cycle of production like the Huayra BC, a track-ready variant, the Huayra Roadster, more recently the Huayra Roadster BC, the esteemed Huayra Tricolore, and more. With competition in this class being vague at best, we will still compare the Pagani Huayra with the McLaren P1, the Ferrari LaFerrari, and the Koenigsegg Agera R.

Features

With incredibly limited production being a signature of Pagani, the 2014 Pagani Huayra comes in a single trim offering. The car is insanely customizable as production starts with detailed specifications ordered by the buyer. The standard twin-turbocharged V12 engine is more than enough to produce hair-raising speed and do so continuously without exception. The Huayra brings an RWD drivetrain along with Ohlins suspension and Pirelli tires to make it a fine-tuned performance machine. It also features Carbotanium bodywork for a lower curb weight and an active suspension setup that helps the car lower itself for better performance on the track.

The Pagani Huayra was and remains a product crafted with precision and respect both for the craft and for its limited pool of owners. Taking lessons from the Zonda, the Huayra would build and excel in almost every regard. It didn’t so much as offer any packages but almost everything was customizable and the paint scheme could be altered as wished by the owner, for a hefty price of course.

The 2014 Pagani Huayra has been discontinued but remains popular albeit incredibly pricey offering in the used market.

Engine and Performance

Coming to the strengths of the 2014 Pagani Huayra, it comes with an insanely powerful 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine which helps it attain over 730 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. This insanely powerful engine procured from Mercedes-AMG is a much better alternative to the naturally aspirated variant on previous cars and is mated to a 7-Speed Sequential Manual Transmission. A dual-clutch transmission was not used so as to lower the weight as much as possible. All of this runs on an RWD drivetrain which makes the Huayra a more precise and accurate beast on the road. The 2014 Huayra could go from 0 to 60 in a mere 2.8 seconds and has a similarly insane top speed of 238 mph.

The Koenigsegg Agera R has the highest horsepower output and the highest top speed. The Ferrari LaFerrari comes with a more conventional engine and still has the quickest acceleration however it also has the lowest top speed. The Pagani Huayra takes the longest among the supercars to accelerate and is on par with the Agera R, it also has the third-highest top speed. The Mclaren P1 has a hybrid powertrain coming with a 4.4 kWh battery which helps it stay on par with its competitors in terms of acceleration but it has the lowest top speed.

2014 Pagani Huayra Ride and Handling

Another strong suit of the 2014 Pagani Huayra, is its handling. Aided by Pirelli P Zero tires, the Huayra sticks to the ground and handles with extreme precision which is necessary for a car going as fast as it. It also comes with active aerodynamic aids which are a godsend as these make the Huayra the most stable among cars with an RWD drivetrain. The Huayra stays composed and capable on turns and the drag is minimal. The active suspension also helps the car lower its ground clearance for better control when necessary making it both adaptable and committed on the performance front. The ride is as good as it gets, the bucket seats hug you and brace you so as to unleash the speeds of the Huayra and the suspension is sporty making the car glide over bumps with its 19-inch wheels with ease.

2014 Pagani Huayra Braking performance

A powerful supercar with incredible acceleration and similarly high top speeds requires quick and accurate braking to make it safe. The 2014 Pagani Huayra does not disappoint with its carbon-ceramic discs coupled with racing pads. The car is incredibly light, coming with a curb weight of only 2882 lbs which makes braking easier and more efficient. The braking action feels solid and the brakes engage predictably which inspires confidence in the driver. The beautifully designed alloy brake pedal looks beautiful in its own right and engages smoothly and effortlessly making it easy and comfortable even at higher speeds.

The Pagani Huayra has the lowest curb weight which makes its stopping distance the second lowest among its competitors. The Ferrari LaFerrari has the biggest brake rotors and the lowest braking distance while having the highest curb weight among the supercars. The Koenigsegg Agera R has the second biggest brake rotors and the second lowest curb weight which helps it brake more efficiently. The McLaren P1 has the third biggest brake rotors and the second highest curb weight making its stopping distance the highest amongst the competition. Overall, the Ferrari LaFerrari takes the first spot when it comes to braking closely followed by the Pagani Huayra.

Fuel Economy

As a supercar, we rarely expect the 2014 Pagani Huayra to blow you away with its fuel efficiency. Even less so when the aforementioned 6.0L twin-turbo V12 engine comes into the mix. However, the 2014 Huayra has an estimated fuel efficiency of 11 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway for a combined fuel efficiency of 13 mpg. It comes with a fairly large 19.0-gallon fuel tank which helps its driving range figures. The Huayra has an estimated driving range ranging from 209 miles in the city and 323 miles on the highway for a combined driving range of around 247 miles.

The McLaren P1 steals the show when it comes to fuel efficiency but the smaller gas tank hinders its driving range which remains the third highest. The Koenigsegg Agera R has the second-best fuel efficiency but the smallest gas tank giving it an adequate driving range that is slightly higher than the LaFerrari's. The Ferrari LaFerrari has the second-best fuel efficiency and the second-highest fuel capacity giving it the second-highest driving range. The Pagani Huayra gets a fuel efficiency similar to the LaFerrari but has a smaller fuel capacity hindering its driving range.

Interior

Coming inside, the 2014 Pagani Huayra rewards its user with an incredibly well-furnished cabin. The interiors have been beautifully designed and stylized with a circular form factor in mind. The liberal use of chrome on the dashboard and the Huarya logo embossed on the dash give it a nice touch. The flat-bottom carbon fiber steering wheel is incredibly appealing with leather grips for added comfort and a premium feel. The aluminum knobs also make it strikingly beautiful as the Huarya takes a driver-centric approach to the cockpit. The outward visibility is excellent and the snug bucket seats make the feeling of sitting inside even better. The upper row headroom could be an issue for particularly tall individuals as the Huayra is a sloping roofline that isn’t particularly tall, to begin with.

As we have no data on the interior dimensions of any of these supercars, we cannot fairly judge them. However, we did observe the McLaren P1 and Koenigsegg Agera R to be slightly on the spacious side if that’s a necessity.

Some of the standout interior features of the 2014 Pagani Huayra include:-

  • Premium Leather Upholstery
  • Customizable interior Ambient lighting
  • Carbon Fiber steering wheel
  • Aluminum knobs
  • automatic air conditioning system
  • Leather stitching on the Dashboard

2014 Pagani Huayra Infotainment System

Coming to the technical abilities of the 2014 Pagani Huayra, it rocks a central touchscreen display with all the usual additions and graphics which are smooth and crisp. It includes Am/Fm radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and a few USB outlets. However, standard features like Apple CarPlay or Android Auto will not be making an appearance in the Huayra’s infotainment system, nor is there support for satellite radio. The Infotainment system has a decent and easy-to-learn UI but the touchscreen itself isn’t very responsive which is one of its major drawbacks.

Some of the standard features in the 2014 Pagani Huayra’s infotainment system include:-

  • 9-channel sound system
  • Am/Fm radio
  • Analog gauge cluster
  • Central touchscreen
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • USB support

Exterior

The 2014 Pagani Huayra has a Carbotanium body, both carbon fiber and titanium have been used for the construction. This has given the Huayra a low curb weight along with sharp and edgy exterior accents to make sure people admire its elegant craftsmanship no matter where it goes. The front features a clamshell hood that contains bi-xenon headlights below which there are LED running lights. Built as an homage to the supersonic aircraft coming in right after the second world war, the Huayra also features Variable flaps on each corner which can be adjusted even when stationary. The rear features a tri-led tail light setup along with quad exhausts laid out in the signature Pagani fashion. The car sits on 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels which help contrast the stunning exterior with a smooth finish.

The Ferrari LaFerrari is the heaviest and longest among all the coupes along with having the second highest ground clearance. The Pagani Huayra takes second place with the lowest ground clearance, longest wheelbase, and second-longest body among the supercars. The McLaren P1 comes right after it with the highest ground clearance and the third longest body. The Koenigsegg Agera R, on the other hand, has the shortest body and the second lowest ground clearance but surprisingly it has a longer wheelbase than the LaFerrari.

Some of the standout exterior features of the 2014 Pagani Huayra include:-

  • Clamshell hood
  • Bi-xenon headlights
  • LED running lights
  • tri-led tail lights
  • Pagani’s signature quad exhaust setup
  • 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels

Safety

Although the 2014 Pagani Huayra has not been tested by the NHTSA or the IIHS, it was tested rigorously by Pganai themselves. Its Carbotanium body withstood over fifty safety inspections on just two bodies and the bodies still remain intact. The car is rigid in the truest sense of the word as it is reinforced with carbon fiber which keeps the weight low while keeping the occupants protected. It also has a standard backup camera for better visibility when parking in congested areas of the city. Furthermore, it has a traction control system, an antilock braking system, parking sensors, cruise control, and carbon-ceramic brakes to make sure the car and its occupants remain intact and safety is prioritized at every step.

Some of the standout safety features in the 2014 Pagani Huayra include:-

  • Standard backup camera
  • Parking sensors
  • Cruise control
  • Carbotanium body
  • Traction control
  • Carbon-ceramic brakes

Competition

2014 Pagani Huayra VS 2014 McLaren P1

Pagani has been doing what McLaren does best, making outlandish looking cars with incredible engineering and craftsmanship, thus the two giants would come toe to toe eventually. The P1, however, is much more practical than the Huayra with a higher horsepower output which gives it a better track performance, better fuel economy, and a higher driving range. The Huayra, meanwhile, has a higher top speed, a lighter build, quicker braking action and a lower braking distance, a longer body, and wheelbase, and finally a lower ground clearance. The Pagani Huayra thus holds its own relatively well against the McLaren P1.

2014 Pagani Huayra VS 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari

Ferrari has been in the automotive scene for way longer than Pagani. However, ever since their inception, Pagani has aspired to beat other fellow Italian brands in terms of exclusivity and engineering. The Huayra has a higher top speed, a lighter body, a longer build, better ground clearance, and a longer wheelbase when compared to the LaFerrari. The LaFerrari, on the other hand, has quicker acceleration, quicker braking action and lower braking distance, better fuel efficiency, and a longer driving range. It outcompetes the Huayra when on the track with its handling but the Huayra is a much more exclusive offering limited to only 100 produced each year.

2014 Pagani Huayra VS Koenigsegg Agera R

A brand that does not enjoy the more conventional limelight occupied by luxury car manufacturers is Koenigsegg. The Swedish automaker has been a more pronounced name in the drag racing sector due to its high-performance sports cars. The Koenigsegg Agera R is an offering with a much higher top speed, a more fuel-efficient drivetrain, and a longer driving range. The Pagani Huayra, meanwhile, has a lighter build, quicker braking action and lower braking distance, a longer build, a lower ground clearance, and a longer wheelbase. The Huayra fares well against the Agera R and even comes out on top in various regards.

Final Verdict

We would highly recommend getting the 2014 Pagani Huayra if available. It isn’t the fastest, nor the most pristine in terms of ride quality, but it is an experience worth sharing. As a prestigious and exclusive car, the 2014 Pagani Huayra has been the talk of the town for nearly a decade now. Most car enthusiasts have dreamt of owning one and the top-notch engineering inside has been the envy of many car designers. Pagani has utilized and addressed all the shortcomings of the Zonda with the Huarya and the car remains an incredibly exotic masterpiece that deserves all the praise it gets. The sonorous V12 engine, the phenomenal performance, the unapologetic design, and the sheer attention to detail, all combined make the 2014 Huayra one of the most underrated and underappreciated performance-oriented coupes of our time. It has its issues like the extremely limited production cycle and the clunky infotainment screen along with the low headroom, but it more than makes up for its inadequacies with all the features and impressive specs it comes with.
