Bringing a healthy dose of power to the midsize sedan class, the 2014 Nissan Maxima is a car that is worth your attention. We see that this car is quite nice even if you like being in the backseat, with its plush ride quality and good interior materials. With starting prices at an MSRP $32,535 it can get quite expensive as you go of the trim levels but you will not be disappointed with the level of equipment. Predicted maintenance costs for five years are about $2,431 which is quite low for the category. It has reported a total of 77 complaints and 0 recalls this year with most problems being about the lighting, airbag as well as the powertrain. It competes against rivals like the Honda Accord, the Toyota Camry, and the Mazda 6, which means it has to fight for every bit of market share. Let us find out more about the 2014 Nissan Maxima problems through this article.

2014 Nissan Maxima User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical problems:

  1. The most common complaint regarding the Nissan Maxima is the fact that many cars have stalled and were not able to be moved because Nissan CVT transmissions can fail catastrophically. This can cause life-threatening situations because nothing can be done.
  2. Many cars have reported that they have stalled while being driven and were re-started after a few attempts.
  3. Rarely, cars have reported problems with the brakes as well as with the control arms of the suspension. Random sounds produced from the suspension are also common and owners have had to replace ball joints, shocks, etc.
  4. Some cars have had power steering failures which make it very hard to steer and can often lead to disaster.

Electrical system problems:

  1. It is a commonly reported problem that the instrument panel goes completely blank while driving. This was followed by an unknown warning light and the vehicle can be stranded abruptly in the middle of the road.
  2. One car had a whole host of electrical problems and engine problems happening at the same time which made the owner completely lose trust in the car.
  3. Another owner had an issue where the lights become dim then the driver keeps one foot on the gas pedal and goes back to bright when the foot is let off.
  4. In the cars with the headlight trouble, there is also an issue with the automatic settings for the headlight.
  5. In a lot of cars, the headlight can intermittently shut off and cause a complete lack of mission while driving at night. The car has to be shut down and restarted multiple times to fix the problem. This happens to the low beam lights while everything else seems to function well.

Safety problems:

  1. A few owners have reported issues with the forward collision warning in the car engaging abruptly. This turns a safety feature into one that greatly compromises the safety of occupants.
  2. Many owners have been complaining about airbag warning lights not going away despite the cars not being involved in any situation where such a light should be there.
  3. One can also see that the airbags have failed to deploy in several collisions and this represents a serious lapse in safety. Many passengers have been injured in these situations.
  4. Multiple cases of the seatbelts being stuck have also been reported.
  5. A few cases of the sunroof shattering while driving has also been reported.

Should you buy the 2014 Nissan Maxima?

The Nissan Maxima is a good car that might have found a lot more customers had it not been in such an intensely competitive segment. It provides you with a very powerful engine, good handling characteristics, great interiors as well as a long list of features. It is quite reliable as we have observed from the article above and the owners have been quite happy with how the car has performed. We would recommend our readers buy this car if they really like it because there is not much to worry about reliability if you’re going through with the decision. This car tends to be slightly expensive as you go up the trim levels but this year also brings a lot of equipment that makes it special.
