... hard and uncomfortable. I hate that rubber band feeling and takes forever to get up to speed when merging on the highway. 70,000kms later in 4 years, now there are major steering issues I am on the hook for when the 2020,2021,2022, and the 2023’s all have the same issue but are under recall where the 2019’s are not.Read More

... won't even respond back to him. Stay far away from Larry H Miller Nissan in Mesa, AZ and stay far away from the Kicks. Nissan has a class action lawsuit and has had to settle thousands of claims with their junk CVT transmissions. The Yugo was a better vehicle than this! This was by far the worst vehicle I've ever owned.Read More

... road noises sound like you have the windows open, only one year of owning it and rust is already appearing on the roof. The crash sensors go off for no reason, transmission shifts hard in occasions, the dash speakers sound awful and the dealership does not want to replace them even though the car is still under warranty. The headset unit was replaced 3 months of owning it due to problems. Accelerating is abismal. Overall, not worth it.Read More

Nissan is known to make cars in almost all price ranges and formats and the Nissan Kicks is their sub-compact SUV which is a segment that is important for any mass-market manufacturer. The 2019 Nissan Kicks is a peppy-looking SUV with a decent enough power and cabin space but the major focus for this car is its value and a starting price of $18,640 is a reasonable number for what the car offers.

2019 Nissan Kicks

With just 1 recall and 33 complaints, the Nissan Kicks seems to be a car that can cause very fewer issues and in terms of reliability, the Kicks stacks up well against its rivals but there are many cars in this segment that offer much better performance. The major contenders are the Honda HR-V, the Hyundai Kona, and the Mazda CX-3.

2019 Nissan Kicks User Complaints and Problems

Electrical Problems

  • Automatic electronic brake – The system failed to work as intended and the dealers just calibrated the software but didn’t repair anything.
  • Forward collision avoidance – Some users reported the forward collision light turns on when there are no vehicles ahead and this gets the car to a complete stop when least expected.
  • Electrical glitch – Some users reported the car alarm going on at random times requiring the users to turn it off using the key fob and there also have been instances when the radio turns on and off by itself.
  • Sensors – Some sensors like the check engine, traction control, and the front proximity randomly blink giving false alarms ultimately stopping the car.

Mechanical Problems

  • Transmission – Some reports state that the CVT transmission causes sudden drops in speeds with rumbling noise making it dangerous around other vehicles and there also was a claim that it would smell like burnt rubber when the speed drops happen.
  • Engine – The engine was reported to shut off while accelerating at a slow turn. This was claimed to be happening due to poor fueling.
  • Fuel gauge – The reading that is shown on the gauge was way lower than what was actually in the tank and this required a quick reset to get the gauge to work as intended.
  • Steering – A user stated that the car would sway from one side to another and the steering wheel would vibrate when driving over small bumps.

Safety Problems

  • Airbags – The airbags failed to deploy during a front collision resulting in the driver suffering some head injuries.

Exterior Problems

  • Tires – Low-pressure warning flashes very often as the tires lose air within small time frames.

Interior Problems

  • Rear camera – The display gets too dim making it hard to see what is behind the car during daylight.

Should you buy the 2019 Nissan Kicks?

The Nissan Kicks undoubtedly is a good car when it comes to fuel economy and number of complaints. The competitors are much more powerful than the 2019 Kicks and the only differentiating factor that the rivals offer is performance. If power, 0-60 mph times and top speed aren’t really your priority, we highly recommend picking the 2019 Nissan Kicks as it offers enough space with the best in class gas mileage all for a starting price that undercuts its competitor’s price tags by a decent margin. The Nissan Kicks offers all the basics that are expected from a car from this segment and the car feels well built, comfortable, and practical which is what is important when looking for a car under the $20 grand mark.
