2022 Nissan Armada User Complaints and Problems
Across the 2nd gen iterations spanning across half a decade (2017-2022), the Nissan Armada registers 3 recalls but a handful of complaints. Most problems with the Nissan Armada lineup concern the electrical components and systems of the car. Here’s a quick read-through of the problems with the Nissan Armada lineup.
Mechanical Complaints
- Loss of engine power: Loss of engine power/drive has been a known issue with the Nissan Armada lineup. Users have complained about the vehicle losing the engine power followed by engine stalling. Abrupt engine stalling possesses a threat of being rear-ended under driving conditions.
- Transmission issues: Transmission problems have been common with the Nissan Armada lineup. The known transmission issues with the Armada are the jamming of the gearbox and incorrect gear shifting. Customer complaints report instances of the gearbox jamming on the ‘park’ mode and hesitant or premature gear shifts.
Electrical Complaints
- Battery drains: Battery drains are the most reported problem with the Nissan Armada lineup and the problem has persisted across both generations of the lineup. Customers complain of sudden and repeated battery drainage resulting in loss of electric power as well as the drive power. Abrupt loss of power under driving conditions puts both the operator as well as other motorists at risk of crashing.
- Auto Emergency Braking malfunction: AEB malfunction is a common issue with the Nissan Armada lineup. Some user complaints have reported their Nissan armada detecting false triggers for front collision leading to activation of auto emergency brakes. Sudden braking and stopping of the vehicle can result in crashing.
- Sonar malfunction: Cases of Sonar malfunction are not as common as AEB malfunctions but user complaints report false detection of vehicle presence triggering the AEB. Unforeseen braking possesses a risk of crashing.
- Display control unit failure: Display control module (DCM) failure is another common issue with the Armada. Registered customer complaints report cases of failure of DCM leading to fluctuations on the dashboard and the speedometer lighting. To fix this, users need to replace the Instrument Cluster
- BCI malfunction: The backup collision intervention malfunction is the next common problem with the Nissan Armada. As per complaints, users have reported the BCI not detecting potential threats while reversing the vehicle and blanking out of the BCI display. Cases of BCI malfunction have resulted in crashes.

2022 Nissan Armada Recalls
Nissan has never backed off if a lineup has required a recall. The same goes for the Nissan Armada. The only difference here is that the second-generation Armada lineup has not come across a need for recalls. Yet, the second-generation Nissan Armada has recorded 3 counts of recalls spanning across the 6 model years. In cases of recalls, Nissan ensures timely assistance to the customers but there have been instances where dealerships struggled to procure the required parts, delaying the recall. A brief record of recalls is as follows.

Which Nissan Armada model year should you avoid?
The Nissan Armada has been a reliable vehicle lineup and has come across very few cases of recalls and major problems. Taking an account of the number of recalls and complaints, the 2015 Nissan Armada(3 recalls, 16 complaints) and the 2017 Nissan Armada(44 complaints) are the iterations to avoid.
Should you buy a used Nissan Armada?
The Nissan Armada is a tough and reliable vehicle that works great for touring. For a reasonable budget, the Armada is a vehicle to count upon. Since many Nissan dealerships and car rentals opt for the first-generation Nissan Armada as a reliable choice for a rental touring vehicle, it does not make sense to buy a used first-gen Armada. In the case of the second generation, the recent Nissan Armada lineups offer the same reliability and durability with added comfort and driving pleasure. This makes a used second-generation Nissan Armada a better choice.
