... you feel like you're dealing with a mom/pop business....very low grade....as if the company can't afford any better. As far as warranty and repairs, if it is not a minor issue, they do not even what to hear about it. So between a subpar product and crappy service, one should look else where. ... hours for a 1/2 repair or more to have the recalls taken care of. I'm disappointed in the reliability and lack of dealers. For the time we have to spend driving and the expense to get the recalls taken care of we do not feel that this vehicle is right for us and do not think I would recommend this vehicle to someone else.Read More

There was a time when Mitsubishis had absolutely ruled the market but things have changed for the worse now. The manufacturer still offers several incredible cars like the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander. We can also observe that owners have only reported 39 complaints out of which many are covered through the 4 recalls issued by the brand. Some of these complaints are regarding Mitsubishi Outlander door lock problems, transmission problems, airbag-related problems, and so on. Prices start at an MSRP of $24,390, which makes it quite affordable for many. That said, its segment has several value-for-money options like the Mazda CX-5, the Toyota RAV4, and the Hyundai Tucson

"HOWSTUFFINMYCARWORKS" brings you the necessary content on the automotive industry. Even "HOWSTUFFINMYCARWORKS" has noticed defective door latches and defective engine control relays just as we do. To know more, click on the video below:

2017 Mitsubishi Outlander User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical problems:

  1. In many cases, the emergency brake gets stuck and the alarm sounds while driving. The brake is not able to be released.
  2. Many owners have faced situations where the brakes had to be replaced so frequently because they were producing loud sounds. In another common brake problem, some owners have had complete loss of braking.
  3. When one car was in waiting for a traffic signal, the emergency brake had a failure and the auto-hold function was not available. Braking was not possible in this situation and the driver reported that the problem went away after restarting.
  4. In another common Mitsubishi Outlander transmission problem, many owners have had the car revving but not accelerating or changing gear. It seems to get stuck in a particular gear or shift down when it is supposed to be shifting up.
  5. A few contacts had reported that while driving at the speeds, the vehicle would stall without warning. This happens due to several reasons and is sometimes accompanied by a check engine light.

Electrical system problems:

  1. Many owners have reported to the car drains its batteries too quickly. Despite replacing it many times, the problem does not get solved.

Interior problems:

  1. There were multiple cars with the issue of the front driver seat being loose despite being bought new.

Exterior problems:

  1. Many owners have discovered that the sunroof of the car also exploded inward when there was no apparent impact. Multiple complaints regarding the windshield cracking have also been registered.
  2. The pneumatic strut used in the trunk exploded in one case and went through the right tail light.
  3. There was one complaint about a car having defective windshield wipers.
  4. Many owners had problems with the headlight bulbs in the low beam setting going out despite being replaced multiple times. This sometimes applies to the interior lights as well.

Safety problems:

  1. Although many cars are covered in a seatbelt recall, owners still say that many of them have been left out. Since this is the part that can directly affect safety, they are concerned as well. This happens to be one of the top Mitsubishi Outlander common problems.
  2. Multiple owners have reported that the airbags failed to deploy during collisions. In other cases, the airbag warning light comes on in many cars.

Should you buy the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander?

The Mitsubishi Outlander is hands-down the most practical car in its segment due to its excellent space allocation. It is quite good on the reliability front as well one of the only problems would be the fact that it is not as fun to drive as some of the competitors. Although there are a few Mitsubishi Outlander CVT problems, these are very few and might not affect a large number of owners. Overall, we would recommend this car as a great choice for families.
