There are two options to choose from; luxury and performance and they get you personalized material for seats and other trims. The Luxury includes engine bay lighting, luxury leather interior, and electric, heated memory sports seats. The Performance trim mimics Luxury, but swaps leather for Alcantara and Nappa leather, loses the powered seats, and adds carbon fiber trim inside and out.If you are music fanatic then the optional sound system is made for you.

Fuel Economy
5.0/10

"We estimate the mid-engine machine would achieve between 15 mpg in the city, 22 mpg on the highway, and 18 mpg combined." - Car and Driver

Supercars are not meant for fuel-efficiency. Surprisingly the McLaren 720 s doesn't guzzle gas like a track monster and is able to return 22 mpg on the highway. The fuel economy ratings are pretty good for this segment. It will not be the cheaper car to drive but earning 15 mpg in the city and 18 mpg combined makes the best of both worlds.

The Mclaren 720 S wins the fuel economy war followed by the Aston Martin Superleggera. The Ferrari 812 superfast doesn't deliver a pretty good number and get ready for long monthly fuel bills with the Aventador SVJ.

Interior
9.9/10

"The core of every 720S is its carbon-fiber tub that helps limit weight and ensure rigidity, all while protecting passengers. Contained within this lightweight structure is a two-seat cabin that caters to the driver. While its interior design is less flashy than rivals from Ferrari and Lamborghini, the aesthetic is pleasing, and outward visibility is excellent"- Carandriver

Seating and Comfort of the 2020 McLaren 720s

The inside of the 720 S is an ode to carbon fiber, the elegant interior architecture features the finest hand-stitched leather, satin-chrome highlights, and race-bred center console. The interior follows McLaren's design philosophy of "Everything for a reason" and every curve has its purpose. The portrait-styled infotainment screen is focused on drivers with transmission control stacked over each other. Getting in and out of the car will be ridiculously easy with dihedral doors as compared to other McLaren's.

The seat cushions are firm with lumbar adjustment, they provide a great level of support for thighs and back. Although supportive, they are not meant for long rides as non-perforated seats don't breathe well. Seats can accommodate a wide variety of individuals as the steering tilts and telescopes. The mid-engine is mounted so low that ensures exceptional driving dynamics and thin pillars help in great outward visibility.

When it comes to craftsmanship, the Aston Martin, Ferrari, and Lamborghini offer the best in terms of fit and finish. The 812 superfast is has a more classic configuration while Lamborghini's cockpit is made like a jetfighter with a slanting dashboard and aggressively styled dashboard. The interior of the Superleggera is traditional Aston Martin with a thick transmission tunnel but with two seats more in the rear which none of the rivals have. None of them feels as advanced and fresh as the McLaren "organic" design.

Infotainment System of the 2020 McLaren 720s

A seven-inch touchscreen offers intuitive control over the McLaren IRIS infotainment system. Standard specification includes:

  • MIS (McLaren Infotainment System) 7" high-resolution touch screen monitor
  • On-board memory
  • McLaren 4-speaker audio system
  • Audio media player
  • AM/FM & DAB radio
  • Bluetooth telephony
  • USB connectivity x2
  • Voice control for infotainment

Cargo Capacity of the 2020 McLaren 720s

The 720 Ss nose-mounted boot is a useful size and there's a shelf for soft bags and coats behind the seats, so you could easily find room for a long weekend's baggage for two.

We do not have complete information regarding the cargo space offered by all the cars in considerations. However, of the information that we have, the 2020 Mclaren 720 s offers the largest cargo room that measures 12.7 cubic feet. The 2020 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera ranks second according to our records with an offering of 9 cubic feet as its cargo room.

Exterior
9.9/10

"The 720S's stunning body is made possible by the extensive use of high-strength, lightweight carbon-fiber composite. It's used to form the passenger cell, as well as the thin A-pillars so they can support the scissor-style doors." -Kelly Blue Book

Dimension and Weight of the 2020 McLaren 720s

Highly inspired from the 650 S, the 720 S fuses the thrill of a supercar in stunning exterior design for optimum aerodynamic efficiency. Beautiful shrink-wrapped aluminum metal panels and teardrop-shaped cockpit makes up for the lowest drag resistance. The low stance with contoured nose and enlarged air takes with LED headlights shaped like McLaren's speed mark depicts dynamism. McLaren's signature dihedral doors swing open to give you an effortless entry into the cabin. The "Double-Skin" doors channel air into the radiator situated in the rear fender.

Starting from the front fender there is a slot at the edge of the door to clear the turbulence coming from the front wheel. The teardrop shape ends into pair of flying buttresses which link the flowing roof for an incredibly sporty look. A channel of neatly designed air ducts on the rear fenders helps to cool off the engine which is visible under the lightweight mesh. Shaped like Mclaren's speed mark slimline light blade LED taillights to emphasize the stretch of the mesh grille. Ditching the trapezoidal exhaust the 720 S features round tailpipes on either side of the McLaren logo. At last, there is a large wing that neatly integrates into the deck lid and lifts up to create downforce. The high-performance rear diffuser is definitely inspired by track cars.

The classic Ferrari has all that it needs to look like artwork and it will presumably age pleasantly, however, park it close to the McLaren 720S and it will most likely look somewhat dull. The Aventador SVJ is very aggressive but the dramatic lines in the 720 S look more elegant. The Aston Martin is another British classic but doesn't look as good as the 720 S. The most interesting thing is the 720 S is the current lightweight champion.

Safety Rating of the 2020 McLaren 720s

The Federal authorities such as NHTSA and the IIHS, have not rated or tested the 2020 Mclaren 720s for its safety measures. This is a common phenomenon that can be seen around luxury vehicles or ones that are extremely expensive. However, McLaren has a reputation and standard to abide by, this helps its audience in trusting its safety, while there are historical records to go by as well.

Safety Features of the 2020 McLaren 720s

The Mclaren 720 S Coupe comes with top-notch safety features that demonstrate the seriousness of the safety of the passengers. To drop the chances of getting into a mishap on the road, numerous security features are incorporated in the 720 including 4-wheel anti-lock braking system, stability control, and parking sensors at both rear and front.

Competition
6.0/10

2020 Ferrari 812 Superfast vs the 2020 McLaren 720s

The 2020 Ferrari 812 superfast is priced at $391,000. Significantly costlier than the Mclaren 720 s, though it does come with a 6.5L V12 engine that turns out a class-leading 788 HP. Surprisingly, the modest 4.0-liter engine of the Mclaren performs equally well in terms of acceleration when compared with the Ferrari. In terms of value for money and considering the fuel economy figures we would recommend you go ahead with the Mclaren itself as it also has a better cargo offering to its name.

2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ vs the 2020 McLaren 720s

The Mclaren 720 is a track-bred racecar with a twin-turbocharged V6 powertrain. It follows the organic design language of Mclaren inside out. The driving dynamics are better than Lamborghini and less curb weight makes it agile around corners. The car is also extremely visually appealing but it falls just behind the new age look of the 720 s. When it comes to interiors, the quality is unmatched with clutter-free spaces that allow you to focus on the driving pleasures of the vehicle. All in all, the 720 s is a much finer track tool than the Aventador but the Lambo offers a unique experience of the naturally aspirated motor that a turbo car can never offer.

2020 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera vs the 2020 McLaren 720s

The Aston Martin DBS follows a different approach, it tries to blend in the luxury of a sedan and a speed of a supercar together. it gives you a 6.0L V-12 which generates a respectable horsepower. The top speed of this luxury sports car is 205MPH. It's not as powerful as some other cars in this competition here and isn't quite as fast either but the engine is still amazing and the sound from that V12 engine is absolutely brilliant. It's not as brutal but is quite understated and subtle about its performance. The Aventador and the DBS have very different characters. So it is up to you which car fits your need, if you want raw speed then Aventador LP-750-4 SV is the car for you. If you want a fast car that feels luxurious and doesn't miss out on creature comforts then the Aston Martin DBS is the one for you.

Final Verdict

The Mclaren 720 S is a second slower than the mighty P1 and this is a supercar bargain wrapped in carbon fiber and aluminum. The power from the turbocharged engine and agility of the chassis is grin-inducing. With active aerodynamics, it sticks to the ground like no other car. With the drive experience, it offers it is completely worth the $299,000 it asks for, also do consider its decent gas mileage and safety offering.
