... rude & useless. I asked to speak to someone above the lady I'm dealing with & she said there is no one else above her. Our warranty is about to run out & when I asked if they would at least extend the warranty, I was told they can't do that. This has been the most stressful situation I have ever had with a car. I will NEVER, NEVER buy a Lincoln again. We areRead More

... could not get me a new headlight until January 11th, 2019. No headlights (that worked) were available in the United States. I am paying $752 a month on my lease and can't get my car out of the shop because there are no headlights to replace the damaged one. To make it worse, I paid for a Black Label service and it really sucked. In January, my "SPECIAL ADVOCATE" was offeringRead More

With an outlandish design yet a comfortable ride quality and ample features, the Lincoln MKX is an unheard name in the luxury SUV class. Yet it bestows an opulent aura and pleasant driving dynamics. While it lacks the premier status of its German rivals, the American vehicle builds its place with its reliability. It has a total of 11 listed complaints and 4 recalls. However, apart from the officially listed grievances, the SUV has had a tough time with its battery setup. The 2018 Lincoln MKX price starts at around $40,000 and falls in a similar ballpark as competitive options like the Acura MDX, the Lexus RX 350, and the Cadillac XT5.

2018 Lincoln MKX User Problems and Complaints

Safety Complaints

  • Improper functioning of the airbag unit: The 2018 Lincoln MKX problems have three distinct issues regarding its airbag unit. While one buyer has reported the non-deployment of the airbags in case of a crash, another buyer noted that the airbags failed to deflate after deployment, affecting his visibility and ability to control the vehicle. The final issue is concerned with the exposed wiring harness, which could be hazardous and affect the working of the electric components.

Mechanical Complaints

  • Issues with the battery: On the unofficial forums, buyers have reported the battery of the Lincoln MKX to die, unexpectedly. As a result, the vehicle becomes inoperable. While no reason is known for the failure, a replacement was warranted in two cases.
  • Service brake failure: For the recall referenced by NHTSA ID: 20V469000, buyers have reported that the front brake hoses that are required to be replaced might not be readily available with the dealership, increasing the time needed for repair.

Structural Complaints

  • Structural deficiencies: In one-off cases, buyers of the 2018 MKX have reported problems with the SUV’s build. While one buyer found water standing on the vehicle’s floor, another buyer had to send his vehicle for repair due to loose bolts in the dashboard, which caused it to shake violently.

Electric System Complaints

  • Improper functioning of the side view mirrors: In one case, a buyer has also reported the side view mirrors folding automatically, without any input from the user. While it is a stand-alone case with no recurrence, it is important for buyers to be aware of such issues.

Remedy

1.

11th Aug 2020

20V469000

Front brake hoses may rupture

The front brake hoses may rupture sooner than expected. As a result, brake fluid may leak, hampering the performance of the SUV.

Dealers will replace the front hoses with new ones made with revised braid material, free of charge.

2.

17th July 2020

20V414000

Possible airbag malfunction

In the SUV equipped with 16-way tilt functional seats, airbags deployment might be hampered due to the contact between the wire harness and seat cushion frame edge.

Dealers will install protective flocking tape onto the exposed edges and upon further inspection, repair or replace the wire harness.

3.

11th Sept 2018

18V612000

Improper door striker bolts

Due to short striker bolts, the doors might open when the vehicle is in motion. As a result, affected vehicles fail to comply with federal laws.

Dealers will replace the striker bolts, free of charge. The recall was initiated on 18th October 2018.

4.

20th Aug 2018

18V548000

Loose alternator and starter cables

The power supply cables at the alternator and starter may have been improperly secured, possibly resulting in an electric arc.

Upon inspection, dealers will properly secure the cables, if required, free of charge.

Should you buy the 2018 Lincoln MKX?

The 2018 Lincoln MKX is impressively dependent and has minimal flaws to its name. Its issues are neither concerning nor recurring. The SUV has an overall 4-star rating in the safety tests and being related to Ford, it resonates with resilience. So, while we recommend opting for the MKX, the 2018 iteration might be the last chance you have to grab your hands on it. Alternatively, if you are looking for other viable options, the 2018 Lexus RX 350 provides ample value.
