The Lincoln Continental is a car to be enjoyed from the rear seats. It is the definition of American executive luxury packaged in a four-wheel avatar. Though the sales have been modest at just 8,700 units, the Continental packs a lot of oomph to go against a segment populated by the Volvo S90, the Acura RLX, and the Cadillac CT6. The list of problems faced by the owners is rather short due to the sales but, of which we could find, the electricals have been the most troublesome. There have been rampant issues with random electrical components popping up out of the blue.

Other than that people have reported the doors opening while the car is moving. The Continental is also subject to one recall for the 2018 model year. Also, The 2018 Continental reliability rating of 84/100 is just second to only the Genesis G80 sedan. Check out the video below by "Motormouth" which shows all that is great in this Lincoln and where it falters. Also, read ahead to find out if this 2018 Continental is worth investing your hard-earned money on.

2018 Lincoln Continental Problems

Electrical issues:

  • Battery issues: The battery of the Continental is reported to give out a lot of issues and drain erratically. There have been many cases where the battery drained completely and caused a complete electrical breakdown. There have been several remedies made available to the owners by the dealerships, including a trickle charger.
  • Random electrical issues: Continental owners have reported randomly occurring electrical issues as well. Some people complain of the instrument cluster/infotainment system rebooting itself. The interior lighting may dim/malfunction. The issues continue to the exterior lighting as well. Many incidents list down a complete shut down of the headlights, affecting visibility.

Mechanical issues:

  • Steering issues: People have reported the steering of the Lincoln Continental to fail. This failure causes the car to steer to one side without a possible recovery. The repercussion is that some people have reported collisions and crashes due to the same issue.
  • Transmission issues: A handful of people have reported the sedan jerking at low speeds. The people claim that the gearbox slips into neutral and doesn’t shift to drive afterwards. To get it moving, the car had to be restarted after some time.

Latches/Locks/Linkages

Improper functioning of the door latch pawl motors may not fully latch the door. This might open the door while moving and increase the risk of an injury.

The recall began on October 14, 2019. The dealers will replace the latch assemblies on all four doors.

Should you buy the 2018 Lincoln Continental?

The 2018 Lincoln Continental is a super spacious car and fits the bill for a corporate getaway. The only issue, and a rather major one, is the bevy of electrical issues the car is facing. The dealerships are bent on a trial-error approach which consumes the customers’ time and has low success rates. The manufacturer has been notified of the issues but they seem to turn a deaf ear towards these. Such an approach portrays a negative image to the buyers. Seeing the lax attitude, recommending the Continental is not justified in our books.
