Overview

The 2017 Range Rover Evoque, the baby SUV of the range has been a runaway hit since the very beginning. It defies the conventional SUV design and goes on to show that if you pack style, luxury, and comfort in a small lucrative package, it is going to work like it was meant to succeed.

The Evoque is truly British at heart and features a host of creature comforts while still maintaining its sporty character with a powerful engine under the bonnet. The baby range rover has been all the rage in the States and aims to build further with its latest iteration. It goes up against the 2017 Merc GLA 250, the 2017 BMW X1, and the 2017 Lexus NX 200t.

The mid table HSE trim which carries a price tag of just over $50k is certainly the best value for money proposition. It includes a host of active safety features as well as a bunch of feel good elements that are probably all you would ever need from your Evoque.

9.0/10

"Land Rover packed the Range Rover Evoque with a host of high-tech driver aids." - Motortrend

The safety rating authorities such as NHTSA and the IIHS have not rated the 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. On closer observation, you would learn that this is a practice of theirs. They usually do not run their safety tests on premium vehicles, majorly because these are extremely expensive to get their hands on. 2017 Lexus NX200t vs 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque

The 2017 Lexus NX 200t, which is a premium crossover from Toyota's luxury brand Lexus, we find that there is an extreme luxury in it when compared to the Range Rover Evoque. In terms of performance, it is the Range Rover Evoque that is slightly better. However, the Lexus comes back with better brake performance. But, when you go to consider the interiors section it is the Evoque that is any day better.

2017 BMW X1 vs 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque

In comparison with the BMW X1, it is the Range Rover Evoque that is priced higher by a significant margin. It also delivers a little above 10 HP more. However, in terms of acceleration and brake performance, the BMW does put up extremely competitive figures on the chart. The Beemer is slightly better in terms of fuel efficiency and it also offers a slightly larger interior room, for passengers and cargo. Overall it is the BMW that is better.

2017 Mercedes Benz GLA 250 vs 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque

Another compact crossover in competition is the Mercedes Benz GLA 250, priced almost 10 grand cheaper than the Range Rover Evoque, it has only 208 HP to offer. With a lower power to offer the Merc is obviously slow in terms of acceleration and also lags behind in terms of braking power. With its smaller engine, it does deliver phenomenal fuel efficiency. One could actually consider this car if they have a slightly lower budget and yet want the same juice and comfort.

Final Verdict

The 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque comprises a range that goes from $41,800-$62,500. Offering five trims, it features a 2.0L-liter 4 cylinder engine that generates 240 HP and 250 lb-ft of torque. For a compact SUV, it does have average stats to offer and covers every aspect, adding its royal touch.

              Love it

Pros - Very comfortable, good visibility, great on rough roads, great in bad weather including snow; loads of good spec

Cons - Elec doors a bit eccentric when opening with key in pocket

Love it. But expensive to run - servicing and insurance costs high
