Overview

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is a midsize-luxury SUV from Land Rover that comes with a distinct design language that makes it look bold as well as sporty. The Evoque comes with some significant updates for 2015 while the overall package remains the same. For 2015 the already available proprietary self-parking system of the Evoque now comes with perpendicular parking. Also, a rear-cross-path alert has been added to the existing Blind-Spot monitoring system.

Buying Advice

The Pure Premium trim would be the best option to choose in the Range Rover Evoque lineup. It comes with an improved and updated feature set over the base trims. That makes it the ideal choice, for this reason. The Prestige trim can also be chosen for much more luxury, but it is significantly more expensive than the Pure Premium.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque comes with a 2.0 L turbocharged Inline-4 engine mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The Evoque comes in five main trim levels and AWD is standard in all models. The Evoque is offered in four-door and 2-door versions. Pricing starts at $41,100 for the base trim while the highest-end model costs more than $60k. The 2015 Land Rover Evoque competes with the BMW X3, Audi Q5, and Volvo XC60

Features
9.0/10

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is offered in five main trim levels which are named Pure, Pure Plus, Pure Premium, Prestige, and Dynamic. There are also two special editions on offer, which are the top-of-the-line Autobiography and Autobiography Dynamic models. The Evoque is offered in a 4-door configuration in all five trim levels while the 2-door version is offered in Pure Plus, Pure Premium, and Dynamic trims.

All models come in an AWD configuration as standard and all trims come with the same 2.0 L Inline-4 engine under the hood. The Autobiography Dynamic model, however, is tuned to put out more power from the same engine and also comes with a sport-tuned suspension and transmission along with larger front brakes. Unlike this one, the Autobiography edition has just some cosmetic upgrades over the Dynamic trim.

We Recommend

The Pure Premium trim would be the best option to choose in the Range Rover Evoque lineup. It comes with an improved and updated feature set over the base trims. That makes it the ideal choice, for this reason. The Prestige trim can also be chosen for much more luxury, but it is significantly more expensive than the Pure Premium.

Engine and Performance
7.0/10

The 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque comes as standard with a 2.0 L turbocharged Inline-4 engine under the hoods of all the trims outputting 240 hp and 250 lb-ft of maximum power and torque. The transmission mated to this engine is a 9-speed automatic powering all four wheels as AWD is standard in all models of the Evoque. The Autobiography Dynamic special edition model, however, is tuned to produce more power and it puts out 285 hp and 295 lb-ft.

The Evoque is an agile machine even though not the most aggressive or smoothest. The standard engine is powerful enough and helps the Evoque reach 60mph in 7.4 seconds and cross the quarter-mile mark in 15.8 seconds. These figures are not super-impressive or extremely sporty, but they are pretty respectable. Overall, the Evoque performs well in the powertrain and performance department.

The Volvo XC60 is the best performer in terms of engine capacity and raw power output. It comes with a larger, stronger 3.6 L Inline-6 engine while all others have 4-pots under their hoods. The XC60 is obviously the fastest followed by the BMW X3. The BMW X3 however is the sportiest offering in the segment with razor-sharp and the most engaging driving experience.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

The 2015 Range Rover offers really good fuel efficiency. It provides a fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city, 30 on the highway, and a combined efficiency of 24mpg. These efficiency figures are among the best in the segment. Combined with a large 18.5-gallon fuel capacity, the Evoque can travel up to 444 miles in combined driving and road conditions.

The most powerful and fastest Volvo XC60 is the least efficient and the other ones with 4-cylinders under the hood deliver much more efficiency. The Evoque and the X3 are the most efficient among these while the Audi A3 follows closely. This makes the BMW X3 an even better choice as it is, fast, engaging, and fuel-efficient.

Interior
8.0/10

The interior of the 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has a super high-quality interior. It is one of the most updated and modern-looking ones with a futuristic approach to the dashboard design. The interior features a Satin Brushed Aluminium trim finish in the lower rims whereas the Dynamic trim features a Textured Aluminium finish. The Evoque features the best-looking infotainment touchscreen in the center console which is the absolute best in the segment.

The 2015 Evoque has a spacious first row, while the second row is not as spacious as the segment standards. The sloping roofline does scoop into the rear row headroom which much is an issue for taller adults seated in the back. Seats in the Evoque are comfortable and supportive and the leather could be customized in a plethora of shades according to the trim and individual choice. The Evoque also lacks cargo capacity, as for the price paid, there are much larger and roomier options on offer.

All of the crossovers compared here come with luxurious and premium interiors. The Audi Q5 is the most spacious while the Evoque has the best-looking interior. The BMW however, features the most luxurious interior with a touch of luxury that is present everywhere. The Evoque as mentioned earlier lacks seconds row space as well as cargo capacity compared to the rivals. The following are some of its prominent interior features-

  • Climate front and heated rear seats
  • Ten-way / eight-way electric memory – Driver: fore/aft, recline, height, tilt, two-way lumbar support, memory Passenger: fore/aft, recline, height, two-way lumbar support
  • Lots of trim and upholstery options
  • Perforated Oxford leather steering wheel
  • Leather-covered seats
  • Climate Front Seats
  • Rear Heated Seats
  • Sliding Center Armrest
  • Interior Mood Lighting

How intuitive is the 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque’s infotainment unit

The Evoque comes with a beautiful-looking 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit in the center console which looks and feels futuristic and updated. The touchscreen interface is intuitive and easy to use but it could have been a little faster as it happens to respond slower than many of the competition.

As for the sound system, the lower trims feature an 11 speaker sound system including a subwoofer from Meridien outputting 380W whereas the higher trims come with an upgraded 825W sound unit consisting of 17 speakers from the same brand. The following are the standout infotainment features-

  • 8-inch high-resolution Touch-screen
  • Meridian Surround Sound System (825W) with radio and single-slot CD player, MP3 disc and file compatibility, with 17 speakers including a subwoofer
  • HDD Premium Navigation System, TMC Dynamic Route Guidance, and ’Say What You See‘ intuitive voice control (SWYS)
  • Single USB socket
  • Bluetooth phone connection with streamed audio Audio connectivity system

Exterior
9.0/10

The 2015 Range Rover Evoque has a boxy but extremely stylish design that stands out from the rest of the models in the segment. The Evoque has a distinctive aerodynamic and sleek look to it that enhances its whole visual aesthetics. It looks much more sporty and sleeker than other models in the Range Rover lineup or even in the whole Land Rover fleet. It comes with a new design approach in which the land rover has truly succeeded.

The Range Rover Evoque is offered in 14 color options and seven wheel options to choose from. The base Pure trim comes equipped with 18-inch five-split spoke alloy wheels which get upgraded to 19-inch six-spoke wheels in the Pure Plus and Pure Premium trims. The Prestige and Dynamic trims get larger 20-inch wheels of different styles and the same is the case with the Autobiography models.

All of the models are beautiful when looked at from the outside. None of them are ugly by any means. However, the Range Rover Evoque looks the most futuristic and new. The X5 is the most aggressive and sporty-looking one for sure, but in my eyes, the Evoque is the winner. The Evoque however, is the smallest in all dimensions, and based on size, the Evoque competes with a segment lower, but its price puts it here. The Volvo is the largest and heaviest and also has the most ground clearance. The following are some of the most important exterior features of the 2015 Evoque-

  • High Gloss Black waist finisher
  • Fixed panoramic roof including power blind
  • Solar Attenuating windshield
  • Power adjustable, heated power fold exterior mirrors with puddle lamps
  • Adaptive Xenon headlamps with LED signature, Automatic Headlamp Levelling, and Cornering Lights
  • 20 inch five split-spoke alloy wheels

Safety
8.0/10

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is definitely a safe vehicle. It has not been crash-tested or rated by NHTSA or IIHS, so these scores are not available for analysis yet. The newest addition to the safety feature set includes Rear-Cross-Traffic-Alert to the already available Blind-Spot-Monitoring system. The following are some of the prominent safety features in the 2015 range Rover Evoque-

  • Blind Spot Monitor with Closing Vehicle Sensing
  • Active Driveline
  • Adaptive Cruise Control*
  • Advanced Parallel Park Assist with Park Exit
  • Surround Camera System*

Final Verdict

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is a great option in the segment. It offers a strong engine and superb fuel economy. It also features a luxurious interior and a lot of scope for customization. However, its price makes it compete against much more powerful and spacious rivals from other premium brands. For the price, the BMW X3 would be a superb choice as it offers more space, a more engaging driving experience, and an equally good interior and fuel economy.
