... Wrangler Sahara Unlimited in January 2020. Since then, it's been in the shop three times with some sort of serpentine issue. Each time, the dealer (tried two) has had the car in the shop for a week at a time and each time replaced the tensioner and given it back with the same issue (sometimes slightly improved and sometimes worse). The techs hear the issue but can't resolve it. It is currently at the dealer again trying to figure out what is wrong.Read More

Apart from being just a rugged vehicle, the Wrangler’s history of being an emblem of the military is one of the primary reasons behind the vehicle’s popularity as a compact SUV from Jeep even today. Available with a starting market price of $29,995, the vehicle has been a splendid choice for SUV lovers due to its sturdy get-up, heavy-duty performance, and reliability to roll over rough terrains and off-road. Low maintenance cost is one of the major factors behind preferring Wrangler over other cars.

The popularity of Wrangler reached an extent where it helped the brand to draw a sales figure of 201,310 in 2020. However, it will be a mistake to consider that the Wrangler’s market competition has been curbed down to zero. That’s because, there are strong rivals of Wrangler when it comes to reliability, price, performance, etc. comprising of the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, and the Toyota 4Runner.

The fairly economical market price tag of the Wrangler might be a reason for buyers to prefer the vehicle over its closest rivals, but the report of issuing 7 recalls and 231 complaints in the respective year, raised serious doubts and questions about the SUV's market popularity.

Mechanical Problems

  • Issue with the steering control

Wrangler owners have found issues with the steering control that often shakes vehemently leading to the power loss while driving the vehicle. Owners have noticed a loss of power in the steering even when the vehicle is at minimum speed, say e.g. 55-60 miles per hour. The reason behind such a problem can be either due to the inability of the steering wheel to maneuver the vehicle while it is moving. Such instances might trigger unwanted accidents by moving the steering wheel in the wrong direction increasing the chances of injury while driving the vehicle. Similar instances may lead to other maneuvering problems when the vehicle is at high speed. Issues like these demand the attention of the dealers who should be replacing these issues soon.

  • Fuel line injection issues

High-pressure fuel pump may not function properly in Wrangler jeeps due to faulty fuel line injection. Such issues are a common scenario in jeeps. Usually, these issues show up when the faulty fuel pipes fail to inflow required amount of fuel to the engine, causing the engine to stall down finally. The manufacturers should address these problems sincerely and find a resolve for these issues soon.

Safety Problems

  • Faulty steel tube connectivity leading to fatal accidents

It's quite obvious for the Wranglers to meet death wobble when the axle or the steel tube that’s linked with both the front tires trembles and increases the risk of death wobble, in case either of the tires skits anyhow. Such instances may have grave consequences and can bring human lives into jeopardy. The manufacturers should inspect this issue and if needed should probably go for declaring a recall for fixing the issues soon.

Structural Problems

  • Issue with the faulty body

In spite of the sturdy construction of the Wrangler’s body which itself is considered as an example while comparing with other vehicles, multiple owners have found that the vehicle’s compromising exterior leads to loss of driving control when the wind is 15-20 mph, which should merely bother a sturdy heavy-duty vehicle like Wrangler. Even though, when such complaints are noted, it somehow queries the constructional quality and the build of the vehicle which requires attention immediately. It is important for the manufacturers to find the reason behind such faulty get-up and if possible should get rid of the design and reframe a sturdy one.

Should You Buy a 2020 Jeep Wrangler?

The 2020 Jeep Wrangler is a solid choice for multiple heavy-duty purposes. However, the vehicle’s paramount reliability and its performance to roll over risky terrains, rocky off-road, etc. help the owners to rely on the car. Though the reliability of the car came under question when some owners found issues with the car’s transmission system, loss of steering control while driving at different speed levels, and faulty welding leading to the separation of the lower control arm from the axle.

It took less time for Jeep to inspect those issues and finally repair and replace those so that interested buyers can purchase a used Wrangler at an affordable resale value. If someone is willing to purchase a used Wrangler, we would suggest them to examine the vehicle’s present condition first. If the buyer is assured that the car is free from every challenge it met earlier, we would ask them to initiate a buying decision without giving any second thought.
