Bought it 12/2017. Since then have put 39k miles and had it service 3x for engine issues. This month the engine locked up. Now fighting Infiniti to cover the cost of replacement engine even though it was under warranty & we have proof of oil changes. Wish we had bought the MDX or X5. Read More

The Infiniti QX60 is affordable yet the SUV feels luxurious. The QX60 offers a powerful 3.5 L V6 engine with a CVT. The cabin is spacious and comfortable and can easily fit up to 6 people. Infiniti improved its SUV by making the third-row seat more easily accessible. The seats are plushy and comfortable for long rides and travels. The midsize SUV, officially, has 2 recalls and 37 complaints about it. Common issues seem to occur with the engine and the brakes failing. Competitors for the 2017 QX60 are the Acura MDX, the Lincoln MKX, and the Lexus RX 350. But does the SUV make it in terms of safety and what are the complaints that the QX60 received? Let’s find out.

2017 Infiniti QX60 User Problems and complaints.

Mechanical problems

  • Engine failure: Quite a few users had issues with the engine not starting, the engine hesitating to move after the acceleration has been depressed while at a stop, and the engine shutting down while moving. A user noticed excess smog coming from the exhaust and when it was taken to a dealership, the user was told to replace the engine, the manufacturer was not informed of the failure. Another user had to replace the engine because it suddenly stopped and failed to start after.
  • Steering issue: A user noticed the steering wheel had become hard to turn due to the SUV's engine becoming hot causing the steering to become stiff. Another user stated due to hydroplaning, the vehicle shut off causing the steering and brakes to lock, which led to an accident. It is unclear whether the manufacturer was notified or not.
  • Powertrain issue: A user claims that the transmission is broken or bad. When accelerating, the complainant reported that the SUV would turn left and right, jerk, and shake. Also, multiple users noticed that the SUV would accelerate automatically without any physical contact.
  • Service brake failure: Common problem was with the brakes not working when depressed and a user noticed the brake fluids leaking which would cause a fire but it did not.

Electrical problems

  • Electrical system issue: A user had an electrical issue where the liftgate stops going up and down randomly. The dealership advised changing the key fob battery but did not solve the problem. A user noticed the SUV horn going off and not stopping and the second time there was visible smog coming from the horn, the problem is not fixed, and they are waiting to do so.
  • Exterior lighting issue: A user has a problem with the headlights not projecting far enough in the front of the SUV.

Safety problems

  • Seat problem: Upon impact with another vehicle, the SUV’s seat collapsed backward, which was not supposed to happen. Unfortunately, it happened to a user.
  • Seat Belt issue: A user noticed the seat belt started to tear and one of them was torn completely. Another user had an accident and the seat belt pretensioners failed to engage.

Should you buy the 2017 Infiniti QX60

Yes. So far, the 2017 Infiniti QX60 has no major safety issues or concerns that might consider not buying the SUV. The SUV had only 2 recalls, which were regarding the brake fluid leak, and

37 complaints, which is far better than most SUVs that have received more than double of the QX60. The SUV scores 5 stars in terms of overall safety rating, which is good to know. Besides, the SUV is smooth on the road, has one of the most comfortable seats, and has that luxurious feel to it. The SUV never really comes short in any department and even the cargo space is average. Now, if you find recalls of the QX60 2017 for brake fluid leaks concerning, or you do not find that the SUV meets the requirements that you look for in an SUV, then the 2017 Acura MDX is a great option.
