Overview

The 2017 Infiniti Q50 sedan is a midsize luxury car that is feature-loaded and good-looking. Offered in a total of 3 trims and 2 powertrain options it comes at an MSRP range of $33,950-$40,700. The standard engine offering is a 2-liter 4 cylinder engine that churns out 208 HP and 258 feet of torque. The Sport trim comes equipped with a turbocharged V6 engine that delivers 300 HP.

With an average fuel economy to its name, the Infiniti Q50 records the best acceleration performance in class. It gives its competition a tough time even though its rivals such as the 2017 Volvo S60, the Mercedes C300, and the BMW 320i fight back strongly.

Buying Advice

The 3.0t trim makes the most sense to us. The power boost on the larger engined variants does improve the driving experience a lot. The list of features is strong enough to justify the already modest price tag. Although choosing between the sport or premium variants will have to be based on the buyer's particular requirements.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2017 Infiniti Q50 is a capable and value-for-money offering that is clearly underrated. It comes equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that churns out 208 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. This gives it the ability to go from 0-60 MPH in 5.7 seconds. However, the Q50 fails to deliver in terms of gas mileage. It delivers a mere 24 miles to a gallon as its combined reading.

The interiors of the 2017 Infiniti Q50 are comforting for sure, accommodating five individuals. However, it has a scar on its reputation for its lagging infotainment system. Despite offering a dual-screen that together measures 15-inches, it is the system that portrays significant lag and inconvenience. The exteriors are well-done too and the Q50 gives a tough time to its competition for its price of $35,950 and onwards.

6.0/10

"The 2.0t model returns up to 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway." - Cars.USnews

In the aspect of fuel efficiency, which has nowadays become an important decision-making factor, the 2017 Infiniti Q50 fails to deliver. It offers only a modest 22 miles in the city, 28 miles on the highway, and a combined reading of 24 miles to a gallon.

Against its rivals, the 2017 BMW 320 I comes closest to the infinity offering 23 miles in the City, and 28 miles to a gallon as its combined reading. 2017 Mercedes offers the next best gas mileage. The best in class gas mileage is offered by the 2017 Volvo S60, it records 36 miles for the highway, 25 miles for the city, and a combined reading of 29 miles to a gallon.

Infotainment of the 2017 Infiniti Q50

Equipped with a dual-screen infotainment system, an 8-inch screen, and a 7-inch screen. it offers just about the basics in terms of infotainment, in fact, the system feels a bit outdated. This is made worse with a late response time for the screens. However, the system seems organized but it isn't as easy to operate, it will take you some time to adjust to the fitted system.

2017 Infiniti Q50 Sedan vs 2017 Volvo S60

The 2017 Volvo S60 comes equipped with 240 hp that is thrust out of its 2.0L engine. It comes at a price of $33,950, one of the most affordable in class. It is known for its safety and comfort, while it also delivers in terms of acceleration while offering the best in class gas mileage. Overall it is a wonderful package at the most affordable price, and we would surely recommend it.

2017 Infiniti Q50 Sedan vs 2017 Mercedes C300

The Mercedes C300 is priced at $39,500 and delivers the most power in class, 241 hp. However, it only has an average performance in terms of acceleration. With a decent fuel efficiency to offer, on one hand, it lets us down on the other hand with its interior space. It also has one of the least cargo rooms in comparison. The Infiniti Q50 would be our choice any day over the Merc.

2017 Infiniti Q50 Sedan vs 2017 BMW 320i

The 2017 BMW 320i is a well-designed vehicle that fails to deliver enough power. It maxes out at 180 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque. This no doubt translates to sluggish acceleration timings. It is astonishing that it doesn't even deliver in terms of fuel efficiency. For its price point of $33,450, the offering isn't worth it. We would suggest you look at the other available options, if not the Infiniti Q50 itself.

Final Verdict

If you are looking for a car that can accelerate and has a decent power offering, along with having a comforting interior, then the 2017 Infiniti Q50 makes a good option. Priced at an MSRP range of $33,950, all the way up to $40,700, the Q50 offers value-for-money, and it is worth every penny. However, one must keep in mind that the infotainment system and fuel efficiency of the Infiniti Q50 is on the lower end. It does have a decent safety and reliability rating nonetheless.
