The 2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab offers five trims: Elevation, AT4, Denali, AT4x, and the AT4x Edition 1. However, trims other than the Elevation are reviewed separately. The base price starts at an MSRP of $41,000 for the Elevation variant and can go up to about an MSRP of $64,000 for the AT4x Edition 1 trim. The Elevation comes with an abundance of features such as a premium sound system, smart device integration, steering wheel audio controls, adaptive cruise control, climate control, keyless start, and remote engine start. It also comes with a number of safety features like automatic high beams, lane keeping assist, forward collision warning with automatic braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection, and lane departure warning.

The 2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab has a number of configurations to offer. One can come with a number of additional packages such as the Canyon Safety Plus Package which adds Rear Park Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, and Blind Zone Steering Assist. The Convenience Package adds features like Driver and front passenger sliding visor with illuminated vanity mirrors, rear window electric defogger, LED front fog lamp, Dual zone automatic climate control, etc. Other packages include Elevation Premium Package, Skid Plate Package, and Sports Bar Package.

The Elevation trim is an impressive option in the GMC Canyon lineup. It comes with all the essential features needed in a Crew Cab. The optional Convenience Package can be added to further enhance the overall driving experience. However, if one wishes to opt for an off-roading champion, then the AT4 variant is the one to go for.

Release Date

The 2023 GMC Canyon is expected to be out by early 2023. 

The 2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab will come with a 2.7L Inline 4 powertrain, just like the Cadillac V sedan, and makes 310 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft of torque in all the trims of the lineup. The pickup truck comes with a standard 8 speed automatic transmission. The Elevation comes with a standard 2WD with 4WD being optional, while all the other variants come with a standard 4WD. The 2023 Canyon boasts a maximum towing capacity of about 7,700 lbs on the Elevation, AT4, and Denali models. Furthermore, the peak payload capacity in the Elevation with 2WD is 1,640 lbs. 

The 2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab offers a better power delivery as compared to the Toyota Tacoma Double Cab, the Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab, and the Ford Ranger SuperCrew. It also leads all of its rivals in terms of torque delivery. The data for the 0-60 MPH is yet to be determined. Amongst the four rivals, the Ranger SuperCrew is the quickest of all, followed by the Chevy Colorado Crew cab, and the Tacoma Double Cab. The top speed of the Canyon Crew Cab is 130 MPH which is at par with the other pickup trucks.

2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab Ride and Handling

With its new off-road focus and premium feel, GMC engineers believe this works better with the Canyon, which is supposed to have a higher level of performance. All trims, except the base Elevation, come standard with four-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission which further enhances the drive control. Each Canyon trim level comes with an off-road suspension that has been widened and lifted two inches over last year's model, resulting in a total ground clearance of at least 9.6 inches. Moreover, all Canyon trims except the off-roader AT4X variant come with side steps on the rear bumper that make accessing the truck's bed easier. The bed's high walls are a result of the truck's added lift.

2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab Braking Performance

The size of the brake rotors is yet to be determined for the 2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab. We expect that the brand will upgrade the brake rotors from its previous edition which had 12.75 inches front and rear brake rotors. The brake pads last about 30,000-50,000 miles depending on the nature of the driving. The pickup truck also features an Anti-lock braking system which lets the driver have control while abrupt braking. The stopping distance data for the Crew Cab is not yet available.

With a high chance of improving the brake rotors size, the 2023 GMC Canyon is expected to do well in terms of its stopping distance too. Amongst the rivals, Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab and Ford Ranger SuperCrew come with the biggest front brake rotors, followed by the Toyota Tacoma Double Cab. At the rear, the Chevy Colorado has bigger brake rotors than the Ranger SuperCrew and the Tacoma Double Cab. The Canyon is the heaviest of all the rivals.

There are no gas mileage figures for the new 2.7L inline 4 in the midsize truck body, as with the Chevrolet equivalent. The same motor is in the Sierra 1500 which gets 19 MPG in a city, 22 MPG on a highway, and 20 MPG combined. With the Canyon's lighter weight, these numbers will certainly be better. The car has an enormous 21.4-gallon tank. If compared to the figures of the Sierra 1500, then the Canyon can travel up to 406.6 miles in a city and 470.8 miles on a highway. 

The official fuel economy data is yet to come out for the GMC Canyon Crew Cab. However, if we consider the trucks with the same engine, then the Canyon is expected to be as efficient as the Chevy Colorado. The Toyota Tacoma Double Cab and Ford Ranger lead in this aspect. The 2023 Canyon Crew Cab comes with the largest fuel tank capacity as compared to its rivals. This is also reflected in the overall range of travel, on which it will be covering more distance than the Ranger for sure.

A Canyon's interior design reflects the level of trim it belongs to, with colors and materials reflecting its standing in the market. Due to the only available crew cab configuration, the GMC Canyon seats five across two rows in the interior, which is a vastly improved place as compared to the previous model to spend time. It appears that the interior dimensions have not improved although the exterior dimensions have increased. It has 40.3 inches of headroom in the front and 38.3 inches in the back, as well as 45.2 and 34.7 inches of legroom respectively.

The 2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab comes with more front legroom as compared to the Toyota Tacoma Double Cab, the Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab, and the Ford Ranger SuperCrew. At the rear, the legroom of the 2023 Canyon is more than the Tacoma and the Ranger. Moreover, both the Canyon and Colorado have a 6-foot box, which is the largest of all rivals, and the Ford Ranger has a more balanced cabin with 43.3 cubic feet of the best cargo space.

The 2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab comes with an 11.3-inch touchscreen display infotainment system. The Elevation trim gets an 8 inch digital instrument cluster, the same as the Canyon AT4. The head-up display is also available as an option. The Crew Cab comes with essential connectivity features such as Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple Carplay. The system also gets Alexa integration to facilitate driving. The display further provides ten camera views. The 2023 Canyon Crew Cab can be incorporated with a total of 7 speaker sound systems powered by Bose.

The 2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab is the heaviest of all, be it in any configuration. The Canyon is longer as compared to the Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado, and Ford Ranger. It is also the tallest of all the rivals. Furthermore, the Canyon has the largest wheelbase, followed by the Colorado Crew Cab, Tacoma Crew Cab, and the Ranger SuperCrew. All the trucks boast their robust exterior look, but we prefer the authoritative front face of the GMC and the Ford.

The external composite frame of the GMC Canyon which is made up of steel and aluminum is tough and protects the structural integrity of the pickup truck. The 2022 GMC Canyon was disappointing with only limited safety features. The base features included just a rearview camera and essentials like 6 airbags, electronic traction control, electronic stability control, a teen-driver feature, and tire-pressure monitoring. The brand is expected to enhance its safety suite this year. The Elevation variant might receive the safety upgrades that the upper trims used to feature, such as rear parking sensors and an HD rearview camera. The 2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab is yet to be crash tested by the NHTSA and the IIHS.

The 2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab comes with a more expensive price tag as compared to the Toyota Tacoma Double Cab. The Canyon comes with a more powerful engine. It also leads in terms of torque delivery. It has a better front headroom and front legroom than the Tacoma Double Cab. On the other hand, the Tacoma comes with a better front shoulder room and rear shoulder room. Furthermore, the interior of the Canyon looks a bit more appealing than the Tacoma.

2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab vs 2022 Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab

The 2022 Chevrolet Colorado is a sister pickup truck of the Canyon. It comes with better rear legroom as compared to the 2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab. On the other hand, the 2023 Canyon is more expensive and more buffed up, thanks to its recent exterior upgrades. It also features a more powerful engine and leads the rival in terms of torque delivery as well. Moreover, it also offers more front legroom than the Colorado Crew Cab. In our opinion, both the cabs have an attractive exterior, but the Canyon has an edge in the interior.

2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab vs 2022 Ford Ranger SuperCrew

The 2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab has a better power output and torque delivery as compared to the Ford Ranger SuperCrew. It also offers more front legroom than its rival. The Canyon dominates the Ranger in terms of exterior dimensions as well. Whereas, the Ford Ranger comes with impressive ride and handling capabilities. The Ranger is an epitome of a perfect off roader. It also features a better rear shoulder room.

The 2023 GMC Canyon Crew Cab is a functional crew cab with an abundance of convenience features to offer. The large infotainment screen with the Bose audio system leaves no stone unturned in an aspect of entertainment. The muscular looking robust exterior ensures safety with rigid aluminum and steel parts. The powerful engine delivers impressive performance to the users. However, the Canyon crew Cab provides decent ride and handling capabilities. The fuel economy of the crew cab is expected to be comparable with other pickup trucks in this segment. The Elevation trim is a preferable option because of its price worthy feature list. However, the AT4 variant is a better off roader.
