Nice looking. Driving the Chrysler 200 2016 is a problem for me when I have a passenger in the car. I just cannot see traffic coming from the passenger side. When at a four way intersection the whole passenger side becomesRead More

... it was closer). It said it was the catalytic converter. I took it to the dealer the next day, it read the same thing. I returned a week later to have it repaired (mind you, it was determined that it was still under warranty)..Wouldn't you know, it didn't read catalytic converter, it read a misfire so they didn't replace the catalytic converter.Read More

As for now, the Chrysler line-up is limited to very few cars. The 2016 Chrysler 200 is one of the more luxurious midsize sedans available. Its reputation has not entirely been great and we see that there are 295 complaints along with 2 recalls this year alone. But most of these because being catastrophic engine failures and with most people not being able to drive their cars because of the stalling issue, many people are doubtful whether they should go for it. With prices starting at an MSRP of $22,170, it is pitched against the Hyundai Sonata, the Honda Accord, and the Toyota Camry. Let us find out more about Chrysler 200 problems through this article.

2016 Chrysler 200 User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical problems:

  • The starting system of this car also hesitates and produces many issues in the process. To the point where owners have to accept that a Chrysler 200 not starting up is an everyday occurrence.
  • Power steering failures are common in this car. In many cases, it is restricted to a warning message but several owners have faced a complete lack of power steering assistance. The steering angle sensor is also known to be faulty.
  • The brake also produces loud screeching noises that are unnatural and result in a lot of wear and tear. Brake booster issues are also common and this will mean that the brakes do not respond to driver inputs at all.
  • Many cars have reported the problem of excessive oil consumption. Oil leaks are also very common and all cooler problems have affected many people as well.
  • Some owners have reported that the car has to be warmed up or else it will stall. This means that there is about a 20-minute delay before they can set off from their houses.
  • Some owners have also listed problems regarding the braking system. Sometimes the brakes are too hard to press and did not respond correctly.
  • The car is excessively jerky and stalls at times. This can result in the replacement of engine and transmission mounts or something more serious like a complete engine failure. Some issues are also due to a bad throttle control module. Either way, a Chrysler 200 engine recall is the need of the hour.

Electrical system problems:

  • Many owners have reported falls with the HVAC, radio, backup camera, and Bluetooth functions failing to operate as needed. The backup camera would also have issues and the airbag warning light was eliminated.
  • Multiple owners have experienced issues in which the car's electrical system completely shuts down. The gear shift is also prone to malfunction. 2016 Chrysler 200 electrical problems are quite common.
  • Several cars have gone up in flames after noticing smoke from the hood. This is assumed to be an electrical fault.
  • Many cars have also registered the issue of not recognizing the key fob. This means that the car has to be unlocked manually.
  • In a lot of cases, the engine starts overheating and owners assume it is a mechanical issue. However, the problem is with the active grille shutter failing.
  • The transmission system is a known area for malfunctions as it can switch back to neutral when trying to shift to Park. Chrysler 200 gear shift problems are quite common.
  • The AC blower motor is another known area of failure and shuts off in many cars.
  • A few complaints about the headlight failing to illuminate have been recorded.
  • The electronic stability control is prone to failure and could be quite dangerous because it can mean the car goes out of control.
  • The electronic parking brake can also activate without warning and is especially dangerous while the car is in motion.

Interior problems:

  • One user has reported that the sunroof seemed to spontaneously shatter inside the car. The tempered glass broke without any warning and this caused a reason to panic.

Exterior problems:

  • One contact has reported an incident but the doors could not be closed. This is due to the front doors touching the rear doors and is a quality control issue.
  • The rims of the car have several faults like lug bolts loosening themselves and causing damage to the rim and other catastrophic failures.

Safety problems

  • The problem of airbag service warning lights coming on is quite a common one. The wiring harness for the airbag and as well as a module seem to be faulty. Sometimes an audible alert is also heard.
  • Multiple contacts have also said that the airbag did not deploy in the event of a collision.
  • The seatbelt indicator has also produced a lot of problems for owners. It does not detect the presence of passengers correctly.

Should you buy the 2016 Chrysler 200?

The Chrysler 200 seems to be one of the best picks of the segment when you look at equipment levels and build quality but suffers from a lot of reliability issues. With many issues being quite widespread, this car’s good looks and awesome infotainment system cannot save it. With these many people losing full control of their cars and fearing breakdowns on the roadside, we do not want to add more people to the list. We would choose the 2016 Honda Accord any day.
