Overview

Pickup trucks in America have come a long way since their inception. Americans love their pickups because of their all-purpose nature and practicality. Many famous brands like Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, etc. have always tried to leave a mark with their offerings.

With the introduction of the latest generation of the Silverado, GM has given its answer to its competitors out there. The new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LD has been redesigned from scratch with an all-new platform and the availability in 8 trims with six powertrain options to choose from. The latest iteration of this iconic truck offers a vast area of choice for cab, engine, trim level and features. The base trim comes with a 4.3L V6 engine and also offers an option to choose from a more powerful 2.7L Turbo engine, which makes the buyer shell out an extra $5000.

Buying Advice

To get a bang for your buck, we recommend the LT variant as it offers a powerful engine along with a great infotainment system and some additional exterior features which make this truck look striking and aggressive.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Pickups have always been a favorite of American people. Whether it’s the masculine personality or practicality, Americans have always been in awe of these trucks. Like their attitude, these trucks can take on anything. The latest offering by Chevy is a complete redesign from its predecessor and is built from the ground up on a new platform. This truck has served the Americans for over 2 decades and has been a favorite among many truckers and enthusiasts.

With the latest Silverado in the market, Chevy is offering a lot of flexibility in the configurations from cab layouts to bed size and engine & transmission. In spite of that, the Silverado is not the only truck that has received a major upgrade. There are rivals like the Ford F-150 that have stayed at a constant pace of updates to keep up its position as the best-selling pickup in America, whereas the Ram 1500 has received an overhaul similar to the Silverado. Then we have the Toyota Tacoma, a truck that refuses to separate from the classic utilitarian roots. With such a diverse range of competition, it could be really interesting how the Silverado 1500 LD holds out.

Features
7.3/10

Like the regular Silverado, the 1500 LD has its options for the drivetrain, but it gets away from the tedious collection of trims and limits to just three. The Work Truck is the least expensive and comes with a 7-inch infotainment display. However, it is also the one with the weakest pulling power. The Custom upgrades on it with various interior and exterior upgrades to choose from. The LT boasts a turbodiesel engine that gets you a lot of torque and miles per gallon of fuel simultaneously. It also boasts various creature comforts, making the cabin feel next to luxurious.

We Recommend

To get a bang for your buck, we recommend the LT variant as it offers a powerful engine along with a great infotainment system and some additional exterior features which make this truck look striking and aggressive. For those who want better off-road performance, it would be great to add in the Z71 package.

Fuel Economy
8.0/10

Many people look for a car which gives a great combination of fuel economy and performance. The F-150 proves to be the most practical truck in terms of fuel economy as it gives maximum mileage for both on city roads (20 mpg) and on highway (25 mpg).

Seating and Comfort

The new Silverado offers a comfortable set of 2 rows which can accommodate up to 6 passengers. Chevrolet has provided cloth seats instead of leather seats but is comfortable due to minimal side bolstering. Both the front seats and the rear seats are quite roomy and comfortable. There is a generous amount of leg space in the rear seats along with the headroom. The rear also has AC vents and USB ports for charging.

To increase the comfort during long road trips, the upper trims get a heated driver's seat. The cabin feels insulated and quiet compared to other trucks but slight engine noise does come inside. When at high speeds, the grunting sounds of the engine make their way inside the cabin. The ride is quite comfortable than traditional trucks.

Infotainment

The base model comes with a standard instrument panel. The upper trims come bundled with an advanced instrument panel with either an 8" touchscreen or a crisp and vibrant 8" HD touchscreen. The dashboard is a big monolithic piece with numerous buttons on it.

The upper trims also come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The dashboard feels quite intuitive yet familiar to use. The plastic used in the dashboard feels sturdy and not cheap.

Cargo space

The Chevy offers a generous amount of boot space (71.7 cu.ft.) which can easily fit 2 motocross bikes, therefore it takes the pole position, followed by the Ram 1500 with 61.5 cu.ft. The F-150 takes the third place with 52.8 cu.ft followed by the Tacoma finishing at the last with just 38 cu.ft. of cargo space.

Competition
9.0/10

Chevrolet Silverado WT 4WD v/s Ford F150 XL SuperCrew 4x2

The Ford F-150 gave a tough competition to the new Silverado in almost all of the segments listed above. Performance-wise and from a price point, the F-150 proves to be a great truck, but when Towing capacity, interior, and other aspects are considered, the Silverado takes the lead. Both the trucks are great but if you are more into camping and take a ton of stuff along with you, then the Silverado is for you and if you can let go of some extra towing capacity for great fuel efficiency, then the F-150 is a perfect choice.

Chevrolet Silverado WT 4WD v/s Ram 1500 Tradesman Quad Cab 4x4

The Ram 1500 is a truck for those who want a combination of performance and practicality. With some impressive figures in hand, the Ram takes the lead in terms of performance and fuel economy. The main reason why the Ram wins here is due to the presence of the extra horses and the extra miles with the same price tag as that of the Silverado.

Chevrolet Silverado WT 4WD v/s Toyota Tacoma SR 4WD

Chevrolet Silverado takes a clear victory when pitted against the Tacoma as in almost all of the segments, the Silverado came out to be a clear winner. The Tacoma feels quite underpowered, small and less spacious compared to its American rival. The Silverado here really gives a bang for the money spent on it, but if you are on a tight budget and can let go of all the extra figures, then the Tacoma is for you.

Final Verdict
6.9/10

With the latest iteration of this iconic truck, Chevrolet has introduced a redesigned trim list which gives a better insight into the truck and gives a powerful 4.3L V6 in its base variant. Chevy's latest offering is quite different from the previous generation which was miserably behind the times.

In this battle of bases, the new Silverado performed well though at some points its rivals gave it a tough competition, but overall it came out to be a perfect truck for a person who will go out on family trips or to the supermarket.

This brute comes with a ton of raw power and muscle and leaves most of its rivals in the dust. Despite its dimensions and power output, the truck has a flexible nature and can give a great performance irrespective of the situation. Overall this truck is perfect for a person who wants a perfect amalgamation of performance and practicality.
