Overview

The largest sedan from Cadillac, the CT5 is the successor of long gone CTS. Vehicle does not promise exciting handling, but it can be an enjoyable ride when plugged in with optional packages. Interior is not as luxurious as its rivals, while exterior appeal no doubt shows the persona of the premium sedan. When we enter the trim section, the turbocharged four-cylinder engine looks fitted with Luxury, while to reach for a more powerful V6, shoppers need to charge their pocket extra. Seating is livable, and high-level ambiance is suited with the uppermost trims. Hauled with tones of standard modern-tech features and infotainment, CT5 showcases even spectacular safety features.

This American manufacturer will compete against some Korean, and German auto trader like Genesis G70, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and the BMW 3 Series.

Buying Advice

CARHP guide shoppers to select the Premium Luxury trim. Even without such upgrades, this trim amasses way more things to extend over the base. Power adjustable steering column, and front parking sensors, we personally are not in favor of shooting for Super Cruise Packages, because the Platinum package includes almost every feature offered in it. Adaptive cruise control on a standard basis is something that makes it a more strong choice.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

For the 2023 generation, nothing much can be expected from Cadillac. Last year it introduced Super Cruise. We can do get some inclusion and exclusion in paint options availability, otherwise, it is assumed to be pretty much the same as that of last year. Searching for Super Cruise on the base model, shoppers would be happy with standard BlindSpot monitoring and lane-keeping assists as an aid for driver assistance. This American manufacturer will compete against some Korean, and German auto trader like Genesis G70, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and the BMW 3 Series.

Features
8.0/10

This cool-looking sedan is classified into three trim levels. The base is known as Luxury, the most popular version is Premium Luxury and the striking uppermost model is Sport. ( CT5 V series are reviewed separately). Even basic CT 5 is composed of a 10-inch intuitive infotainment touchscreen, taking its power from a turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Engine and Performance
8.0/10

A mildly influential turbocharged four-cylinder engine strengthens the Cadillac CT5. It generates 237 horsepower and 258-pound feet of torque. Holding hands of a 10-speed automatic transmission, the sedan is rear-wheel driven (RWD) by default. It rushes to catch a 0-60 mph in 6.6 seconds. Newest BMW 3 series is the fastest sedan, while the Genesis G70 holds the tag of carrying the highest top-speed. Mercedes-Benz C-Class is the most expensive vehicle on our list and is faster than the remaining two. 2023 Cadillac CT5 price shows that it is the most affordable sedan. BMW and Mercedes cover the same power output, but BMW is one step ahead by eliciting an equivalent amount of torque at the least rpm. CT5 horsepower is the least of all. All sedans are rear-wheel-driven by default. G70 and 3 Series have 8-speed automatic transmissions, while CT5 and C-Class offer 10-speed, and 9-speed automatic transmissions respectively.

2023 Cadillac CT5 Ride and Handling

Ride quality of CT5 is way better than some of the mid-size sedans on market. The engine feels a bit poky, but the handling is relatively athletic. Transmission shifts are on a softer side that ensures a secure and smooth experience. Even with a less powered engine, the car feels quick when revving at high speeds. The steering wheel feels planted and is gently responsive. Seats are comfortable and won't cause any issues when driving in the city on a daily basis. When going on highways, there is not such a difference, but it is a bit energetic. Cornering around turns is pretty decent. CT5 is not a sporty sedan, but it tries to act like that as it is encouraged with well-tuned suspensions and an accurate steering column. While turning, it draws a diameter of 39 ft. Cadillac sends four drive modes in CT5. The Tour is your daily driving mode, which maximizes the comfort for city or high driving. Sport mode helps deal with a badass driving experience–it ensures immediate downshifts, sharper steering, and improved cornering. Snow/Ice mode softens throttle response for smoother low-traction control. My Mode gives all customizations to the driver's hand so that he can choose settings of his will. Standard 18-wheel wheels suited with tires of measurement 245/45R18.

2023 Cadillac CT5 Braking System

Standard forward-collision mitigation warns of an anticipated collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios. The anti-lock braking system on all four wheels by default prevents wheels from locking and supplies traction to each wheel if necessary. Lane departure mitigation alerts you of a lane departure when a turn signal is not used and helps steer back to a defined lane in some cases. Brake pedals are touch and that can lead to stopping with smoothness, hardly. The emergency braking assist system after detecting if brakes are used to gain a sudden stop pushes pedals all the way to its end.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class curb weight defines it be the heaviest sedan. It is also a vehicle with extensive brake calipers on the front wheels. Curb weight of 2023 BMW 3 Series is the least of all. Costing lesser than Genesis G70, the CT5 carries brake rotors of the same proportions. Even both vehicles show similarities in their curb weights. Braking distance of 2023 BMW is the longest of all. Being the lightest vehicle, an educated guess concludes that it shops the shortest calipers in comparison. Mercedes come to a standstill faster than any other sedan. Keeping curb weight and brake calipers sizes of Genesis, we can assume that it will stop around the distance that Cadillac CT5 stops at.

Fuel Economy
7.6/10

Turbocharged four-cylinder engine is promising at delivering mileage numbers at par with rivals in the segment. It archives a combined mileage of 27 mpg while giving 23 in city driving, and 33 on the highways. When completely injecting its fuel tank of 17 gallons, it shows a combined range of 459 miles– 391 miles when moving around the city, and 561 miles while revving it on highways.

Remember, mpg numbers of 2023 Mercedes C-Class are predictions. It is not been tested yet. Though its fuel capacity is certain–which is highest of all. 2023 Cadillac mpg numbers are better than Genesis and with the help of its comparatively larger fuel tank, it scores more miles. BMW 3 series earns extra 1 and 2 mpg on city and highway over CT5. The shortest fuel tank is held with BMW 3 series, but it scores better mileage than G70.

Interior
7.0/10

To be fair, the interior of the Cadillac CT5 is not induced with luxurious elements as are on BMW or Mercedes. But it is comfortable, though. Front and rear doors open generously wider to maintain ease of surfing in and out of the vehicle. Here’s a catch, a vehicle lower to the ground creates complexities for the people having a height more than an average one. Front door panels send controls for seat adjustments– 12-way driver and 10-way front passenger, ahead of window controls. The Interior is suited to simulated leather upholstery that promotes a premium approach. Front row seats are relaxing and can help during long drives without such complaints. Moreover, the second-row seats want more headroom– due to the slanting roof design. Originally, there is no sunroof, until you go for optional packages that bring a heated steering wheel along with it. Driving position is OK, but the car is left behind in terms of visibility– it is complaining. Hard-touch plastic covers the whole cabin, and with that, it tarnishes the taste of a luxury car. The dashboard looks dated and holds a touchscreen display proportionate to 10-inches by default. Supposes an AC vent on one end and another beside the instrument cluster. The steering wheel is average looking and holds controls without any chrome cornering around them. The infotainment touchscreen underneath hides two more AC vents enclosed by climate and other controls. Center console is good, no doubt. The center armrests provide a good length and cover more storage compartments underneath. Console is in a subtle finish conveying a cool-looking gear selector and a rotary knob with few controls around it. Impressive thing is, it renders a wireless charging pad by default.

Cadillac CT5 interior shows an extensive amount of legroom in its second row, which is the highest of all. Genesis G70 and the new BMW 3 Series carry the least amount of shoulder space in their second-row seats. Cargo carrying capacity is seen lowest in Genesis, while with a new look, the BMW brings the biggest cargo compartment in the comparison. With a gap of extra one or two inches, all cars are almost equally spacious, but the seats of Mercedes are said to be the most comfortable and it contends with BMW.

Highlights of interior aesthetics of Cadillac CT5–

  • Front bucket seats with 12-way driver and 10-way passenger adjustments
  • 2-way power head restraints
  • Full carpet floor covering

How Intuitive is the 2023 Cadillac CT5 Infotainment System?

The infotainment system on CT5 is impressive and can make drivers happy with its responsiveness. It is loaded with modern tech features anyone would yearn for in a luxury sedan. Standard 10-inch infotainment touchscreen is bright and efficiently handles all the tasks that are ordered to be done. Running on the latest CUE (Cadillac User Experience), it brings integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The screen is logically structured and swaps most of the physical buttons of previous years' generations. It can be operated either by interacting with touch response or with the help of a rotary knob mounted beautifully on the center console. Nine speaker audio system can be altered with a 15-speaker Bose stereo, of course by paying extra.

Highlights of the infotainment system-

  • 10-inch touchscreen display
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity
  • Standard wireless charging pad
  • Optional head-up display
  • 3 USB ports
  • HD Radio
  • SD card reader
  • Speed compensated volume controls
  • Steering wheel control
  • Optional Wifi Hotspot capability

Exterior
7.0/10

Outer expressions of CT5 are as smooth looking as it should be in a vehicle playing around this price range. Front hood encloses a turbocharged four-cylinder engine fitted inside it. The lid cover shows little design elements of uplifted lines proposing a look of -more than a normal vehicle. Front fascia contains a signature-styled Cadillac grille with a logo on the lap of it. LED headlights with daytime running lights recreate the role of aggressive eyes. With optional parking sensors, the spoiler retains a horizontal grille for participation. Side profile is sleek looking. Standard 18-inch alloy wheels run with tire dimensions of P245/45R18. A shopper can choose from eight exterior color pallets, while we prefer maroon. Outside rearview mirrors hold a two-tone finish matching with clearcoat paint and black accents. Window and door panels come dipped with black elements cornering around, while door handles show in a color, a shopper chooses a car to look like in shade. Sloping roofline goes all the way to the rear end leaving a bit before the rear full merger. Rear end matching the subtle finish of the car is clean looking. Elegant taillights on either side and the Cadillac logo at the center.

Safety
8.0/10

The sedan gains an overall safety rating of 5 stars from the NHTSA. A bunch of safety features are offered with CT5. Standard blindspot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert–warns if a vehicle is in your blind spot during a lane change or while in reverse. Forward collision mitigation of an impending collision and applying brakes in certain scenarios. The optional adaptive cruise control maintains a necessary distance between the vehicle moving forward and the Cadillac CT5. In an emergency, it applies brakes to bring the vehicle to a full stop. The pre-collision safety system uses radar to detect possible crashes and slow down the vehicle to lessen or avoid the impact of crashes.

Key features of the safety system of CT5-

Competition

2023 Cadillac CT5 vs. 2023 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Mercedes costs much and attracts more cargo capacity and a bigger fuel tank. With less power, Cadillac shows a longer wheelbase and an enlarged length. The exterior appearance of both vehicles is significantly different. One carries a sloping roof, while Mercedes brings a normal design structure. Interior space is decently distributed while passengers seated on the second row of CT5 might ask for head space. The infotainment systems of both are good, but the dashboard design of Mercedes looks way ahead.

2023 Cadillac CT5 vs. 2023 Genesis G70

Genesis brings an additional appealing body design, while CT5 show dealing with more fuel carrying capacity. G70 is good at maintaining better mileage numbers. Cadillac is based on a longer wheelbase. Genesis brings a standard 19-inch wheel while CT5 only brings wheels of measurement 18-inches. Both are suited with a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, while on Cadillac it works well with CUE. Genesis is a bit faster and has more top speed.

2022 Cadillac CT5 vs. 2023 BMW 3 Series

The 2023 BMW is on a whole new level when we dive into its cabin. Though it costs more but seems worth every penny. More cargo space, competitive mileage figures, and faster acceleration show it over CT5. Meanwhile, Cadillac is based on a longer wheelbase and shows more range. The dashboard of BMW is super clean and looks more refined, while Cadillac brings a wireless charging pad by default. Both carry 18-inch wheels

Final Verdict

Cadillac brings an emotion of affinity as it s an American brand. It costs the least of all and offers good mileage, a well-organized infotainment system induced with CUE, good seating space, and impressive cargo capacity. Though originally the car does not bring tons of safety features, shoppers have to spend more for that. The engine feels a bit sluggish, and ride quality is better on the rival. Want a good car under $40k, it is a good option. Ready for more and want updated interior, Mercedes C-Class stands behind. Genesis shows a very good possibility. Meanwhile, the new BMW is two steps ahead of everyone competing against it.
