What I dislike about the 2020 Premium Enclave.......I do not like the 20 inch wheel that came with the SUV (they are rough riding transmit way too much noise and reduce MPG)......The dash design belongs on the cheapest Chevrolet ever made......the Bose is the worst sounding radio system I haveRead More

The door seals, Buick and possibly all other vehicle brands, that are put in to seal up the vehicle are cheap quality and do not keep the dust from gravel roads, or road noise from coming into the vehicle. We have had this problem with our Buick Enclave 2013 we owned and now the Buick Enclave 2020 we have. Cheaper materials,Read More

... Enclave Avenir from the dealership. My transmission this September went out and the car only has a little over 13000 miles. It has been over 30 days since it was towed in for repair and I can’t seem to get any updates from the dealership or GM as to when it will be repaired. I originally fell in love with the look of my Enclave and the way it drove. But now I can’t wait to get it fixed so I canRead More

The Enclave has been Buick’s trump card for quite some years now. The 2018 iteration brought in a much-needed update for the Buick Enclave, but things have not been all smooth sailing for Buick ever since. The 2020 model year, which marks the third running year of the current model has racked up 6 recalls, making it one of the worst-performing model years of this generation of Enclave SUVs. Although the number of complaints has seen a drop, the transmission has been a real deal-breaker on this SUV for this year.

With a reliability rating of 84/100 from J.D. Power the 2020 Buick Enclave leads the pack of vehicles like the GMC Acadia, the Chevrolet Traverse, and the Kia Telluride. Popular Youtube channel "Howstuffinmycarowrks" showcases a list of all the problems that an Enclave owner might face in the initial years of its ownership. Check out the video below and read on to find out if the Enclave 2020 is worth investing your money in.

Key observations in the video:

  • Fuel pump malfunction & failure
  • Overcured Continental tires may split
  • Defective parking brake accutuator
  • Transmission slipping and shaking below 40 MPH
  • 3.6L suffers from carbon buildup around the valves

2020 Buick Enclave User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical Complaints

  • Transmission- The transmission has been the primary weak spot of the 2020 Buick Enclave. Owners have been complaining about the unit jerking when slotting between the drive selector and when the unit is shifting through the cogs in auto mode. Even though the TCU was reflashed from the dealer, the issue persists in many users. One low-speed crash has also been recorded by the NHTSA on this issue, where the vehicle lurched forward without warning when slotted into drive. The average mileage of occurrence of this problem is around 2,000-miles.
  • Service brakes- Grinding noise from the brakes is another common issue on the 2020 Buick Enclave. Owners who got the pads/discs replaced under warranty still complain about the issue coming back soon even though they got the components changed, Aftermarket brake pads are the only working resolution to this complaint.

Electric System complaints

  • Infotainment- OnStar system and Wi-Fi connection on the media system is said to go out intermittently on the Buick Enclave.Even though the dealers are aware of these issues, no software update on this glitch is made available. The official helpline is also said to be cumbersome with their help when approached.

Structural Complaints

  • Front doors- The front doors on the 2020 Buick Enclave are said to freeze easily in winter preventing access to the vehicle. Melted ice between the door and the frame freeze over time preventing the doors from opening even if the system unlocks. Poor door sealing is the reason for this complaint.

Safety Complaints

  • Forward collision avoidance system- Not a widespread issue here, but the auto emergency braking system is said to be faulty on the 2020 Buick Enclave. The user complained about the vehicle moving on itself and hitting the car in front multiple times in adaptive cruise control mode without warning, whilst laying stationery for a red light. Since the issue was a one-off and could not be replicated by the dealer, no further proceedings were made on this issue apart from a system check.

Should you buy a used 2020 Buick Enclave?

The Buick Enclave is a premium-tier midsize SUV you could get your hands on without breaking your bank. As good as it is, the reliability part of these SUVs is far from the best we have seen in this class. Even though this generation of Enclave SUVs was brought out in 2018, the issues seem far from being sorted out, especially with the transmission side taking a major blow on low run vehicles and the recall numbers seeing an all-time high with the 2020 model year. All though we were decently impressed by this SUV on our short test, it ends up not being quite that promising in the long run making it hard for us to recommend it as a good used buy even if you have seen one listed for sale at a good deal.
