2022 Buick Enclave User Complaints and Problems
Buick has been in the market for a very long time and over the years, which amount to more than 50, they have provided lots of products that have been excellent. However, modern cars have reset the reliability reputation for a lot of manufacturers because they are so incredibly complex. Hence, one cannot just randomly assume that every car from Buick might be a reliable one. We believe in undertaking an in-depth study and checking whether each model is reliable.
The best way to look at common complaints, at least according to us is by going through the complaints listed on the NHTSA website. The organization records complaints that have been raised by owners of that particular model and it does so impartially because it does not operate based on profit. The current generation has been in production since 2018 and hence we take a look at Buick Enclave issues below.
Mechanical problems:
- Several owners have complained about the brakes making a grinding noise when they are being used. This is an annoyance to passengers and robs the confidence of the driver. Most complaints associated with this car in the 2021 model year are due to the brakes making this grinding noise.
- Another owner has said there is an issue of vehicle jerking at low speeds, especially when accelerating.
- One user has reported a lot of Buick Enclave transmission problems. The problems started appearing the car was purchased and continued to occur despite being taken to the dealership several times.
Electrical system problems:
- One contact stated that while driving downhill at approximately 75 MPH, the vehicle decelerated to 20 MPH and indicated a warning message saying it cannot shift. The problem was identified as a fuel tank sensor when taken to a dealership. However, even after replacing the sensor, the failure re-occurred.
Interior problems:
- One user of the car has reported that the sunroof exploded while the car was being driven. This caused a loud sound and at the time of the explosion, no windows were open inside the car.
- Another user has reported that the rear sunshade clip has broken twice in five months and it seems to be made out of a low-quality material.
Safety problems:
- One owner reported that a person had an accident inside this car while parked near the garage. There were injuries sustained to her back and neck and she also had seizures while being taken to the hospital. Airbags failed to deploy in this event and the car had not provided any safety to the passenger.
- Many owners have faced problems with the lane departure warning of this car not being accurate.
Miscellaneous problems:
- One owner has complained that the running boards on the Buick Enclave ice up in the winter. This prevents the doors from opening and hence becomes a safety problem for people using the car.

We can see that the manufacturer has not issued a sufficient number of recalls over the 2021 model despite it having many complaints. The most evident thing is that the grinding issue associated with the brakes has not found a solution yet from the manufacturer. We do hope that at least some owners were offered solutions but that would just be wishful thinking.
Which model year of the Buick Enclave should you avoid?
The current generation of the Buick Enclave has been in production since 2018 and it is not too early to say anything about the long-term reliability of this particular generation. It has kept up a minimum number of complaints but the problem is that the manufacturer has not provided adequate support to owners so they could maintain their cars peacefully. If we have to pick a year for you to avoid, it would be the slightly older ones.
This would mean the 2008 Buick Enclave. This was the first model year of the first-generation car and hence it had a lot of hiccups. After this, the brand has considerably improved the reliability of this car and has been very successful in doing so. This shows that the car is reliable and makes the new generation’s number of complaints seem very less.
Should you buy the 2022 Buick Enclave?
The Buick Enclave received a thorough refresh in 2018 and has continued to entice buyers since. It is a good car with a lot of technology and a lot of strengths. We are happy to report that reliability is one of those strengths because the car has an excellent reputation for this. Compared to some of the luxury picks in the segment, it can be considered a value-for-money offering too. Hence, we would recommend this car to our readers.
