Overview

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover PHEV is all set to enter the American market later this year with an expected price tag of $98,000. This luxury SUV may very likely come with more upgraded luxury features and looking at the current market sentiments we can also expect a full plug-in model this year. Jaguar (parent company) is also planning to change its platform with its own MLB platform with better aerodynamics and rigidity. The closest rivals of this luxury SUV would be the 2021 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid, 2021 Volvo XC90 Recharge PHEV T8 Inscription, and the 2021 BMW X5 xDrive45e.

Buying Advice

The HSE trim would be sufficient for anyone but when it comes to models that are this expensive, it is a matter of individual choice. The Autobiography trim comes with a truckload of extra features and luxury features at a much higher price as seen in the table above. However, the powertrain remains the same and the choice is entirely subjective.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The all-new 2022 Land Rover Range Rover PHEV will integrate various exciting features in its luxury SUV this year. Although the features are not confirmed by the carmaker yet for this year we will likely see a complete plug-in model. Other than that, if we believe the rumors we will also get to see a V8 engine debut this year in the base model. It will also be available with a longer wheelbase version and loads of convenience as well as infotainment features are very likely to join the list.

Features

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover PHEV is available in two distinct trims with their features and prices differentiating them drastically. The HSE is the base trim which is by no means basic and comes with a truckload of features and creature comforts. The Autobiography adds more to the list even more in all ways making it an epitome of luxury.

The following table shows the expected prices of each trim and the features they come equipped with.

Fuel Economy
3.0/10

The 2022 Range Rover doesn’t deliver much impressive mpg figures from a PHEV as expected. The Range Rover PHEV comes with a 13.1 kWh battery pack delivering an all-electric range of 19-miles with the ability to travel up to speeds of 85mph. The gas mileage of the PHEV is a combined 19mpg. The combined range is around 456 miles which is pretty good as it has a higher capacity fuel tank.

The fuel MPG figures are not in favor of the Range Rover PHEV as it gives the lowest range amongst all the other competitors. The Range Rover, however, does have the biggest fuel tank in its class so that the range is not affected by the low mpg figures. The Volvo is the most fuel-efficient in the competition and none of the competitors reaches anywhere near it.

Interior
7.0/10

Land Rover highly believes in dressing it's cabin with lavish materials and precise engineering coupled with various luxury features. Its cabin remains to be a dream place for any car enthusiast to be in at least for once. It also provides you with multiple optional plush features that you can add to the list by paying a little extra which we will discuss later on. Firstly, it has a wide cabin dimension inside and has one of the biggest rear legroom in its class. The standard cargo space also remains to be dominating in its segment but we have to agree to the fact that this car only has two rows.

The cabin looks astonishing with its dual-color tone along with wooden finishes on the edges along with a well-designed dash area. The seats, steering wheel, shift-knob, and dash are bolstered in luxury quality leather material. The front seat support system is superb which comes in a 20-way power-adjustable option in the HSE trim. It becomes 24-way adjustable with massage function in the higher Autobiography trim. The Autobiography trim also gets executive class power recline heated and cooled rear seats along with four-zone automatic climate control which is to-zone in the HSE trim.

The Range Rover has overall a great interior as well as standard cargo space. In the front row, The BMW has a better space out of all the other rivals. But, on the second row, the Range Rover wins hands down with much better headroom and legroom. The BMW and the Range Rover also offer the most cargo capacity. Some features of this car’s interior are mentioned below:

  • 20/24-way power-adjustable front seats
  • Power reclining heated rear seats
  • Executive Class Power Recline Heated and Cooled Rear Seats (Autobiography trim)
  • Heated and Cooled Massage front seats (Autobiography trim)
  • Heated wood and leather steering wheel
  • Steering wheel mounted touch-sensitive buttons
  • Three/Four-zone automatic climate control
  • Configurable ambient interior mood lighting

2022 Land Rover Range Rover PHEV: Infotainment & Connectivity

The 2022 Range Rover PHEV comes with a fairly well-appointed infotainment system. The infotainment features two 10-inch touchscreen displays stacked vertically. Although, some additions are highly expected for this year. One of the displays has been placed at the center dash that helps you with navigation and other basic functions like connectivity. While the other one controls the air con and other vehicle settings. You will also get the likes of Apple Carplay & Android Auto for device integration. The steering wheel also has various touch-sensitive functions to simplify usability.

The Range Rover PHEV models are equipped with a Meridian Surround sound system in the HSE model and a Meridien Signature sound system in the Autobiography model. It will also provide you wireless charging, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay integration along with all the other common and basic features. All in all, its existing infotainment system will be enough to pump you up but comparatively its rivals are a little better in this segment.

Some infotainment features of this car are mentioned below:

  • Apple Carplay & Android Auto
  • Meridian Surround Sound System
  • Interactive driver display
  • Rear seat entertainment system
  • SiriusXM satellite radio and HD radio
  • Navigation Pro

Exterior
7.0/10

To date, there has been some buzz about its refreshed exterior but the spy shots of this model year don’t hint us at any major changes. The exterior part is expected to have the same characteristics as its predecessor but Land Rover may surprise us with some minor tweaks. Overall, the exterior looks sleepy and aesthetic, and it follows the luxury aura all around. The signature honeycomb grille will remain the same in size and no changes are expected this year.

The front honeycomb grille of this car has a dedicated compartment that acts as a gateway for charging the vehicle. The PHEV is equipped with 20-inch wheels in the HSE trim and larger 21-inch ones in the Autobiography trim.

From the above chart, we can say that the Range Rover seems to be on the heavier side compared to the other rivals but the BMW is the absolute heaviest among them all. Overall, it has good exterior dimensions but the Volvo XC90 here seems to be a little better comparatively with a longer wheelbase and ground clearance while maintaining the lowest weight. The Range however is the longest among the competition.

  • 20" 12-spoke, Gloss Silver Alloy Wheels
  • 21" 7-split-spoke, Gloss Light Silver with contrast Diamond Turned finish Alloy Wheels (Autobiography)
  • Sliding panoramic roof
  • Premium LED Headlights with Signature DRL and Auto High Beam Assist (AHBA)
  • Infrared absorbing laminated front and laminated rear side glass

Safety
7.0/10

As expected from the Range Rover, the 2022 Range Rover PHEV would be filled up with all sorts of safety features and driver assistance tech. The standard features include Blind Spot Assist, Surround Camera System, Driver Condition Monitor, and Lane Keep Assist along with other features. The Range Rover is built upon a tried and tested platform that is for sure one of the safest in the market and coupled with the host safety features makes it one of the safest vehicles on the planet. The following are some of the most important safety tech-

  • Park Assist
  • 360⁰ Parking Aid
  • Clear Exit Monitor
  • Rear Traffic Monitor
  • Traffic Sign Recognition and Adaptive Speed Limiter
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Steering Assist

Final Verdict

Yes, the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover seems to be a value-packed luxury SUV in front of its competitors. The features, mileage, off-road supremacy, and luxury of Range Rover are still unmatched and it justifies its price somewhat. However, there is room for improvement in the performance and handling side of this PHEV. This year we are expecting some big changes which will make it better performance-wise and also some more infotainment features will be an add-on.
