Acura being the ace division of the Japanese giant Honda has always managed to provide value for money deals and the Acura NSX is no less as this compact coupe makes high-performance machinery approachable for many. Although the NSX hasn’t been officially rated for its reliability, the fact that Honda takes care of the service network is an assurance that the vehicle is easier to maintain than many other performance vehicles. The coupe has managed to take its spot in 170 garages across the US but that is a massive drop considering Acura sold 581 NSX in 2017. This might not be a high volume but considering it’s a performance vehicle, it is a decent figure for a manufacturer that specializes in making vehicles for multiple segments. NHTSA reports just 2 recalls and 0 complaints against the 2018 NSX, supporting its reliability standards but its rivals such as the Audi R8, the Nissan GT-R, and the McLaren 570S were all preferred more in comparison. The 2018 model is currently being valued at an average resale price of $148,000, which is a huge drop from its original $156,000.

User complaints and problems

Electrical Problems

  • Battery – Multiple users found the NSX to run out of charge way too soon and this left the users waiting while the car had to charge itself using an external source. While the dealers were asked about the issue, it was stated that the car needs to be plugged into a trickle charger while not in use as it helps retain the battery charge.

Structural Problems

  • Body panel gaps – THe Acura NSX was noticed to have uneven panel gaps and this denotes if a vehicle is well made or not. Users were disappointed with this quality flaw as the car costs over $150,000 and the dealers were helpless as this was a manufacturing issue.

Fuel Pump May Fail

The gasoline tank's internal low-pressure fuel pump could malfunction. Engine stalling while driving increases the likelihood of a collision if the fuel pump malfunctions.

Honda will give owners notice, and dealers will free of charge replace the fuel pump assembly.

Fuel Tank Crossover Couplings may Leak Fuel

Between the left and right fuel tanks, the crossover pipe couplers may leak. A fuel leak with an igniting source nearby can make a fire more likely.

Owners will be notified by Honda, and dealers will exchange the left and right fuel tanks at no cost. The recall started on February 12, 2019.

Should you buy the 2019 Acura NSX?

Acura NSX is one of those supercars that are ignored and underestimated as its rival brands such as Audi, Nissan, and McLaren hold higher brand value, especially in the performance segment. However, the car loses out in terms of quality as users have complained of uneven panel gaps, and that is a major concern for a car this expensive. The other major issue with the car was regarding its fuel propulsion system but Acura resolved them by issuing recalls. Although we do not see much of an issue in picking a used 2018 Acura NSX, it is good to consider the rivals as well, as they carry a better value. If the NSX is what you really want, we would recommend getting the recall repairs inspected and also ensuring that the service records are available as it affects the resale value of the vehicle.
