2019 already transmission problems, burning oil, had to replace the water pump bc low oil and low coolant constantly, dealerships won’t acknowledge the transmission problems and utilize the warranty even though there is a class action law suit for this specifically. Tried to charge me 1500 dollars out of warranty to change the spark plugs (too early for that) and to spray some type ofRead More

Car has had acceleration issues from Delivery. Not in a “engine too small for vehicle weight” but in a way that felt like there was a delay in gas delivery/combustion or even a disconnect with shifting. It’s scary as heck trying to pull into traffic, not knowing if your car won’t continue driving. Even though the car isRead More

The 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan sets out to prove itself as a solid SUV option that can switch roles between commuting and touring. The SUV offers a comfortable and versatile experience for a family SUV. However, the Volkswagen SUV struggles with reliability concerns and complaints. These concerns vary from brake defects to airbag deployment failures.

A few of these issues result in major concerns and force recalls. On the record, the 2019 Tiguan registers 74 complaints and 4 recalls so far. The SUV rivals the Honda CR-V, the Toyota Rav4, and the Subaru Forester in the compact SUV segment. Furthermore, the VW Tiguan ranks 4th on the CarHp list of the top 10 compact SUVs of 2019. Scroll for a detailed view of the car.

User Complaints and Problems

While every vehicle offered on sale usually develops mechanical issues over the years, but when the problems get severe, things get risky. That said, the Tiguan 2019 has a decent number of issues that spoils the overall experience of the owners. Here is a list of all the major problems faced by Volkswagen Tiguan owners.

Mechanical Problems

  • Brakes - Few Tiguan users report the SUV fails to brake by depressing the brake pedal. Reduced braking performance increases the chances of crashing.
  • Powertrain - Most powertrain issues with the Tiguan relate to the transmission of the SUV. These issues include hesitant shifting and Throttle lag. Resolving powertrain issues is a costly affair.
  • Suspension - Few user complaints report the suspension being too stiff while driving over speedbumps. Damaged suspension compromises the comfort and handling abilities of the car. This can increase the risk of crashing.
  • Engine - Engine stalling is a known issue with the Tiguan. Users report a sharp loss of speed and drive power before stalling. Sudden loss of speed increases the chances of a crash.
  • Accelerator - Users report accelerator pedal malfunction leading to failure in accelerating. Few cases also report unintended acceleration. These issues increase the chances of crashing.

Electrical Problems

  • Driver aids - Users report the driver aids on the SUV to be oversensitive and intrusive. The Most common driver aid issues with the car include AEB and forward collision avoidance malfunctions. The Auto emergency braking (AEB) malfunction leads to harsh braking under driving conditions. In the case of forward collision avoidance, the car fails to brake in the presence of an imminent threat. These malfunctions compromise safety and increase the chances of crashing.
  • Headlights - The headlights operated on low beams do not illuminate the road surface adequately. Dimmed headlight illumination increases the risk of crashing while driving under dark conditions.

Safety Problems

  • Airbags - Airbag deployment failure in the event of a crash is a known issue with the truck. This compromises user safety and increases the risk of injury.

Structural Problems

  • Sunroof/Moonroof - The Sunroof/moonroof of the car is prone to explode under driving conditions. Users report shattered sunroof following a loud noise. This increases the risk of injury to the occupants and can distract the driver. Few cases also report water leakage with undamaged sunroofs. .

2019 Volkswagen Tiguan Recalls

When any issue is persistent and plagues a large number of units of any vehicle, the government authority, the NHTSA calls out for recalls to manufacturers to get them fixed. The 2019 Tiguan has been doing particularly well in this regard as it has faced just the 4 recalls to date which is not bad considering the time it has spent in production.
