Buying Advice

You might get impressed by higher Cayenne trims which will be reviewed separately but the base trim itself offers superior performance for an SUV by any standards and boasts all the modern features that you’d appreciate in your premium midsize SUV. To complete the package, we would also recommend adding the Premium Package, which would bring additional security and convenience features.

2024 Porsche Cayenne Release Date

As of June 2023, the 2024 Porsche Cayenne can be configured and ordered via the official Porsche website in the USA.

Engine and Performance
9.0/10

The 2024 new Porsche Cayenne engine is a retuned 3.0-liter single-turbo V6 engine with an increased output of 348 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque. So, it has 13 hp and 36 lb-ft of torque more than the current Cayenne, improving its power-to-weight ratio further. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that encourages driver engagement via its paddle shifters. Along with launch control, there are three different driving modes that can change the entire character of the SUV with just a flick.

The available driving modes are Normal, Sport, and Off-Road. Porsche claims the 2024 Cayenne can do a 0 to 60 sprint in just 5.7 seconds (5.4 sec with Sport Chrono), an impressive feat considering its weight and flat out. It will do nearly 154 mph with summer tires. The PASM (adaptive suspension) with an optimized two-valve suspension setup results in a more optimized chassis for handling and control. The 2024 Cayenne S gets excess power from the new V8 engine, making it one of the fastest Porsche cars, rushing 0-60 in 4.7 seconds.

Compared to the 2024 Cayenne the BMW X7 reigns superior in all the metrics with 375 horsepower. Nearly all of the 2024 Cayenne peers boast of the same engine specs, however, the Range Rover has the slowest top speed of just 140 mph. The Cayenne despite being low on horsepower also is the most affordable, balancing things out. The X7's engine is a highly awarded unit with a very broad power curve, while the GLS’s engine is anything but fun to drive and is geared more toward hauling than driver engagement.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

The 2024 Cayenne mpg ratings are 17 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined. So, the highway gas mileage has increased by 1 mpg as compared to the 2023 Cayenne. The Cayenne SUV is equipped with a massive 23.7-gallon fuel tank that can enable longer journeys with ease. So, one can expect to travel up to 450 miles on a full tank of gas in combined driving conditions.

Apart from Cayenne, all the SUVs manage a similar amount of combined consumption that hovers between 21 and 22 mpg. The Range Rover Sport has the highest highway figure of 26 mpg, thanks to its mild hybrid technology. Meanwhile, the BMW X7 leads the city mpg figures with 21 mpg. The Range Rover is the only car that can breach the 500-mile mark with ease in a combined range of 523 miles. For those looking for better gas mileage and want a Cayenne, look out for the Cayenne E-Hybrid.

Interior
8.5/10

The 2024 Porsche Cayenne interior is redesigned with an infusion of more tech. The new dashboard design boasts more screens and is reminiscent of the Taycan EV. The gear selector in the new Cayenne is present on the dashboard, allowing better space management in the center console. Most common functions are provided near the steering wheel for easy access to them. The interior is lavishly appointed with standard partial leather seats in Black or Black with Mojave Beige accents.

The full leather seats can be had in Black and Black in combination with Chalk, Bordeaux Red, Night Green, Mojave Beige, and Blackberry combinations. The club leather seats can be had in Basalt Black or Basalt Black / Barrique Red interior color combinations. The interior is lavishly appointed with rich leather and contrast stitching. The front seats offer good support with bolstering and are eight-way power-adjustable. The standard dual-zone climate control improves comfort, while quad-zone control is optional.

The Porsche Cayenne is smaller than its competition. Obviously, the comfort levels will be lower as compared to their competitors. Even in terms of practicality, the Cayenne has less cargo storage space than its rivals. However, the support offered by seats during spirited driving is unparalled. Porsche has tried to make the 2024 Cayenne's interior more modern with the right combination of digitization and classic analogs.

However, not everything is less inside. The interior of the 2024 Cayenne boasts a revised display and control concept. The 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster is crisp and clear with variable display options. The central infotainment screen is also a 12.3-inch touchscreen with PCM and offers support for apps like Spotify and Apple Music. To enhance the front passenger's experience, a 10.9-inch screen is also available for video streaming and entertainment controls.

Some of the key interior features of the 2024 Porsche Cayenne are:

  • 14-way front power-adjustable seats (Available)
  • Quad zone climate control (Available)
  • Redesigned digital cockpit with multiple screens.
  • Adaptive sports seats (Available)
  • Heated and ventilated rear seats (Available)
  • Burmester 3D High-End Surround Sound System (Available)

Exterior
8.5/10

The 2024 Porsche Cayenne has some noticeable visual changes that set it apart from the last generation Cayenne, like a new front end combined with more pronounced fenders, a new hood design, and redesigned headlights. Porsche now offers high-definition Matrix-designed LED headlights for better illumination. A clean rear end with a connected LED strip and an integrated license plate holder give it a more youthful appearance.

The 2024 Porsche Cayenne colors, like Algarve Blue Metallic, Montego Blue Metallic, and Arctic Grey, are newly added to the already extensive color palette. Porsche also offers wheels ranging from 20 to 22 inches with multiple design options. Porsche's Exclusive Manufactur also offers exterior packages like the Extended Exterior Package in Black and SportDesign Packages in High Gloss Black and Carbon Fiber.

The Cayenne 2024 is the smallest and lightest vehicle in the comparison. The BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS 450 are longer, resulting in better rear-seat legroom. The longer wheelbase helps with high-speed stability. The small wheelbase of the Porsche is key to its agile nature and handling. In the above comparison, width is the only element that is identical. The BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 are the only 7-seater SUVs, and as such, they are the heaviest at more than 5400 pounds each, resulting in less nimble handling.

Safety
8.5/10

Considering its exotic and low-volume production, the official safety rating has not been released yet. However, rest assured, the Porsche Cayenne is one of the safest SUVs you can buy, but in the luxury midsize segment. The top-notch design, manufacturing, and testing of Cayenne's chassis and provided airbags would ensure the safety of all passengers inside.

Some of the standard safety features of the 2024 Cayenne are:

  • Traffic sign recognition
  • Lane change assist
  • ParkAssist (front and rear), including reverse camera
  • Lane keep assist
  • Active speed limiter

Competition

2024 Porsche Cayenne vs. 2024 BMW X7

The BMW X7's biggest USP is its 7-passenger capacity, albeit with a lot of compromises. The third-row seating is barely enough for kids, let alone adults. The X7's higher curb weight affects its handling and driving dynamics. However, BMW's maintenance packages and relatively affordable ownership cost make it an enticing car to buy.

Unless the buyer is looking for one of the best handling SUVs ever to come out of Stuttgart, in the latter case, the 2024 Cayenne emerges as a clear winner that has mastered the basics and then some, and as such, it is pretty much a sports car that can also carry up to five passengers with poise.

2024 Porsche Cayenne vs. 2024 Range Rover Sport

The newly redesigned Range Rover has been a conversation starter at many car and coffee meets. Its subtly styled fascia and unparalleled off-road prowess set it apart from the bunch and make it a definite recommendation as far as outdoor adventure is concerned.

However, its fiddly infotainment system and lethargic engine performance make it one of the compromised SUVs, sans the supercharged V8 model. The Porsche Cayenne, conversely, is much more driver-focused than before with its newly redesigned infotainment and can easily handle a day or two of rock crawling, especially when equipped with the off-road package.

2024 Porsche Cayenne vs. 2024 Mercedes GLS 450

Another one of the might 7 seaters on our list, the GLS is perhaps the least compromised SUV on our list that can carry a generous amount of cargo and passengers pretty much everywhere on earth.

However, it lacks anything substantial that could justify its nearly $80,000 price tag. The new Cayenne is a much more recent model that beats the GLS hand down in driver engagement and user experience, which is severely overlooked in the overrated SUV market.

Final Verdict
8.0/10

The Porsche Cayenne is a supremely capable machine with little to no cons that can be associated with it. The Cayenne blends the practicality of an SUV with Porsche's sports DNA pretty well. Porsche has ironed out most of Cayenne's niggles and added the much-needed technology and design to keep up with the growing competition.

In terms of warranty, the Cayenne 2024 gets a limited vehicle warranty and paint warranty of 50,000 miles or 4 years. The limited corrosion warranty is for 12 years or unlimted miles. However, if you want better performance, then the latest “S” trim with the V8 engine makes more sense, and for efficiency and performance, the CayenneTurbo E-Hybrid is better.
