Nissan ranks among those automakers who are responsible for keeping affordable cars up and running for budget-oriented buyers. The 2019 Nissan Versa, a good example of an inexpensive sedan, has been losing its preference due to its crude and obsolete characteristics yet it has a decent reliability section in the segment. It has seen a single recall along with just 10 complaints so far. As far as rivals are concerned, the Hyundai Accent, and the Toyota Yaris are among the favorites. Speaking of problems, the "1A Auto: Repair Tips & Secrets Only Mechanics Know" highlights that there can be delayed acceleration compared to RPM and misalignment of the axle in the bearing. To know more, Click on the video below:

Nissan Versa user complaints and problems

Electrical problems

  • Complete electrical failure: One owner lodged a complaint regarding this issue. In the report, it was mentioned that on several occasions, the electronic system of the vehicle stopped working while driving. Post this incident, the owner noticed that the motor was more reluctant to start and even failed to start in a few instances.

Safety problems

  • Unresponsive brakes: In a report, the owner mentioned that the vehicle’s brakes failed to work while driving on minor snowy or icy roads. The contact was an experienced driver and has been driving for 40 years according to the report. It was further mentioned that in some cases, upon pressing the brake pedal, a rattling sound came from under the vehicle but the vehicle failed to stop.
  • Airbag Failure: A single owner complained about an airbag failure. The report mentioned that while driving, the owner was involved in a crash but the vehicle’s airbags failed to deploy causing injuries.
  • Excessive brake pedal travel: In this case, the complainant reported that while applying the brakes, the pedal went all the way down to the floorboard. It was also mentioned that the owner noticed this issue wherever the vehicle was overheating.

Engine problems

  • Transmission problems: A few complaints about the transmission of the 2019 Nissan Versa were reported. The issues were separate in every report. In one scenario, the Versa was equipped with a manual transmission which failed including the clutch. In another case, a CVT-equipped Versa had issues with the transmission as well. The owner mentioned that the CVT made loud noises while shifting gears, especially from park to drive mode or from drive to reverse. In a couple of cases, the transmission gave issues while going up a gradient.

No Back-Up Camera Display Image/FMVSS 111

The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.

Nissan will notify owners in phases, having dealers update the backup camera settings software, free of charge. The recall began on November 11, 2019 and all affected VINs should be activated.

Should you buy a used Nissan Versa?

The Nissan Versa appeals to budget-oriented buyers with its attractive and affordable base price but, is pretty barebones as compared to its competitors. Despite being an inexpensive car, the Versa’s reliability has been pretty solid over the years and hasn’t seen grave issues so far. Hence going for a used Nissan Versa would be a good option too since the prices would be a bargain. However, you can also opt for better competitors such as the Hyundai Accent or the Toyota Yaris since they are equally reliable as the Versa and offers a lot at a slightly higher price point.
