Being the best-seller from the Japanese automobile giant, the Nissan Rogue continues its trail of success for the latest model year too. The 2020 Rogue has seen zero recalls and 56 complaints to date, showing an improvement over its past couple of model years’ numbers. Among the complaints, the faulty automatic emergency braking system makes a fair share of them while a few other issues were also recorded. The 2020 Rogue starts at a price of $25,200 which puts it to direct competition with the Honda CR-V, the Mazda CX-5, and the Toyota RAV4.

Nissan Rogue user complaints and problems

Engine problems

  • Engine stalling: A single complaint was lodged regarding this issue. The owner stated that while getting out of a parking lot, the vehicle stalled.
  • Sudden acceleration: An isolated incident was reported regarding this problem. The complainant mentioned that after the vehicle was slowed down to park inside a garage, the engine revved up suddenly and accelerated. As a result, it went through the garage wall and crashed into a tree stump.

Safety problems

  • Automatic emergency braking system malfunction: The automatic emergency braking system of the Nissan Rogue is offered as standard but a malfunction with the system has been going on for quite some time now. Several owners of the 2020 Rogue complained about the system malfunctioning and almost risking their safety while driving. All the reports mentioned that the system would come on suddenly while driving and apply the brakes to their maximum. This resulted in abrupt halts out on the highways where there were high chances of the vehicles getting rear-ended.
  • Faulty brakes: A couple of complaints were recorded by the NHTSA regarding this issue. In one case the brakes of the vehicle were locked up for a few seconds before releasing and it happened while driving. In another case, the brakes of the vehicle caused the entire vehicle to jerk and shudder while in motion but the dealership was unable to find any issue.

2020 Nissan Rogue recalls

The 2020 Nissan Rogue has not faced any recalls to date.

Should you buy a used Nissan Rogue?

The Nissan Rogue is a feature-packed and value-for-money option in the highly competitive segment. In the recent past, the vehicle has faced some problems with the reliability of its standard automatic emergency braking system and the current 2020 model has also seen plenty of complaints about the same issue. However, the occurrences are limited and apart from that, the other areas of the vehicle have better reliability. In the used car lots, if you can find a well-maintained example from the 2019 or 2018 model years, perform a good and thorough inspection of the vehicle and you’ll be good to go. However, the models older than the 2018 model year have seen several complaints regarding the AEB system along with other powertrain issues as well. Going for those model years is not recommended.
