Looking back at the rich history of the Nissan Altima, it has been a consistent and steady seller from the brand and still remains undeterred in the wake of crossover supremacy. Crossing an impressive 300,000 units of sales, the 2012 Nissan Altima remains unchanged but has seen a slightly higher number of complaints from the owners than the last year’s model. There are close to 400 complaints along with 4 recalls against the sedan to date. The sedan was recalled 4 times for different issues which are transverse link issue, faulty airbag control unit, non-deployment of curtain airbags, and lose bolts of steering and suspension. Also, the NHTSA investigated the sedan for an airbag issue under the name of “Autoliv Airbag Propellant Mixture”. The powertrain and the safety systems are the two areas of the sedan which received the major number of reports from the affected owners. In its class, the Nissan Altima competes with the Kia Optima, the Toyota Corolla, and the Ford Fusion.

Should you buy a used Nissan Altima?
The Nissan Altima offers a solid package in the midsize sedan segment which includes characteristics such as a silent cabin, a handsome list of tech features, and athletic handling. However, the car offers a lesser amount of space at the rear than most of its peers. In the reliability department, the car has had some tough times but the impressive sales figure makes the number of complaints only a negligible percentage. However, there are a few issues that have seen no recalls yet such as the powertrain issues. A used model of the Altima would be a great option for the value it provides but get the vehicle inspected thoroughly before buying.
