Overview

There have been some iconic nameplates that have changed the way we look at automobiles. Some were tarnished with basic looks yet delivered exhilarating performance while tantalizing to the eyes and also won hearts behind the wheels. The Japanese automakers have excelled at packing their cars with the best of everything. With unmatched reliability, performance, practicality, and affordability, they have always been leaders in almost every class. Take Nissan for instance, which is highly renowned for affordable, economical cars. But the versatile automakers have some evident cars like GT-R and 370Z coupe too.

Buying Advice

The Sports trim appears to be the best pick, since it packs performance upgrades and makes the sports coupe more delightful in terms of handling. Else, choose the Sport Touring trim if you’re seeking a more approachable infotainment system and a few more driver-assistance features.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Today, we’ll discuss one of these titles, the 2020 Nissan 370Z coupe, which is an icon in the automotive world which still preaches lessons of affordable sports car performance. The 370Z was an evolved Nissan sports car since everything was redesigned from the previous 350Z. It is often challenged by the likes of the Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger, and Chevrolet Camaro. In this review, we’ll learn about the different traits of the Nissan 370Z Coupe. We’ll also compare it against the aforementioned classy rivals, and hence conclude if the 370Z is the ultimate package of thrilling rides, sporty looks, and interiors.

Features
7.0/10

The 2020 Nissan 370Z coupe can be availed in three distinctive trim offerings, namely the base, Sport, and Sport Touring. The base comes with a sticker price of $30,090 with a manual gearbox, while automatic can opt for an extra $1,400. Then comes the Sport which offers both gearbox options and at the top of the trim pyramid sits the Sport Touring with a price tag of $39,490 and is only available with the automatic transmission.

The base 370Z is heavily loaded with goodies such as 18-inch wheels, summer performance tires, automatic xenon headlights, LED running lights and taillights, keyless ignition and entry, a rearview camera, cruise control, automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, four-way manual front seats, cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped tilt-only steering wheel, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player and an auxiliary audio jack.

Upgrading to the Sport trim will fetch the buyers a limited-slip differential, upgraded brakes, a rev-matching downshift feature, 19-inch wheels, heated mirrors, chin and rear deck spoilers, and an eight-speaker Bose audio system. In the end, the range-topping Sport Touring adds leather and simulated suede upholstery, upgraded interior trim, a rear cargo cover, heated four-way power-adjustable seats (with adjustable lumbar for the driver), a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, navigation, a USB port, voice controls, Bluetooth audio connectivity, satellite radio, a media player interface, and the Bose audio system. Though it loses the Sport’s performance upgrades. The 50th-anniversary package is new for 2020, wherein the Sport trim gets shaved off the front lip and rear spoiler, and the addition of unique graphics and two-tone paint makes this 370Z coupe stand out from others in the lineup.

Fuel Economy
4.0/10

Sports cars are not the most influential when it comes to fuel economy. Similar is the case with the 2020 Nissan 370Z coupe, which with its 3.7L naturally aspirated engine offers EPA-estimated 17/26/20 MPG in city/highway/combined conditions. The automatic option improves the fuel economy to 19/26/22 MPG, hence should be the pick of buyers also looking for efficiency. The 370Z coupe also features a 19-gallon fuel tank that lasts for 380 combined miles with the manual option, while the automatic coupe stretches a little further to 418 combined miles on a single full fuel tank.

Surprisingly, the muscle car contestants are more efficient than the Nissan coupe. Since the Ford Mustang features the smallest displacement engine, it showcases the best economy followed by the Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro.

Interior
8.0/10

The 2020 Nissan 370Z coupe takes the occupants through a nostalgia trip blended with modern, functional bits, as one enters the cabin and takes one of the two limited seat options. The cabin flourished with basic character, yet highly sporty design. The seating is low though quite comfortable. Even getting in and out of the 370Z sports coupe is not a big challenge. The cabin is flourished with rubber and black plastic surfaces, yet it feels adorable with contrasting red accents spread inside the cabin, like red stitching, red stripes on the steering wheel, and more.

The upper trims offer leather and simulated suede upholstery to uplift the cabin’s aura. While drivers looking for more premium can opt for the 50thanniversary trim, which tags along various plaques and logos to attract the eyes. The cabin is slightly tight on small storage spaces. Even the rear cargo space isn’t the most practical design, despite being a hatchback style. The suspension and sloping rear hatch instigate limited cargo space, measuring just 6.9 cu-ft in volume, which is the lowest in its class.

The interiors of the 2020 Nissan 370Z coupe are spacious and airy but remain limited for a driver and his partner in crime. The visibility is spoiled with massive blindspots and low slung seats, while the cargo space is havoc, as compared to others in the same class. The Nissan sports coupe presents a sporty and admirable seating space, blended with some retro touches like a subtle driver’s display and three gauges on the top center of the dash. Overall, the cabin would be loved by the buyers. When it comes to the competitors, they all offer a seating capacity of at least four occupants. While also leading to better cargo space. Some of the standout interior features are as follows:

  • Tilt adjust leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls
  • Auto temperature control with in-cabin microfilter
  • Nissan intelligent key with push-button start
  • Auto-dimming IRVM with Homelink universal transceiver
  • 4-way power-adjustable front seat
  • Cruise control

What’s there to keep you entertained?

The 2020 Nissan 370Z coupe offers a wide array of infotainment features to keep the modern side alive. The center stack features 7-inch touchscreen infotainment though it misses out on essential features like inbuilt navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

The Nissan sports coupe tries to cover up for the absence with connectivity options like USB, AUX, Bluetooth, and more. Some of the highlights of the infotainment system are as follows:

  • 7" Touchscreen Infotainment system with Nissan Voice Recognition
  • SiriusXM radio with traffic and Weather subscription
  • Bose 8 Speaker Audio system
  • MP3/WMA/DVD playback
  • USB and Aux inputs
  • Bluetooth telephony and music streaming

Exterior
6.0/10

The 2020 Nissan 370Z coupe carries forward the most attractive sporty design in the modern-day automotive world. Such an appealing design can easily turn heads of eyes of all ages and genders. The charismatic small stance, with the coupe-ish sloping roofline, makes the 370Z look so sporty and agile. The front fascia hosts the same rectangular mouth and angular headlights with the Nissan badge placed just atop the grille. The wide fender flares and peculiar alloy wheel design look mesmerizing. The Nissan 370Z coupe looks striking with various paint color combinations, along with sporty stripes. Buyers can also opt for the 50thanniversary trim to stand out from the crowd.

The small and low ground clearance stance is hard to resist, especially once the Nissan 370Z wears a distinctive paint scheme. Contrary to others in the rival group, the 370 Z coupe is light, nimble, and agile. The small wheelbase makes it very sporty and athletic, as compared to the muscle car names that are ruling the straights. Some of the standout exterior features are as follows:

  • Auto on-off bi-functional HID Xenon headlights with LED DRL's
  • LED taillights
  • Heated ORVM's
  • Rear window defroster
  • 19" forged alloys by Rays
  • Rear spoiler

Safety
8.0/10

This car is fairly well built and is built to last for a very long time, which is to say that it is very resilient and crashworthy. While it has been a few years since the platform was launched, the old platform's safety features show through. 2020 Nissan 370Z boasts advanced safety features such as the Nissan Advanced Four Airbags system with dual-stage supplemental front airbags and seat belt and occupant classification sensors. Additional side-impact airbags are installed on the roof to protect the occupant's head. The 2020 Nissan 370Z coupe doesn’t compromise on safety and hence equips its sports coupe with a wide array of safety aids like :

  • 6 airbags
  • Vehicle dynamic control with traction control system
  • Active head restraints
  • Zone body construction with front and rear crumple zones
  • Hood buckling creases
  • Aluminum side-door guard beams
  • Tire pressure monitoring system

Competition
9.0/10

2020 Nissan 370Z Coupe vs 2020 Ford Mustang EcoBoost

Both the Ford Mustang and the Nissan 370Z have had a great history, a huge following of enthusiasts, magnetic looks. But both these rivals are very different when it comes to the feelings behind the wheels. The Mustang has impressive grunt, and the ability to pull off, while the 370Z coupe is more agile.

2020 Nissan 370Z Coupe vs 2020 Dodge Challenger SXT

The muscle car enthusiasts just love Dodge Challenger for its tire-smoking, and rumbling powertrain unit, along with retro styling. The Nissan 370Z coupe, on the other hand, is compact and portable, meant for enjoying both the straights and the twisties. Overall the decision is up to you, based on which type of machine you want to find yourself in.

2020 Nissan 370Z Coupe vs 2020 Chevrolet Camaro

The Camaro packs strong muscular looks with modern lines, which is loved by groups of all ages and genders. Same goes with the Nissan 370Z. Though they are very different on the road, both are highly engaging rides. The Camaro is more functional and practical thanks to its bigger size.

Final Verdict

We end our conversation on the 2020 Nissan 370Z coupe with the conclusion that it is one of the most iconic and remarkable sports coupes available in the market. But it isn't the best, as the likes of Miata and Supra have more to offer when it comes to being connected to the vehicle. The 370Z lacks in terms of infotainment and cargo space. But for the drivers that fascinate owing this sports coupe won’t mind these flaws since the sports coupe is such an attractive treat to the eyes.
