Overview

The 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Sedan is a compact sedan offered in 4 trims, starting off at a base MSRP of $15,295. For that price, it mainly competes with the Kia Forte Sedan, the Hyundai Elantra Sedan, and the Mazda 3 Sedan. Between 4 trims, the Lancer offers 3 powertrains. The base engine is a 2.0L Inline-4 capable of making 148 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque. A PZEV version of the same engine reduces the output by 5 horsepower and 3 lb-ft of torque. If more power is required, there is also a 168 horsepower-making 2.4L Inline-4 engine, and a 237 horsepower-making 2.0L Turbo Inline-4 engine is also available. That said, a 5-speed manual transmission, a continuously variable transmission, and a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission are offered on the 2012 Lancer which are coupled with engines with respect to the trim. The Lancer reaches 60 mph from zero in the range of 5.8 seconds to 9.1 seconds. Depending on the powertrain, the Lancer can manage a combined fuel economy between 19 and 28 mpg. While we're on the topic of choices, the 8 striking colors the Lancer comes in really pull you towards itself.

Buying Advice

We think the GTS trim, 2.4L Inline-4 engine, and the manual gearbox is the right combo. The whole arrangement worth $19,495 gives you a decent acceleration and fuel economy for the class. Furthermore, the Lancer GTS comes with a number of standard features including a rear spoiler, 6-speaker sound system, and an automatic climate control system.
