The Mclaren GT coupe is Mclaren’s take on a long-distance cruiser. The brand is known to produce cars with mind-bending acceleration that stimulates every neuron in the human brain. The GT is no different. The subtle design language is typical of Mclaren while the customizable interior soaks the driver in meticulously crafted leather upholstery and a great audio system. The suspension runs complex algorithms to not only react to the underlying road surface but also be proactive, which gives it an impressive ride quality. The cargo space behind the driver adds to the GT-ness, competing against the likes of the Bentley Continental GT, Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, and the Ferrari Roma. However, the $200,000+ price tag is not justified as the car doesn’t offer standard driver-assistance features and the long customizable options list can add a significant amount to the base price, appealing only to those with deep pockets.

2022 Mclaren GT UserComplaints and Problems

Electrical Problems

  • Infotainment - The infotainment system and software look and feel quite outdated. Some owners are frustrated due to it constantly freezing or performing poorly. The screen sometimes refuses to operate and hence important functions like AC controls can’t be accessed.
  • Dashboard warnings - The reliability of the brand has always been in question and the same trend is followed when a car with very few miles displayed a suspension error message, even though when checked afterward, there was no issue with the suspension
  • Air conditioning - According to one owner, even though the air conditioning system would be switched off, it still would function on its own. This can’t be controlled due to the unresponsiveness of the infotainment system.

Safety Problems

  • Airbags - The airbags were reported to have been improperly connected.

Miscellaneous Problems

  • Cargo space - The trunk is located above the engine. Due to this, it has been observed that the space gets quite hot and the things kept inside can also warm up.
  • Build quality - Few reports are suggesting that the car makes some noise even while it is static and the components used are not of optimum quality.
  • Buttons - Some buttons on the infotainment panel are too small to operate which causes the driver to look away from the road. At night, this issue aggregates, and due to the irresponsive behavior of the system, the overall experience becomes irritating.
  • Fuel tank capacity - The fuel capacity was reported to be insufficient for a grand tourer. The car also covered less distance and required constant refueling which increased the number of stops on a long journey.

Should you buy the 2022 Mclaren GT?

If someone is in the market for a Mclaren that they can daily drive then there is only one option, the Mclaren GT. It is a perfect blend of high performance, luxury, and comfort. However, reliability concerns, a high price tag, and less practicality render it less desirable. Therefore, it is harder to recommend over the rest of the competition which might be better at being a Grand Tourer, while also offering more reliability.
