The 2021 Range Rover Sport is Land Rover’s five-seater midsize luxury SUV. The Range Rover Sport has been in the market for more than a decade and is the smaller version of the regular Range Rover. The Range Rover Sport offers similar luxury, handling, and features at a much cheaper price tag.

But how does the Range Rover Sport fair in terms of reliability? The Range Rover Sport has had poor ratings in terms of reliability as the SUV has been known to have frequent mechanical problems. So here we take a look at some of the Range Rover Sport's problems in detail and see how it performs against its rivals like the 2021 BMW X5 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class.

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport User Complaints and Problems

Failure to inflate tires to the correct pressure.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Range Rover Sport vehicles equipped with 19-inch wheels. The tire inflation pressure label and the tire placard label state the incorrect tire pressures for the vehicle. Failure to inflate tires to the correct pressure could lead to loss of vehicle stability and control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will apply the correct labels, free of charge. The recall began on October 30, 2020. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-369-1000. Land Rover's number for this recall is N491.

Pressure monitoring malfunction

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Range Rover Sport vehicles equipped with 20-inch, 21-inch, or 22-inch wheels. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) recommended pressure has been set incorrectly in the instrument cluster. As a result, the TPMS warning light will not illuminate when tire pressure reaches 25% below the cold inflation pressure stated on the tire placard. Drivers may unknowingly operate the vehicle with low tire pressure, possibly causing tire tread separation, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems."

Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will update the instrument cluster software, free of charge. The recall began on November 2, 2020. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-369-1000. Land Rover's number for this recall is N494.

Seat belt malfunction may increase the risk of injury.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2021 Range Rover Sport. The seat belt automatic locking retractors may deactivate early, which can prevent the child restraint system from securing properly. An unsecured child restraint system can increase the risk of injury during a crash.

Dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed on October 20, 2021. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N630.

Should you buy the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport?

The Range Rover Sport is a great SUV that offers many interesting features and luxury. But what sets it back is its poor reliability ratings and an expensive price tag for its segment. Coming to its competition, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class is a better option if you're looking for an SUV that offers excellent performance and a luxurious interior while the BMW X5 is also a good choice as it nearly excels in every department. Overall, the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a decent option but it falls behind when it comes to reliability which can not be ignored.
