Discovery is Land Rover’s premium off-road oriented SUV with plenty of space. Along those lines, the 2019 Discovery is meant to be a competent family hauler with excellent interior spacing and premium vibes. Practicality is also strong and so is the new tech inside the cabin. But no matter how cool the vehicle is, it is still a Land Rover, which is not known for reliability. But then again, since not everyone can afford it, there are only 12 complaints registered on the NHTSA website and 3 recalls, as of now. Let us take a closer look at them. 2019 Land Rover Discovery comes with a starting price tag of $53,975 and competes against the likes of Volvo XC90, BMW X5 and Audi Q7.
User Complaints for the 2019 Land Rover Discovery
Engine and Mechanical complaints
- Engine – There is only one complaint where the owner claimed that the vehicle lost power and it failed to accelerate on the highway. The check engine light was turned on and so the vehicle was taken to the dealership where the fuel ignition and spark plugs were replaced. However, the problem still occurred even after the replacement. The manufacturer was contacted and the vehicle was brought back.
- Powertrain – A couple of owners complained that there was a certain lag between pressing the accelerator and the vehicle actually accelerating. This makes it very unsafe, especially on the highway during rush hour.
- Steering – One owner complained that while on the way to work, the steering suddenly became extremely heavy and tough to turn. The steering would still turn the wheels, but it would require vast amounts of effort. Also, they stated that there was no smell coming from the vehicle, no friction, no warning lights or noises.
Safety complaints
- Vehicle speed control – As we mentioned earlier, a couple of instances occurred where the vehicle would lose power in the middle of the road and the check engine lights would be illuminated. Also, there was a lag between throttle input and vehicle movement.
Structure
- Body/Structure – A couple of users complained that waterproofing was poorly done in the vehicle. They claim that water would enter their vehicle through the gaps in the windshield and would wet their dashboard, seats and the cabin. Another instance, although not related, stated that the vehicle’s rear door latch failed while in motion.
