Land Rover vehicles have been synonymous with off-roading for several decades now and the Discovery has spent more than two decades in the market as well. In the past and afterward, reliability has been a black spot in the face of Land Rover’s reputation but thankfully, the brand’s efforts to come out of it are evident from the 2021 Discovery’s reliability department. The current model has only 4 official complaints and 2 recalls whereas the previous year’s model has 5 recalls and 3 complaints. The numbers also indicate the consistency of the brand too. The recalls for the current model are unrelated to the complaints present for this model. Among the resorts filed by the owners of the 2021 Discovery, only two complaints mention a similar issue with the software of the powertrain while the other report mentions an issue with the powertrain’s starting procedure. The 2021 Land Rover Discovery rivals the BMW X5, the Audi Q7, and the Volvo XC90.
Land Rover Discovery user complaints and problems
Engine problems
- Reduced traction issue: Two complaints regarding the reduced traction issue are there with the NHTSA against the 2021 Discovery. The owners report that after covering a few thousand miles, the instrument cluster displayed reduced traction and drive with caution message while the traction was reduced to two wheels only. After taking the vehicles to the dealerships, faulty and unprogrammed software for the transmission was found to be the reason. It was further informed that initially the software was not configured for the standard 4WD layout of the SUV.
Electrical problems
- Engine failing to start: A single owner complains about an issue where the engine of his 2021 Discovery failed to start on multiple occasions. After repeated attempts to start the engine, the powertrain would start randomly after more than a couple of hours. The owner further complains that the door lock actuators started to malfunction while driving.
