The Infiniti QX70 is a commendable offering that sees a very athletic stance and an impressive exhaust note. The 2017 Infiniti QX70 is very similar to the QX60 but is more of a driver’s choice without compromising on the quality. The sad part is that the sales never picked up, with just 6,878 units sold last year. Though the sales have been low, people have come up with complaints that affect the ownership of the crossover. The most commonly reported issue is the engine stopping while driving. The affected units were diagnosed and the issue happened due to varying reasons.

Apart from this, there are several complaints regarding the backup camera shutting off and malfunctioning. The 2017 QX70 reliability rating isn't available by J.D. Power but it should fare well when compared to its rivals. Should you go for a QX70 despite these issues? Does the car stand up well against its rivals like the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque and the BMW X6? Read more to find out and check out the video by "MasterCarsPro" where all the known issues and problems have been listed.

2017 Infiniti QX70 Problems

Electrical issues:

  • Backup camera issues: Many people have reported the QX70 backup camera failing and causing issues while reversing. The camera switches off or gives out a very distorted image that makes it very difficult to maneuver the vehicle. To add to this, the backup sensors have malfunctioned in many cases and left reversing the car up to the driver’s best guess!
  • Electrical shut down: A handful of people report a complete electrical shutdown that disables everything. People claim the car shut down while driving at highway speeds. Such a shutdown affects the car’s pace and disables the power assistance to the different components. Although the issue isn’t widespread, it is communicated to the manufacturer and the NHTSA as a safety hazard.
  • Low headlight throw: On the QX70 equipped with LED headlights, the owners have reported the throw to be very low and definite. Unlike the rivals’ headlights, the QX70’s do not adjust for terrain and cause a lot of issues while driving at night.
  • Malfunctioning horn fuse: The QX70 horn fuse is prone to damage and disables the horn. People have reported the fuse blowing and causing smoke to enter the cabin. In some cases, the horn is enabled and cannot be shut down, causing major inconvenience and draining the battery.

Mechanical issues:

  • Fuel tank leakage: Many QX70 owners have reported the fuel tank coming loose and causing leakage. Though the leakage isn’t noticeable while driving, people complained of the smell when the car is standing. The fuel smell also made it to the cabin and caused nausea in the occupants.
  • Gear slippage: People have reported the transmission slipping to Neutral from Park and causing unintended movement when parked on a slope. This unintended movement has caused injuries to many people, including the occupants when they’re exiting the vehicle. One complaint reports serious injuries to the complainant’s spouse because the SUV rolled back onto him/her.
  • Brake failure: A handful of owners have reported the brake’s master cylinder to fail. This failure affects the braking ability of the crossover and reduces the braking capacity by a lot. The same issue happened with the QX60 as well and Nissan recalled the affected units under NHTSA Campaign Numbers 18V601000 and 19V807000.

Exterior issues:

  • Sunroof explosions: Many people have reported the sunroof exploding and shattering the glass inside the cabin. In some cases, the sunroof cover was on and did not let the glass enter, but else, it injured the occupants. People have reported that the explosions happened without any impact.

Safety issues:

  • Malfunctioning seatbelt pre-tensioner: A handful of people have reported the pre-tensioners malfunctioning and not restraining the occupants properly. This has led to grievous injuries in some cases and the occupant had to be hospitalized. The issue is communicated to the manufacturer and an investigation is on.
  • Malfunctioning Vehicle Speed Control (VSC): The VSC in the QX70 malfunctions and causes a surge in acceleration while the vehicle is on cruise control. Some people claim that their car braked without any object in proximity, at lower speeds, and startled the occupants.

2017 Infiniti QX70 Recalls

There have been no recalls for the 2017 Infiniti QX70 yet.

Should you buy the 2017 Infiniti QX70?

The 2017 Infiniti QX70 report card has been a positive story for many people. But some people have faced serious issues regarding several parameters. Although a remedy has been prescribed via manufacturer communications, the damage is already done to some people. That said, the available remedies are bulletproof, as reported by the owners, and clear any doubts arising whatsoever. If one wants to buy a pre-owned QX70, keep a close tab on the maintenance records and search for any electrical repairs done to the vehicle.
