Overview

The 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid fares well in the midsize sedan segment. Adding $4,455 to the price of the standard gasoline variant, the Sonata hybrid carries a base price of MSRP $25,650 and is offered in 2 trims, reaching a price of MSRP $30,550 for its top trim. The engine on service here is a familiar 2.4L inline-4 engine supported by an electric motor powered by a 1.4 kWh battery pack. Mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, it makes 199 horsepower. The combined fuel economy improves from 29 MPG on the standard gasoline variant to 38 MPG on the hybrid variant, making the increase in sticker price worth it. The performance of the Sonata hybrid remains at par with the gasoline variant, with the car accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds. Hyundai offers the same 6 colors for the Sonata hybrid. The Sonata mainly competes against the Ford Fusion Hybrid, the Kia Optima Hybrid, and the Toyota Camry Hybrid.

Buying Advice

The base trim is fair for shoppers on a budget and it's also nicely equipped in terms of features. However, those seeking the ultimate premium features should go with the top-tier Limited trim.

Great car to save money on Gas.

Pros - ["gas mileage low maintenance pick up speed", "Steering wheel controls for radio and cruise", "Spacious trunk roomy cab"]

Cons - ["Power windows faulty", "Lights not bright enough", "No aluminum wheels"]

Gas mileage is 36 city and 44 hi-way, which I have gotten 39 mpg in the city. Speed is amazing to the point that you don't even realize your doing 80 in a 60 mile an hour zone. Overall the car is reliable great on gas and has the electric motor that helps to save gas during longer excursions.

              A Decent Vehicle

Pros - ["I like the hybrid technology. It does improve fuel economy.", "I like the combined power if the hybrid electric and gasoline engines.", "I like the design of the exterior. I think the style remains current even after ten years."]

Cons - ["I don't like the accelerated depreciation of the overall Hyundai line.", "I don't like the brand reputation. There seems to be a lot of recalls and product defects that could cause serious damage to lives and property. Some Hyundai vehicles are uninsurable because of the ease of stealing the vehicle by thieves.", "Some of the interior finishes are cheaply constructed. My 2014 Sonata Hybrid Limited is garaged yet the windshield frame is cracked from heat exposure and the rear passenger seat cushion is warped over time."]

The 2014 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited is a great value for the price. However, the interior feels cheaply constructed and the front windshield frame has become cracked from exposure to the sun. Buyers expect better quality finishes and durable materials in a vehicle that cost in the mid 30-thousand dollar range. The 2014 Sonata Hybrid Limited is a vehicle that you trade in as soon as possible an...

Pros - ["Absolutely nothing.", "Again, nothing."]

Cons - ["Engine sucks", "It is a gas hog"]

I have a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. Which most people may know have recalls on the engines. I was one of the people who didnt know, until my engine blew up. It was replaced by Hyundai but now my car drives terrible since the replacement. Hyundais are all around terrible cars. I will never own another Hyundai.
