Overview

The Honda Civic is one of the renowned and one of the most popular nameplates in the US thanks to the various advantages it offers. Currently, in its 11th generation and 2024 avatar, Honda hasn't changed it much since its redesign back in 2022. Honda announced the change in prices and specs a couple of months ago and the 2024 Honda Civic is already available for sale in the market today. The regular sedan sees no changes this year but will get a new hybrid powertrain for both the sedan and hatchback models.

This Civic hybrid four-cylinder engine and twin-electric motor system is based on the Accord's powertrain. The Honda Civic 2024 price starts at $23,950 and there is also a 2024 Civic hatchback on offer with a starting price of $24,950. Honda has been at the forefront of releasing new model-year cars this year, and the Civic was one of its first releases. To have a closer look at the new 2024 Civic Sport, check out the video below by "Crazy Honda Chris" and find out if it is the right compact sedan for your needs.

Talking about the rivals, The 2024 Honda Civic goes head to head with its rivals like the 2024 Hyundai Elantra, the 2024 Kia Forte, the 2024 Mazda 3, and the 2024 Volkswagen Jetta. The Civic scores extremely well in terms of interior space, performance, exterior looks, and a range of powertrain options among various which makes it a lot of people's favorite. Honda is yet to announce the new 2024 Civic Type R, but we are hopeful that it is gonna be one of the quickest Type R models yet.

Buying Advice

The EX trim which sits just below the topmost variant, would be our pick from the Civic’s lineup, as with this, you get all the necessary comfort-oriented features and most importantly you get a more powerful yet efficient 180 hp producing turbocharged engine.

While the 2024 Civic EX is roughly $3,000 pricier than the base Civic LX model, it does add plenty more value for the added sum. This shall not only improve the user experience but also get you a better resale value in the future.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Currently in its 11th generation, The 2024 Honda Civic continues to dominate its segment by providing excellent driving dynamics, ride and handling balance, sharp looks, and whatnot as compared to its rivals. Offering the buyers with an option of sedan and hatchback, the Civic also offers you special sporty trims known as the Type-R.

Since the non-hybrid Civic is basically a carry-forward model, expect the 5-year cost of ownership to be the same as last year at around $31,000. The J. D. Power reliability rating of 82/100 is also expected to remain constant for the 2024 model year. All these figures put the Civic at the top of the pile with only the Nissan Sentra doing better.

Features
8.0/10

Engine and Performance
8.5/10

The 2024 Honda Civic comes in a range of engine options to choose from, right from a regular naturally aspirated engine to a turbocharged engine, and with the 2024 model, the Civic will have the addition of a hybrid powertrain as well. Potential buyers can choose depending on their priorities.

The exact specifications for the hybrid variant have not been released yet and we will keep you updated in this space once those are out. For people who are not enthusiastic about performance and just want to travel from place A to B conveniently, the Civic offers them a 2.0L Inline-4 naturally aspirated engine which is paired to a CVT transmission and puts out 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of peak torque.

Apart from that, if you want to have a fast machine, there is the 180hp producing 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine for you, which you can get starting from the EX trim itself, which is also the most recommended trim of the Civic according to us.

Comparing the 2024 Honda Civic with its rivals, most of them offer you a 2.0L inline four-cylinder engine paired with a CVT gearbox which feels rather lethargic including the Civic’s. But hold your breath for the 2024 Mazda 3 sedan which offers you the largest in the segment 2.5L Inline 4 Cylinder engine that produces a massive 191 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. It is not just the engine, but the Mazda 3 sedan’s amazing driving dynamics, which, due to its amazing chassis setup makes it capable of handling the engine’s phenomenal performance. Apart from that, it has the quickest 0-60 MPH timing by a huge margin with a timing of just 5.6 seconds as compared to other cars in this segment, which take a minimum of 8 seconds. The top speed of the Mazda 3 sedan stays the highest at 134 MPH.

2024 Honda Civic Ride and Handling

The 2024 Honda Civic has great driving dynamics and this has always been its strong advantage even if we talk about its previous generations or models. The 2024 Honda Civic continues to impress us with its sharp handling, communicative steering, and well-balanced ride, which makes it extremely fun to drive. Body roll is minimal, and the car feels easy to drive in the city. Talking about its suspension, it may not be as comfortable as some of its rivals out there due to its sporty behavior but it does a good job of soaking those bumps on the road. The front seats are also quite supportive, and hold you in place when you throw the Civic around the corner, which it absolutely loves!

Fuel Economy
8.5/10

Unlike most of the cars that give out lesser fuel economy in their performance-oriented spec version, it is totally the opposite for the 2024 Honda Civic. Not only does the 2024 Honda Civic's 2.0L naturally aspirated engine feel quite lethargic to drive paired with a CVT transmission, but it is also one of the least fuel-efficient engines in its segment.

That is where the more powerful and efficient 1.5L 4-cylinder Turbocharged engine comes into place. This engine produces a magnificent 180 hp of power and 177 lb-ft of torque while offering a fuel efficiency of 36 MPG combined compared to the base engine's 35 MPG. Although only a slight difference, in terms of MPG combined, the turbocharged engine provides a much greater range in all aspects.

Comparing the 2024 Honda Civic to its rivals in terms of fuel efficiency, it is the Hyundai Elantra that is the most efficient of all the cars in this comparison with a 35 MPG combined figure which is similar to the Civic, but the Elantra proves to be slightly more efficient on the highway. The 2024 Mazda 3 with its most powerful engine in the segment gives the least fuel efficiency at just 31 MPG, combined.

Interior
9.0/10

The interior of the 11th generation Honda Civic is a great place to be in and has always been its major advantage. And with the 2024 variant, it remains unchanged. The 2024 Civic boasts of roomy yet intuitive-to-use interiors which look great as well. You get a good view of what’s around you and it boasts of a comfortable seating capacity for 5 passengers, and space is not an issue for an average-sized adult.

You get this honeycomb pattern mesh design in the dashboard which looks neat and cleverly hides the AC vents. Apart from that, you get various features to make your drive in the Civic 2024 comfortable like adaptive cruise control, electric power steering, an electric sunroof, and a 7.0-inch or 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen system depending on the variants you opt for, among various other to make you drive a memorable one.

Comparing the 2024 Honda Civic to its key rivals in terms of interior space, it scores decently well. All the cars in the comparison boast of a seating capacity of 5 passengers and provide somewhat similar interior space. However, it is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra that has the most spacious front and rear row of all the cars in the comparison by a fair margin.

Some of the key interior features are:

  • Keyless ignition
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Single zone front climate control
  • Tilt and telescopic steering wheel
  • 2 one-touch power windows
  • Bucket front seats

How intuitive is the 2024 Honda Civic infotainment system?

The 2024 Honda Civic comes with the same infotainment system as the previous year's model. The base trims come with a 7.0-inch infotainment system that offers basic amenities like 4 speakers, 160-watt audio output, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, Speed sensitive volume control, SMS text message function, and other features. The higher trims of the 2024 Honda Civic come standard with a larger 9.0-inch infotainment system which has a total of 8 speakers, 180-watt audio output, and wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay to name a few. Both the systems offer a smooth experience, and Buyers also have the choice of a 10-inch dash integrated navigation system which may attract certain buyers, a Bose stereo system for amazing sound quality, and a wireless smartphone charging pad all of which are part of an optional package.

Key infotainment features are:

  • 9.0-inch infotainment system
  • Wireless Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay
  • 180-watt audio output
  • SMS text message function
  • Speed-Sensitive Volume Compensation (SVC)
  • Bluetooth HandsFreeLink

Exterior
8.5/10

The 2024 Honda Civic looks similar to the outgoing model with no significant changes as such on the exterior, and we have no complaints on that front. The 11th generation Civic looks stylish yet contemporary in our opinion, unlike the last generation which had too many cuts and creases running throughout its body. Talking of the current 2024 Honda Civic, you get all-LED headlights upfront standard across all the trims, and there is minimal chrome used in the front which we appreciate, however, buyers can opt for a chrome package as an option.

Overall the front look is clean yet sporty without any significant lines. Coming to the side profile, it has a stylish yet mature look and you get different alloy wheels in different tire size options depending on the trim you opt for, there is also a sunroof on offer along with various other features. The rear profile, complementing the overall design of the car is clean, simple yet stylish, and has amazing-looking tail lights, and reverse parking sensors among others.

Apart from that, it is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra which is the longest, widest, and tallest among all the cars here. Unfortunately, we do not have the exact ground clearance of the 2024 Honda Civic, and we will update this space once we know the exact figures. Till then, it is the 2024 Mazda 3 sedan that leads this parameter with a ground clearance of 5.5 inches, making it one of the most practical vehicles here.

Safety
9.0/10

The 2024 Honda Civic has proved its potential in the safety department by scoring a perfect 5 stars in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and complementing its rigid and strong body structure are a host of safety features and advanced technologies to ensure the driver and passengers a secure yet safe drive. Some standout safety features

  • Driver attention alert
  • Lane keep assist
  • Emergency braking assist
  • Tire pressure monitoring
  • Passenger airbag occupant sensing deactivation
  • Pre-collision safety system

Competition
8.5/10

2024 Honda Civic vs. 2024 Mazda 3

The 2024 Mazda 3 is the most powerful vehicle in its segment, it comes with a naturally aspirated and turbocharged engine and is miles away from its rivals in terms of performance numbers. Apart from that, it also boasts of great driving dynamics, some great interiors on the inside, and an AWD system, that helps it put the power down more appropriately. The 2024 Honda Civic is close to the Mazda 3 when it comes to the ride, handling, and overall driving dynamics but can’t match it in terms of performance.

However, the Civic is a cheaper car here and can be your pick if you do not want blistering performance from your vehicle. But look no further than the Mazda 3 in this segment if you want the best performance from your vehicle along with great driving dynamics. Also, both the Mazda 3 and the Civic come in both hatchback and sedan body shapes.

2024 Honda Civic vs. 2024 Hyundai Elantra

The Hyundai Elantra and Honda Civic have been arch-rivals for decades, and have been evolving ever since. The 2024 Hyundai Elantra is the car for you if you are looking for an automobile in the mid-size sedan segment that is loaded with features, has decent performance, a long list of features, and the reliability and trust of the Hyundai brand.

However, it might not be the best car for you in this segment if you are looking for great driving dynamics and the best performance out there. That is where the more expensive 2024 Honda Civic jumps into the picture and offers you better driving dynamics, performance, and even more space for the rear passengers. And hence, it would be our pick over the Hyundai if you want to bring alive your inner child!

Final Verdict

The Honda Civic has a great legacy added to its name and with the 11th generation 2024 model it very well lives up to that. It has a great ride and handling balance, excellent driving dynamics, sharp looks, a decent equipment list, great safety scores, and a roomy interior to make it almost the best sedan present in the market today and you would not go wrong with it if the above factors are on your priority list.

However, if you are looking for a more powerful sedan in this segment from the base engine itself, then the Mazda 3 should be your go-to choice as it offers a more powerful 2.5L engine which makes it the epitome of performance in its respective segment.

Pros - ["lane assitance", "push to start"]

Cons - ["window not tinted", "monthly payments"]

I am currently loving my car because its a push start, lane assitance, and you can't lock you keys i the trunk, and it has window keyless feature, also love the brake lock and automatic start when you stop so you save gas, and love the radio also becaue it has Carplay so you can see the navigation and music from your phone, and other compatable apps
