Overview

Counting in one of the best-selling sedans , the Honda Accord is a popular choice for shoppers. With twisty handling, this average compact crossover accomplishes versatile tasks. Unlike some hybrids of key rivals, the battery pack of the Accord Hybrid does not make the cargo feel confined–as it is tucked underneath the second-row seats. With a mere gap in price, the Hybrid ensures more power and better mileage– than a regular Accord. Besides enclosing an interior to easily accommodate four adults, this hybrid sedan secures combined mpg ratings of 47–thirty percent more than a gasoline Accord. A thorough set of driver-assistive features and an honorable infotainment system construct the vehicle as a lucrative alternative.

Buying Advice

If shoppers would ask for recommendations, CARHP guides them to go with the Sport trim as it is the best trim under $35k. Ahead of 4 speakers by default, this brings eight. 19-inch wheels, sporty pedals, LED foglights, and wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. When it's a matter of comfort, 12-way driver adjustable seats deal with it properly. With a suite of several safety features as standard, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and 2 USB charging ports for the rear passengers are the factors to consider over the base.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

For the 2022 generation and to replace EX-model, Honda has devised the Sport trim. Besides its usual styling, key features of the new Sport Hybrid trim include– LED Fog Lights and headlights, 19-inch wheels, sporty pedals, black rear spoiler, and Honda Sense that contains a package of several advanced driver-assistive features. The rest of the things have remained constant. A good cabin essence and adequately powered four-cylinder engine enable the vehicle to compete against the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, and the Toyota Camry Hybrid in the segment.

Features
8.0/10

This 2022 hybrid sedan from Honda consists of four trim levels. It starts with the Base, goes to the most popular Sport, then the EX-L, and the topmost version Touring. Besides the gap of several advanced features, all are composed of a 2.0L four-cylinder engine when matting with a hybrid system it renders 212 horsepower. It is only a front-wheel driven vehicle that ties a knot with a single-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Fuel Economy
6.0/10

When running on the default 17-inch wheels and reacting with the hybrid system, the 2.0L four-cylinder engine makes a combined mpg of 47 (48 in the city and 47 on the highways). With a standard fuel capacity of 12.8 gallons, this hybrid sedan manages a range of 614.4 miles when driving normally in the city, and 601.6 miles while running on the highways and combined. 19-inch wheels are wider and offer better grip than the usual ones, but are thirsty for more fuel– 44 mpg in the city, 41 on the highways, and 43 mpg combined. It results in range figures of – 563.2 miles when roaming around the city, 524.8 on the highway, and 550.4 miles integrated.

Compared to the Sonata, the Toyota Camry Hybrid delivers an extra mpg in city driving. Meanwhile, on the highways, the Sonata takes the charge by delivering the highest mpg. The 2022 Accord Hybrid has the lowest fuel economy and its fuel tank (shortest among all) serves the dullest range numbers. 2022 Camry Hybrid and 2022 Sonata Hybrid have fuel tanks of similar sizes. The highest range on the highways by Hyundai Sonata, and in the city by Toyota Camry.

Interior
8.0/10

The interior holds a satisfactorily spacious cabin. Four adults of average size easily find room in the front and second rows. Doors are of decent sizes to conveniently get in and out of the vehicle. As other mid-sized sedans are lower to the ground, it can be a little tricky for taller people. The Hybrid powertrain showers a peaceful driving experience, while when running on the sport mode the exhaust sounds fantastic. With a manual driver seat on the base, the EX-L brings heating function, while with added memory the Touring appears with Ventilated seats. Door panels on the rear get the usual soft-touch material with power window controls, while on the rear it showcases various seat adjustments. Door handles are finished with chrome trim giving more space to carry pieces of stuff underneath. Base trim brings a usual style steering column, things get better with Sport which proposes a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Controls over the steering are pretty tactile and furnish a satin black finish with them. The top version brings a heads-up display. The dashboard looks pretty clean and holds an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen display at the center–that supports Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Underneath, two AC vents take place and work with high decency. The trim on the dashboard has an option for the wood veneer. Controls under the touchscreen and on the center console are very well placed keeping the driver’s approachability in mind. The Center console brings a long-size armrest with generous material quality. It encompasses storage space for more practicality underneath. The Accord hybrid does not lose any storage space when bringing along electric motors with it. The total passenger volume of the Honda Accord Hybrid is 102,7 cu.-ft.

When looking around the front row seats, the 2022 Hyundai Sonata has the highest amount of legroom. The 2022 Honda Accord appears to have the highest cargo capacity in the comparison. The second row of the Accord hybrid possesses further leg and shoulder room than the Camry and the Sonata. The 2022 Camry Hybrid has the lowest space to carry cargo. Summing things up, there is no doubt claiming Accord has the most spacious cabin in its segment.

  • Cloth seat trims on lower trims
  • 8-way driver adjustable seat
  • 60-40 front folding rear seats

How Intuitive is the 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid’s Infotainment System?

An 8-inch infotainment touchscreen by default across all trims supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto– wireless functionality starts as standard from the Sport model. The infotainment display serves a bright and attentive nature. The instrument cluster is fully digital, and popping colored controls over it provides an easily readable menu. Base trims do not boast a navigation system, but it works well on other trims. Physical button controls are easily reachable and are not confusing to use. The basic Hybrid gets a 4-speaker audio system, while the Sport holds 8, and EX-L and Touring are composed of ten speakers to enhance the audio quality. The safety system works well, but sometimes it gets too responsive. Voice commands need correction to work the exact task asked to do.

Highlights of the infotainment system –

  • 8-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Fully digital instrument cluster
  • 4-speaker audio on the base trim
  • 8-speaker on Sport and 10 speakers on EX-L and Touring
  • 2 USB Charging ports in the rear
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity on premium trims
  • Clock and voice activation
  • Navigation system
  • HondaLink subscription services
  • SiriusXM service
  • Integrated roof antenna
  • 2LCD monitor in the front
  • Radio data system
  • Speed compensated volume control
  • Steering wheel controls

Exterior
7.0/10

The exterior impressions of the Accord Hybrid mimic the regular Accord. A classic-looking design with a sloping roof that very well merges with the rear portion of the car. The front hood consists of a 2.0L four-cylinder engine. The hood cover holds a little straight line element that is barely visible in white shade. The basic and EX-L boast five different color pallets for the exterior, while the Sport and the Touring trims bring 6. The front fascia holds a grille of horizontal strips fully furnished in chrome accents. The Honda mascot mergest at the top strip–thicker than usual ones. Front LED headlights shine very well and are nicely integrated– LED fog lights from the Sport version. Front parking sensors are parked where the grille ends. Standard 17-inch alloy wheels are tied up with tire dimensions of P225/50VR17–19-inch wheels on the remaining trims. The side profile looks sleek and elegant with auto-dimming outside rearview mirrors finished with a body-colored theme. Window trims are surrounded with black cladding–chrome on the higher models. Besides the tail lights, the rear portion is clean and only contains Accord badging on the left and Honda’s logo at the center.

Carrying a difference of a pound, the Sonata and the Accord are hybrid sedans with similar curb weights. The Camry is the heaviest hybrid vehicle on our list. Accord has more height from the ground than the other two.

Safety
9.0/10

This vehicle can be the safest hybrid sedan on the market, as it delivers overall safety ratings of 5 stars– it also scores five stars in other crash tests done by NHTSA. An array of tons of standard safety features enhances the safety. Still, Honda asks for more money for parking sensors, Blindspot monitoring, and Rear cross traffic alert. Standard Adaptive Cruise Contol is an intelligent system that scans the speed of the vehicle moving ahead of the Accord and automatically adjusts the brake pressure and pace. The Collision Mitigation Braking System alerts the driver if it detects a pedestrian or vehicle in front. When the most weight shifts to the front wheels during braking, the Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) provides a great deal of traction.

Ahead of the features explained above the following are some more to make you feel seated in a safe vehicle–

  • Lane departure warning accidents avoidance system
  • Pre-collision safety system
  • Post-collision safety system
  • Dual-stage driver and passenger front airbags
  • Front and rear head airbags
  • Airbag occupancy sensors
  • Electronic stability control
  • ABS and driveline traction control
  • Child seat anchors
  • Rear door child safety locks
  • Emergency braking assist
  • Tire pressure warning
  • LED Headlamps
  • 2 front head restraint
  • 3 rear head restraints
  • Rear center 3-point belt

Competition
8.0/10

  • 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid vs. 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

The Sonata Hybrid costs lesser, but also brings less power output. The Accord appears with more power and good acceleration but stands way behind in terms of fuel economy. Both hybrid sedans are of the same weight, but the Accord brings a longer body and more cargo capacity. The Hyundai Sonata has a bit larger wheelbase. The rear seats of the Accord have more room to sit. Both have decent 8-inch infotainment touchscreens, but the layout of Sonata is more on the polished side. Significantly of the same exterior approach, the Honda is with straight hood and slanting roofline, while the Sonata seems to carry more longer and curvaceous look with it.

  • 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid vs. 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid

2022 Hybrid Camry costs a few hundred dollars extra and brings a bigger engine– the surprisingly shorter engine of the Accord makes more horsepower. The Honda Hybrid is lightweight and faster, while the Camry’s more curb weight makes it a bit slower vehicle. With more reliability, the Toyota Camry brings more ground clearance. The 2022 Accord Hybrid possesses bigger calipers in front while the same thing happens with the 2022 Camry Hybrid in the rear wheels. On standard, the Honda offers 17-inch wheels, while the Toyota fetches 16-inch. The dashboard of the Honda Accord has a more modern approach while the materials on Camry’s dash look dated. Both have significantly different choice-driven styling.

Final Verdict

Very few cars are there, which delivers a proper value for money package. The 2022 Accord Hybrid is one of them. Acceleration is satisfactory on Sport mode and holds a suite of driver-assistive and safety features that lacks in other rivals. Interior space is great with segment-leading cargo capacity. The infotainment touchscreen works well, but voice activation is a little lethargic. Seats are properly padded and have heating and ventilation functions on upper models. If shoppers are looking for a fuel-efficient hybrid sedan, then Hyundai Sonata and the Toyota Camry are better alternatives. Ahead of the modern-looking curvaceous exterior, the interior of Sonata Hybrid looks more refined. The Toyota Camry is more reliable.
