Nice looks truck and interior looks pretty good but mechanically this thing sucks. I have 545 miles on truck and already has to go to the dealership for transmission issues. The truck likes to jerk when coming to a stop and hunts for gears when driving. I should had done my research before purchasing.Read More

The GMC Canyon is essentially an upscale version of the Chevrolet Colorado mid-size pickup truck. The Canyon is a fairly great option if you're looking for a pickup truck that has both powerful performance and great towing capacity. Although the Canyon does attempt to deliver on all fronts, there are other options in the segment that might offer more for much less.

But what are the problems with the 2022 GMC Canyon Crew Cab? To answer that here we take a detailed look at some of the user complaints and recalls.

2022 GMC Canyon Crew Cab User Complaints and Problems

Engine and Mechanical Problems

  • Engine - An owner complained that the rear extended door dashboard icon and dome light would turn on while driving. The owner also added that it could only be corrected by closing the rear extended door hard before driving the automobile.
  • Steering - Another owner complained that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle started to shake and vibrate from the front tires. Additionally, the steering wheel and steering column were also vibrating. The owner also stated no warning light was illuminated. The owner drove the vehicle to a local dealer, however, the vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired.
  • Powertrain - According to one Canyon owner, they were having issues with the power train and transmission.

Exteriors Problems

  • Exterior lighting - An owner complained that the headlights/taillights get foggy to the point where you cannot see the lights.
  • Structure - Another owner complained that the door won't shut properly. They also added that the exhaust had a hole in it.

Improperly welded seat

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2022 GMC Canyon vehicles equipped with a manual passenger seat. The front passenger seat may have a hook attachment that was not properly welded, allowing it to separate from the inboard track of the seat frame. An improperly welded seat frame may not properly restrain the seat occupant, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

The dealer will inspect the front passenger seat and replace the cushion frame, if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on July 11, 2022. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N222368320.

Should you buy the 2022 GMC Canyon Crew Cab?

The 2022 GMC Canyon Crew Cab is a great option in the segment as it delivers in almost all fields. The Canyon’s strongest feature is its performance as its diverse engine lineup helps deliver exceptional ride quality with great handling. The towing capacity offered is also decent. With that being said, it also faces tough competition in the segment. The 2022 Chevrolet Colorado might be a great option against the Canyon as it offers pretty much the same features but at a much lower price tag. Overall, with only one recall and fairly few complaints, the Canyon proves to be reliable and it also offers great performance along with an upscale cabin over its competitors, although at a higher price.
