Overview

The 2024 Genesis GV80 is a midsize luxury SUV offered in 3 trims, starting off at a base MSRP of $57,000. For that price, it mainly competes with the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, the 2024 Volvo XC90, and the 2024 BMW X5. Between 3 trims, the GV80 offers 2 powertrains. The base engine is a 2.5L turbocharged inline-4 capable of making 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. If more power is required, there is also a 375 horsepower-making 3.5L turbocharged V6. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The GV80 reaches 60 mph from zero in 6.4 seconds on its base engine, which gets pumped up to 6 seconds with the V6 engine. Depending on the powertrain, the Genesis GV80 can manage a combined fuel economy between 20 and 22 mpg. While we’re on the topic of choices, the 11 striking colors the GV80 comes in really pull you towards itself.

Buying Advice

Each Trim of the GV80 is carefully designed to appeal to the respective customer segments, but we recommend you go for the base GV80 as it already has a lengthy list of standard features, along with a gas standard suspension setup is pretty comfortable on its own. The base turbocharged model has a pretty responsive engine and has enough power for all occasions.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2024 Genesis GV80 starts at just under $58,000 and the base 2.5 T variant comes with a Turbocharged 2.5 Liter 4 cylinder that makes 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque and needs just 6.1 seconds to reach 60 mph and can easily 140 mph +. GV80 can easily accommodate up to 5 passengers and has an AWD as standard ensuring grip on all surfaces. Those looking for a little more grunt can check out the hotter V6 variant that starts at just under $82,000.

Features

The Velar is the least powerful with just 247 hp, but also costs less than the BMW X5 and Mercedes GLE, offering 375 and 255 horsepower respectively. The Genesis, on the other hand, cost the least of the bunch and offers the highest price-to-horsepower ratio. The GV80 is also the fastest of the bunch with a 149 mph speed limiter.

2024 Genesis GV 80 Ride and Handling

The Genesis offers a pliant and insulated riding experience, even the base gas-charged suspension setup is pretty excellent when it comes to on-road manners. The GV80's ride is cozy and secure, the NVH is class-leading, to say the least. Riding comfort is further enhanced by the optional electronically controlled suspension that comes with a prestige package and reads the road ahead to make the necessary changes to the suspension well in advance, much like mercedes benz's magic vision control. The steering has enough feedback, and the GV80 feels planted in corners at most speeds. The AWD along with LSD ensures unparalleled grip in all situations.

2024 Genesis GV 80 Braking Performance

The braking has always been a strong suit of the Genesis GV80 despite, a significant 4815 curb weight. There is highly advanced ABS on all 4 wheels. The discs are ventilated to ensure optimal temperatures and performance. Hill Descent Control and Hill hold control are also present as an additional safety net when going down a steep decline. The front rotors measure 14.2 inches as do the rear rotors. The optional package can also add monobloc calipers which aid in efficient braking.

The 2024 Mercedes GLE has the largest front brake size of the lot, at 14.8 inches, conversely the Range Rover has the most miniature discs at 13.8 and 12.8 inches but also tips the scales at just 4130 pounds. The BMW X5 has got M Compound brakes as standard, but the size is not available needless to say, BMW X5 just might stop on a dime given its sporting pedigree. Genesis GV80 again wins due to its near-perfect braking prowess and fade-resistant brakes.

Fuel Economy
7.5/10

Thanks to its massive 21.1-gallon gas tank, Genesis manages an impressive 506 miles of highway range, and a respectable 422 miles in the city for a combined mpg of 464 miles. The GV80 takes a slight hit on the MPG figures due to its powerful engine, and subsequent enhanced fuel consumption and heavy curb weight. However, buyers can get a slightly better fuel economy by putting the GV80 in comfort mode when required.

Surprisingly, The BMW with its RWD-only configuration offers 23 mpg for city and is tied with Mercedes GLE with 27 mpg when it comes to highway cruising and has the highest combined mpg at 25. The GLE also has the most highway cruising range with 607 miles but is tied with the GV80 at 20 mpg city figure. The Velar with its lighter curb weight is the winner of the lot and has and offers a respectable 23 mpg of combined mpg.

Interior
9.9/10

All the cars that GV80 goes up against are appointed for plenty of opulent and comfort-oriented features, but Genesis takes the cake with its affordable price tag and exceeds the comfort and convenience that that it rivals provide. It has a massive 84 cu ft of storage space behind the second row, while the Range Rover Velar follows closely with 70 cu ft as a result, the GV80 wins hands down in Interior comfort and style.

Some of the key interior features available with the 2024 Gensesis Gv80 include:

  •  Genuine Wood Instrument Panel Insert
  •  Genuine Wood Door Panel Insert,
  •  Genuine Wood Console Insert
  • Panoramic Sky Roof
  • Optional Air suspension

How intuitive is the 2024Genesis GV80’s infotainment system?

As standard, the GV80 comes with a 14-inch infotainment display along with a thumping 12-speaker system. Buyers who are worried about taking the hand of its multi-functional steering wheel can use the rotary dial on the center console to control the infotainment as well. Every GV80 also comes with wireless charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot wired to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and three years of complimentary Genesis Connected Services. Buyers can upgrade their infotainment to a rich-sounding Lexicon system, available as an option. Also available is a 3d screen that uses cameras to detect eye movements and can alert the driver in case drowsiness is detected.

Some of the most notable infotainment features available with the 2024 Genesis GV80 are-

  • 21 -a speaker Lexicon system
  • Head up display
  • Surround View Monitor
  • Active Noise Cancellation
  • Real-time traffic updates.
  • 14.5-inch touchscreen

Exterior
9.9/10

Thanks to healthy use of sound deadening and high-quality materials the GV80 weighs a cumbersome 4815 pounds, which is ideal for NVH but bad when it comes to handling. However, thanks to its well-thought-out weight distribution and AWD the GV80 excels in both.GV80 is the lengthiest among its peers coming in at 194.7 inches and offers a decent ground clearance of 8.1 inches.2024 GV80 has the second smallest height at 67.5 inches, which makes ingress and egress a breeze. Buyers will appreciate its rich color options and contrast grille with silver chrome accents that can be blacked out along with window surrounds, depending on the trim level.

We suspect, the BMW to be lightest of the lot due to its RWD only nature. Conversely, the GLE is the heaviest of the bunch and comes in at 4916 pounds. In terms of design, all the SUVs are pretty well penned down, but GV80 manages to blend traditional and modern design elements in one very enticing package, making it a no-brainer choice.

Some standout exterior features include:

  • 21-inch wheels
  • Silver Chrome Exterior elements
  • Blacked out Window Trim
  • Blacked out door handles
  • Tinted Glass
  • Signature twin-stripe headlights
