With classy looks, fun-to-drive characteristics, and a lot of options, there is a 2019 Ford Fusion hybrid for everyone. However, this unique vehicle has suffered a bad reputation in terms of reliability and has to have serious changes to redeem itself. With 58 complaints relating to catastrophic engine, transmission, battery and safety problems, there are a few red flags. Starting at an MSRP of $28,995 without options, it can be considered an expensive car in a segment that includes the Hyundai Sonata hybrid, the Honda Accord hybrid, and the Toyota Camry hybrid. All these cars have a better reputation but let us see how serious the 2019 Ford Fusion hybrid problems have been. The "HOWSTUFFINMYCARWORKS" highlights the steering gear motor have crashed in the 2nd gen Fusion models alongside clutch slips. To know more, click on the video below:

2019 Ford Fusion hybrid User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical problems:

  1. Few users had problems in which the car produced abnormal noises along with excessive tailpipe smoke and fuel odor. The issue is that the engine blocks are made of two different types of metals that cause the engine to cool down at different rates. This causes leaks and engine failure in some cases.
  2. Another common engine problem is that the flex plate sometimes cracks and causes engine replacement in many cases.
  3. Several users have had the steering wheel coming loose and moving up and down. This happens due to a bolt that is defective under the steering wheel cover. Other users have had the vehicle automatically steering to one side and hitting road barriers.
  4. There have been Ford Fusion hybrid transmission problems in which the transmission shifts erratically and sometimes fail to choose the right gear. The manufacturer refuses to acknowledge this issue. Some users have had the transmission rebuilt several times and the issues do not seem to go away.
  5. Some owners have had the Ford Fusion hybrid engine light coming on due to the canister purge valves not working correctly. This is one of the common problems.
  6. One more owner has reported an issue with uncontrolled acceleration. Even when the owner was pressing the brakes, the vehicle accelerated by itself and hit a tree.
  7. Although rare, there are a few Ford Fusion hybrid brake problems as well. Users have had the pedal completely losing vacuum pressure and going straight to the floor.

Electrical system problems:

  1. Although very rare, there are a few 2019 Ford Fusion hybrid battery problems. These may include the hybrid system not being able to supply sufficient power., The car not starting, the dashboard saying that full accessory mode is active, the transmission not being able to shift, and so on.

Safety problems:

  1. Several users have complained that the windshield wipers in this car do not function fast enough to clear water when it is raining heavily.
  2. One owner has complained that while the person was driving on the highway, the car was involved in a collision. However, the airbags failed to deploy and the driver, as well as the passenger, had a lot of injuries. There are multiple complaints regarding the same issue.
  3. The cruise control system is also known to be a problematic one because many users have had inconsistencies with vehicle behavior. It also indicates speeds that are lesser than what it actually is and users have got speeding tickets because of the car’s fault.

Miscellaneous problems:

  1. One user has complained that the trunk opens by itself and this causes a serious security problem.
  2. One user has complained that the headlights of the car are not bright enough.
  3. There have been several complaints regarding the manufacturer not being able to respond in time regarding recalls. Even though several customers had received a call to bring in their car, they could not get the necessary repairs done on time.
  4. Few owners have reported that the windshield cracks without any external impact.
