The 2014 Chrysler Town and Country has been a good seller and has clocked its highest ever sales number of 138k units this year. The rise in demand also propels the complaint numbers of a vehicle, which was the case with this midsize van as well. Although the recall number did get dropped by one to just 3 this year, the complaint numbers seem to remain more or less consistent with over 500 recorded officially by the NHTSA. An ongoing investigation of a possible cabin fire is also something we would like to highlight here. The Chrysler Town and Country, with its starting price of $30,765, has always been a viable option against rivals like the Dodge Grand Caravan, the Honda Odyssey, and the Toyota Sienna. But do the existing problems affect its overall appeal? To get an idea about this, let’s take a look at all the issues that owners have been facing with this van.
2014 Chrysler Town and Country Van User Complaints and Problems
Mechanical Complaints
- Engine problems- Oil leaks from the oil filter housing is a common problem seen in the 2014 Chrysler Town and Country. Many owners have reported on visible oil leaks on the engine bay and related components emitting visible fumes with a risk of fire. The average mile of this failure is reported to be around 90,000-miles. No instance of engine fire has been recorded against this issue by the NHTSA fortunately.
- Transmission problems- Transmission replacements are not that uncommon in the 2014 Chrysler Town and Country. Fluid pump failure, internal valve issues, TCM module errors, and torque converter issues are some of the main complaints reported by owners. Whining/grinding noise, miss-shifts, failure to upshift, and jerking at low speeds are some precursors to transmission complaints. Shifting issues are usually sorted by re-programming the control module but mechanical issues do mostly require a complete overhaul or replacement. The lowest failure mileage as reported by NHTSA is around 60,000-miles.
Electric System complaints

Structural complaints
- Sliding door issues- The passenger side sliding door latch on the 2014 Chrysler Town and Country is prone to malfunction. As reported it either fails to latch on completely or fails to unlock. Owners also notice the door actuator humming or going through the lock-unlock cycles continuously. The issue is primarily due to faulty door actuators and requires a replacement.
Safety Complaints
- Headrest deployment issues- The headrest deployment feature on the 2014 Chrysler Town and Country is said to be faulty. Owners report about the unit deploying itself without any warning. This has been a pretty widespread issue on the van with no statements released from the automaker’s side despite being reported multiple times by many owners. Should you buy a used 2014 Chrysler Town and Country Van?
TheChrysler Town and Country has always been a prominent player in the midsize van segment and the noticeable jump in the number of buyers each succeeding year backs that claim. It does have its fair share of complaints but most of them listed here are only expected to come by at higher mileages. However, some common faults like the random engine stalls and door actuators issue not receiving the kind of attention it requires from the automaker side is truly a bummer. Also, the recent cabin fire investigation (highly unlike even though) does slightly tarnish its appeal as a used buy. Though the last stated fact does take this van off from our recommendation lists, the Chrysler Town and Country is a decent van to own especially given the absence of any known low-mileage failure points.
