Overview

The 2012 Chevrolet Cruze Sedan is a compact sedan offered in 4 trims, starting off at a base MSRP of $16,800. For that price, it mainly competes with the Toyota Corolla Sedan, the Hyundai Elantra Sedan, and the Honda Civic Sedan. Between 3 trims, the Cruze offers 2 powertrains. The base engine is a 1.8L inline-4 engine capable of making 136 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque. If more power is required, there is also a 138 horsepower-making 1.4L inline-4 engine. Both engines are mated to a six-speed manual transmission. A 6-speed automatic transmission is optional on all trims and standard on the top-line LTZ trim. The Cruze reaches 60 mph from zero in 9.5 seconds on its base engine, which gets pumped up to 9.2 seconds with the 1.4L inline-4 engine. Depending on the powertrain, the Cruze can manage a combined fuel economy between 29 and 30 mpg. While we're on the topic of choices, the 8 striking colors the Cruze comes in really pull you towards itself.

Buying Advice

If fuel economy is your top priority, go for the ECO trim since it returns a commendable fuel economy of a combined 33 mpg, all thanks to the weight reduction. However, if it’s luxury that you crave, the top-level LTZ trim is most likely to be the best package for the money. The LTZ trim adds some top-notch features like leather upholstery, rear park assist, 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, a sunroof, premium interior trim, and a few more. Further aesthetic improvements to the exterior can be done by opting for the RS appearance package just for an additional $595.

              Chevy Cruze

Pros - ["Gas mileage", "Interior design"]

Cons - ["Power loss with AC running", "Small engine"]

Overall it's a good car especially if your first car. Interior is designed for comfort and radio, air/heat controls within easy reach. Seats are comfy whether front or back so it's good for long drives. Engine seems to bog down some when using the AC on hot days. If a V-6 engine is available I would go for it. Overall out of 10 stars I'd give it 7 stars. Good on gas mileage and comfortable inside...
