Overview

Audi, as a car manufacturer, focuses on advanced technology and improved features which are directly reflected in today’s e-tron models. The Q4 e-tron model from the popular brand is not just another casual agenda to stand against environmental pollution and the SUV brings in a lot of comfort, reliability and technical benefits for the driver. The main aspect of the car is to provide better riding dynamics and at the same time offer better fuel efficiency in the competitive market of electric SUVs. Audi shares its supremacy in the luxury automobile market with other German brands like Mercedes and BMW.

There are some notable rivals in the market like the Hyundai IONIQ 5 SUV, the Volkswagen ID.4 and the Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV among others that tend to offer similar or even better performance and features to pose serious threats to the 2023 Q4 e-tron from Audi.

Buying Advice

The 2023 Q4 e-tron Premium Plus 50 trim has a considerably high price tag compared to the base trim but it has several additional features to be deemed as the best option here. We recommend the Premium Plus 50 not despite its high cost but due to the premium quality sound system and infotainment unit along with the additional safety features and the ever-resourceful Audi Connect PLUS. However, the price might be too much of an issue and one can always consider going for the Premium trims especially the 40-grade model but the recommended trim will provide the most exclusive experience in driving and offer exclusive style as well.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The Audi e-tron was primarily limited to sport sedan and expensive SUV models only but the introduction to the Q4 e-tron SUV turned the table in the market. The 2023 Q4 e-tron is a compact electric SUV that is influenced by the previous e-tron SUVs but is able to offer the almost same services at a much lower price. More interestingly, there are now 40 models available with the trims along with the 50 models from its inaugural previous year. The convenient features and the handful of technologies are not the only improvements for the 2023 model as it has updated the range by almost 25 miles in the 40-grade trims. However, there are some notable rivals in the market like the Hyundai IONIQ 5 SUV, the Volkswagen ID.4 and the Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV among others that tend to offer similar or even better performance and features to pose serious threats to the 2023 Q4 e-tron from Audi.

Features
9.0/10

The 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron SUV has a total of five distinct trims which is one of the biggest improvements from the previous year model. The trims include the 40 models and the slightly upgraded 50 models for the compact SUV. There are three primary segments and the two types of models are included in Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige segments. However, the 40 models are only available under the Premium and Premium Plus ones while the 50 models can be found in any of the three segments. Premium Plus and Prestige are obviously the more expensive ones and they come with a lot of additional features as well.

Engine and Performance
7.5/10

The engine performance of the base trim is not very impressive for the Audi Q4 e-tron SUV when it comes to the competitive market. Most of the primary rivals have better figures in almost all the parts of the engine segment. The electric engine of the Q4 e-tron comes with a rear-wheel drivetrain but an all-wheel drivetrain is also available for the 2023 Audi SUV. It comes with a 1-speed automatic transmission similar to all its rivals. The overall power generated from the engine is only 201 HP while the torque produced is 229 lb.-ft for the 2023 Q4 e-tron.

The 2023 e-tron SUV from Audi has a mediocre acceleration that takes 7.9 seconds to reach 60 MPH from 0 and the top speed of the vehicle is only 99 MPH. Among the rivals, only the Volkswagen ID.4 has a similar power output and all the other competitors offer better engine performances. Most of the rivals have better acceleration than the Audi Q4 e-tron Premium as it is notable that the other expensive trims have better figures in this segment. The engine section might not be the best area for the Audi SUV to showcase its uniqueness but it does have satisfactory performance and it offers a pretty good deal at a competitive price tag.

Ride and Handling

The riding experience of the Q4 e-tron SUV from the 2023 Audi might not be the best in the competition but it certainly is good enough to be considered a significant option. The engine performance is mediocre but the stability is excellent. The battery capacity, range and quick charging allow a driver to ride on long roads without worrying too much and the comfortable interior makes it easier as well. The suspension of the electric SUV is well-balanced compared to its previous versions but for the drivers who are known to push their vehicles through the corners, the Q4 e-tron might seem a little disappointing. The optional AWD drivetrain offers better control and adaptive cruise control makes it even better for the passengers despite uneven terrains.

Braking Performance

The braking performance of the 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron SUV is generous as it offers stable braking and deceleration for the SUV. The front wheels are equipped with disc brakes while the rear ones are available with drum brakes and the anti-lock braking system is standard for all the trims of the Q4 e-tron SUV. The most attractive feature of the braking system is the regenerative braking ability that offers a good amount of energy from the braking. It simply allows the electric motor to recuperate a percent of the energy spent to affect the deceleration and stopping of the vehicle.

The one-pedal driving is relatively smoother for the 2023 Audi SUV and it affects the braking performance as well. The 3 levels of stored regenerative energy from the braking system offer better control during the deceleration and the max setting included in the system allows the SUV not to come to a complete stop like most other similar cars. The Ford Mustang Mach-E has the largest brake rotors and the weight is lower than both the Audi and Volkswagen which results in considerably better braking performance. However, the overall braking system is efficient and it helps the driver to maintain the rhythm of riding while going on city roads. The primary competitors have similar braking efficiency and most of them have regenerative braking as well. However, the stability and reliability of the Q4 e-tron while braking is commendable.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

The Q4 e-tron SUV from the 2023 Audi does not fare well in the fuel economy section when compared to its biggest market rivals. The SUV offers standard mileage but is overshadowed by most of its competitors especially the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Ford Mustang Mach-E. The efficiency of the Audi Q4 e-tron on city roads is 100 MPGe while on the highways it has a figure of 89 MPGe only. The combined mileage of the 95 MPGe is the lowest in the market and even the Volkswagen ID.4 from 2023 has a slight advantage over the Audi SUV in this segment.

The battery capacity of the Audi Q4 e-tron from 2023 is the highest among the competitors as it has a figure of 82 kWh and the range of the SUV is impressive as well. The 265 miles of range from the 2023 Audi SUV is only beaten by the 2023 Ford Mustang with a range of 270 miles. All the other rivals have a much lower range and all of them have much lower battery capacity as well. The mileage does not seem too attractive but the range of the SUV is excellent and the higher battery capacity certainly helps on long roads.

Interior
8.0/10

The standard seating capacity of 5 people in the Audi Q4 e-tron along with its adequate cargo capacity make the compact SUV a good bargain in the competitive market. The 8-way power driver seat and the 4-way power lumbar support for both the driver and passenger seats offer better comfort on rough terrains. The multi-tilt telescoping column of the steering and its touch sensitivity is another great aspect for better adjustability as well as smoother control. The metal look improves the attractiveness of the steering while the leather increases the comfort for the driver. Standard features like a dual-zone automatic air condition system and air filtration provide a pleasant atmosphere inside the cabin and the creature comfort is commendable as well. Both the quality of the features and the comfort they offer make the Audi Q4 e-tron a great choice for an electric SUV.

The space in the cabin and cargo is lower than the primary competitors of the Audi Q4 e-tron but the room available is not too small for an SUV. The Volkswagen ID.4 comes with the biggest space available for passengers and it has the largest cargo space of 30.3 cu.-ft. Less space is compensated by the stylish features inside and they offer enough advantages as well. The heated seats and different settings offer optimum comfort for the passengers while the folding seats can always make larger space behind them. The different aspects like cupholders in both rows, keyless entry, power cargo access, and smart interior lighting make the Audi SUV more stylish and at the same time, more comfortable. Some of the key features in the interior segment of the 2023 Q4 e-tron are -

  • Heated Front Seats
  • 8-way power driver seat and 4-way power lumbar
  • Manual Recline and Fore/Aft Movement in passenger seats
  • 40-20-40 Folding Bench Front Facing Fold Forward Seatback Rear Seat
  • Power Rear Windows

  • Front and Rear Cupholders
  • Remote Keyless Entry
  • Power Cargo Access
  • Leatherette Door Trim Insert
  • Fade-To-Off Interior Lighting

Infotainment System

The infotainment unit of the Audi Q4 e-tron from 2023 has different options for different trims and the basic trim has enough excitement to offer. Most of the necessary features can be expected from the base trim but the expensive trims offer some improved technologies as well. The 10.1-inch and 11.6-inch display of the Audi’s MMI infotainment are two great options to choose from depending on the trims. The intuitive system with voice control facility makes the overall technology quite alluring for the Audi compact electric SUV. Some of the key features in the infotainment system are -

  • 10.1-inch infotainment display with optional 11.6-inch setup
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
  • Voice Activation
  • Radio Data System with Streaming Audio
  • Window Grid And Roof Mount Diversity Antenna
  • 2 LCD Monitors In The Front
  • Audi Connect
  • Navigation with real-time traffic display

Exterior
9.0/10

The 19" 5-W-Spoke Aero Design Wheels beautifully compliments the exterior and the sunroofs with power sunshades make it alluring for the customers. The road presence of the car is excellent for any car from Audi and the Q4 e-tron is certainly one of the best in this segment. The attractive front fascia, the shoulder lines and the side profile of the electric SUV improve the charisma effectively. The Audi e-tron is powered by several technical features and on the exterior, the SUV has multiple added advantages as well. The tinted glass with galvanized steel panels and black or chrome side window trim make the car look excitingly attractive. The rain-detecting variable intermittent wipers with heated jets offer better advantages for the driver in different situations like rain or storm. The roof rack rails offer to hold larger bags and trolleys above the car and the LED lights give an unmatched exterior to the 2023 Audi e-tron.

The Audi Q4 e-tron comes with the highest ground clearance among the competitors but 6.9 inches is not too impressive for an SUV. However, considering the fact that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Ford Mustang Mach-E have much smaller ground clearance, the Audi is the most suitable option in this segment. It is notable that both the Hyundai and the Ford have a bigger structure with longer wheelbase but the 2023 Q4 e-tron is quite heavier with a 4,674 lbs curb weight. Some of the key features in the exterior are -

  • 19" 5-W-Spoke Aero Design Wheels with All-Season Tires
  • 1st And 2nd Row Sunroof with Power Sunshade
  • Black Front Windshield Trim and Chrome Side Windows Trim

Safety
9.0/10

The NHTSA authorities have not provided any reports for the 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron SUV but IIHS has given the highest scores in almost all categories in safety testing. The 2022 version of the e-tron SUV was awarded the Top Safety Pick Plus and it is expected to continue this year as well. The standard features like stability and traction control help in making the SUV to be more stable and reliable while the Pre Sense technology is a great safety suite. The overall features and the entire frame ensure that the SUV is a structurally good choice in the market. Some of the key safety features in the SUV are -

  • Side Impact Beams
  • Audi connect CARE Emergency SOS
  • Audi Pre Sense 360
  • Top View camera with Virtual 360 view
  • Park assist
  • Audi Side Assist Blind Spot and Park Assist
  • Collision Mitigation
  • Low Tire Pressure Warning

Competition
8.0/10

2023 Audi Q4 e-tron SUV vs. 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5 SUV

The 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5 has a slightly better performance in the engine segment and its overall driving and riding experience is great as well. The braking system and mileage are impressive and it offers much better fuel economy than the Audi e-tron. The size of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 is slightly larger which makes it a little more spacious on the inside and at the same time, the style and comfort of the Hyundai SUV are commendable. The exciting exterior, incredible features and overall safety system make the Hyundai IONIQ 5 a great option in the market. The competitive price can make anyone think twice when choosing between the two but in the engine performance and mileage, the 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5 has clear advantages.

2023 Audi Q4 e-tron SUV vs. 2023 Volkswagen ID.4

The 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 has neck-to-neck competition in the engine section as it offers almost the same figures as the Audi Q4 e-tron. The riding experience of the Volkswagen ID.4 is reliable and comfort is guaranteed as well. The mileage and fuel efficiency is slightly better than the Audi but the Volkswagen SUV has much bigger space in the cabin. It ensures better comfort for the passengers and larger cargo space to carry more luggage. The size of the vehicle is almost the same as its competitor and its exterior style is commendable. The 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 has the same price tag as the Audi Q4 e-tron base trim which means a buyer can go either way when choosing between the two.

2023 Audi Q4 e-tron SUV vs. 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV

The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E is a very strong rival for the Audi SUV as it has much higher torque and power output. The engine performance is quite impressive and the mileage offered is better than the Q4 e-tron as well. The riding experience is great and the braking system is efficient in the Ford Mustang Mach-E. The overall structure is slightly larger but the space inside is almost the same as the Audi SUV. However, the exciting features, safety system and overall style make the 2023 Mustang Mach-E a great bargain at a comfortable price. Due to better engine performance and more beneficial fuel economy, the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E can be a great option to pick over the Audi Q4 e-tron from 2023.

Final Verdict

The 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron SUV is a great car in its category and it has some exciting aspects to cover its backlogs in the engine area. Most importantly, the Q4 e-tron SUV comes with five trims with different advantages and justifiable price tags offering suitable options for people with different preferences. The brand value, performance and reliability of the Audi Q4 e-tron make it a great choice for anyone looking for an excellent electric SUV at a reasonable price.
