Overview

Following the huge success of the latest 2019 Vantage after the revamp, Aston Martin has come out with the all-new 2020 Vantage Coupe. By upgrading some existing features, this new addition is meant to enhance the braking response even further. There is an AMG-made 4.0-liter V8 engine under the hood and it is placed as far back into the chassis as possible for better weight distribution, thereby improving the car's dynamics.

Buying Advice

The 2020 Aston Martin Vantage coupe is a standalone trim that costs around $156,081. This coupe contains all the performance-oriented features you would expect from a car this powerful and expensive. In addition, it is one of the most beautifully designed coupes currently on the market that is for sale.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Its front end has an aggressive, sleek design because the nose points slightly forward. A highly aerodynamic structure and design are employed here as well. Its potent engine is also capable of dashing 0-60 mph in only 3.6 seconds, so it is sure to raise your pulse. With a price tag of $156,080, it competes with the likes of the Audi R8 V10 Quattro, Mercedes-Benz AMG GT C, and Porsche Carrera 4S coupe.

Features
6.0/10

There is only one trim level available for the Aston Martin Vantage Coupe. There is also an AMR (Aston Martin Racing) version that we will review separately. The Aston Martin Vantage coupe sells for around $156,081, which seems reasonable considering its specs and the class it competes in. The coupe comes with a Biturbo V8 engine made by AMG. Additionally, Adaptive Damping System and Skyhook technology modes namely Sport, Sport +, and Track are included. Additionally, there are 20.0-inch wheels, cornering lights, a leather sports seat with memory, and much more.

Fuel Economy
5.0/10

Though it may seem surprising, the Vantage’s engine doesn't seem to be as thirsty as you would think it is. Indeed, it has the best MPG rating in its class, which is a huge advantage for it. It is rated at 18 MPG in the city and up to 24 MPG on the highway. On the other hand, the combined mileage is estimated to be approximately 20 MPG, which is quite good. There is a 19.3-gallon fuel tank on this coupe, which is adequate for a car of this size. Another positive aspect of this coupe is its low emissions, compared to some other rivals.

In terms of gas mileage, the Vantage Coupe here easily wins the show. But, the Porsche Carrera 4S, on the other hand, is just as good as Vantage but due to its smaller tank, it doesn’t get the desired range. So, both in terms of MPG rating and range, the winner here is undoubtedly the Aston Martin Vantage Coupe.

Interior
9.7/10

Aston Martin's 2020 Vantage Coupe is good-looking and very advanced, and it's designed with the driver in mind. It is very similar to any other typical track-focused coupe in that it offers very little for the co-passenger. Its interior elements are sure to trigger memories of other Mercedes-Benz cars that have similar designs.

Aston Martin has packed this small cockpit with all the necessary features and details. Premium leather or Alcantara material is used for all touchpoints, making it lightweight, while keeping quality high. Alcantara materials are very commonly used in high-performance cars to eliminate the unnecessary weights that impede acceleration.

The space inside is also large enough for two people to sit comfortably. In some cases, drivers will wear helmets on the track, so the headroom inside is designed accordingly. Also standard are power-adjustable sport seats with memory functions, as well as dual-zone automatic climate control. The coupe is available with ventilated seats that have heating and cooling capabilities which is optional. There is not much space for cargo in this coupe, but it is better than most of its rivals, at 10.0 cubic feet.

The space inside the Vantage Coupe is pretty good for both the driver and co-passenger. AMG GT C and Vantage Coupe are very similar when it comes to dimensions, and they are the best in terms of cargo space, too. But, the Porsche Carrera 4S here is the only coupe that has room for four, albeit hardly usable at the back. Some features of this car’s interior are mentioned below:

  • Cruise Control w/Steering Wheel Controls
  • Alcantara Simulated Suede Door Trim Insert
  • Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Controls
  • 10-Way Power Driver Seat with Power Recline
  • Leather Steering Wheel

What’s there to keep you entertained?

Aston Martin has improved a lot in the infotainment part in terms of quality and interface over the years. But, still, the system looks a bit dated, to be honest, but it is acceptable to some extent for this segment of cars. The big 8.0-inch display sits on top of the dash which can only be operated through the rotary knob for functionality. The screen has a good and logical interface and the quality is again quite good. The system has been taken up from the old Mercedes cars though.

Some important features like Apple Carplay and Android Auto are still missing in this system but a navigation feature has been integrated into it. Some other basic infotainment features include 6 Aston Martin speakers, Bluetooth, and charging ports. Some infotainment features of this car are mentioned below:

  • 8.0-inch Display
  • 6 Aston Martin Audio System
  • Satellite Navigation
  • Bluetooth
  • iPod and iPhone integration

Exterior
9.7/10

The 2020 Aston Martin Vantage Coupe is all about performance and looks. Its sheer appearance is very likely to turn heads. Even if your coupe is parked in a parking lot, you can still see it on other social media profiles with people posting a selfie along with your coupe. The long hood of this coupe houses a signature Aston Martin mesh grille to pull air into the engine compartment to keep it cool. Aston Martin did a pretty good job of making it look aggressive while keeping aerodynamics in mind. It is the rear part of the Vantage that makes it stand out and look cool.

It has beautiful lines and a wide hip structure that gives it a muscular appearance. Aston Martin's signature ultra-slim rear lights illuminate the entire width of the tailgate at the rear as well. In terms of its features, it has 20.0-inch wheels as standard, and the front slim projector headlamps are LED with daytime running lights. Additionally, you'll find cornering lights, LED taillights, heated side mirrors, and more.

The ground clearance of the Aston Martin Vantage comes out to be the highest which gives it an edge over other coupes. The lightest coupe here is the Carrera 4S with a curb weight of 3487 lbs followed by Vantage. Other than that, the width and overall size of the Vantage are very compact compared to other rivals here. Some of the key exterior features are:

  • LED Brakelights
  • Cornering Lights
  • Auto On/Off Projector Beam Headlamps and LED DRL’s
  • Chrome Side Windows Trim
  • 20" Y-Spoke Silver Wheels
  • Front mesh grille

Safety
4.0/10

Among performance cars, the Aston Martin Vantage Coupe belongs to the premium segment, serving a very niche market. This is why safety agencies like NHTSA and IIHS do not perform crash tests on nearly all vehicles with a price tag of $100k and above. We agree that it doesn't have as many safety features as a family-oriented vehicle would have. Nevertheless, there are a few things you would expect a high-performance car to have to ensure safety. These include:

  • Front And Rear Parking Sensors
  • Tire Specific Low Tire Pressure Warning
  • Aerial View Camera System
  • Blind-spot monitoring

2020 Aston Martin Vantage Coupe vs 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT C

The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT C is a very capable performance coupe that is currently available on the market. It shares the same engine as the Vantage, which is also designed by AMG. The AMG GT C is more powerful and its shifts are smoother and more precise than the Vantage. However, the acceleration achieved by both of them is almost the same. The Vantage Coupe is one of the best-looking coupes in this comparison, and it is also very fuel-efficient.

2020 Aston Martin Vantage Coupe vs 2020 Audi R8 V10 Quattro

TheAudi R8 is a bit more expensive than Aston Martin's Vantage, but the R8 offers more features, a much nicer interior, and a V10 engine. Additionally, the R8 has more acceleration and better handling. The looks of the R8 are once again very sporty and aggressive, so it is sure to catch the interest of any enthusiast. The Vantage Coupe offers better ride comfort and fuel efficiency as well as more cargo space.

2020 Aston Martin Vantage Coupe vs 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S

The Porsche Carrera 4S is significantly cheaper than the Vantage Coupe. The 911 Carrera has a slightly slower acceleration than the Vantage Coupe. Moreover, the Carrera 4S has room for four people to sit inside, and its handling is much better and more exciting than that of the Vantage. However, the performance of Vantage remains at the top and the engine is more powerful and has better mileage.

Final Verdict
8.2/10

Yes, the 2020 Aston Martin Vantage Coupe is a strong competitor to its German rivals. Despite having the same engine as the AMG GT C, it does wonders in terms of performance. Though, its German rivals are better equipped inside and have a more responsive ride. Despite that, this coupe is one of a kind, and since the 2019 upgrades, it has become more efficient and capable. With its sleek and cutting-edge exterior, the Vantage Coupe is the perfect track dwelling machine if you are willing to spend at least $150,000 on it. Also, make sure to check out its rivals, like the AMG GT C and R8 Quattro, which offer great value as well.
