Quest was a reasonable choice, but shortly after basic warranty expired, it has had numerous repairs. Transimision failure should be a class action law suit - ours failed at 80K. The bumper is so soft, bends in if you sneezeRead More

... long trips to Florida. The hidden trunk in the back provided nice storage. We were making some nice memories with our van. In the first year or two we started to worry a little when our van would stall on downhill angles with 1/4 tank of gas or less. A technical service bulletin software update fixed that problem with no cost. Routine maintenance generally kept our vanRead More

... has gone through 6 sets of tires, and seems to need breaks every few months. It is VERY costly to own a Nissan Quest. I suggest, if you're in the market for a used mini van, stay away from the Quest, and look at something like a Kia Sedona, which has a stronger warranty.Read More

Coming off fresh after a complete redesign in the outgoing model, the 2012 Nissan Quest continues to be the most novel offering in the minivan segment. It looks the part with its enticing exterior design and serves large families with its capacious cabin and refined quality. It offers ample versatility with its foldable second-row seats, which makes it a perfect choice for your camping trips as well. It is amply equipped and though safety ratings are not available, the vehicle upholds the Japanese standards of reliability. In the current iteration, it has only 86 complaints registered to its name. There is one recall and a similar number of investigations. None of the problems are largely concerning and keeping in mind their overall impact, there is not much that buyers have to worry about. A 2012 Nissan Quest for sale is available at $25,990 and falls in a similar ballpark as the Chrysler Town and Country, the Honda Odyssey, and the Toyota Sienna.

2012 Nissan Quest User Complaints and Problems

Electric System Complaints

  • Malfunctioning instrument panel cluster: In the list of the 2012 Nissan Quest problems, buyers of the minivan have reported the instrument cluster losing its power. As a result, the panel remains devoid of lighting and in some cases, the cluster flickers as well. The implication is that the vehicular information is difficult to comprehend and becomes almost illegible.
  • Failed fuel level indicator: Across the current iteration, buyers of the 2012 Quest have reported the fuel gauge showing improper fuel levels, which has resulted in the vehicle stalling inadvertently due to lack of fuel.

Mechanical Complaints

  • Stalling of engine: The Nissan Quest’s engine problems are a recurring cause of concern. In most cases, complainants have recorded the engine stalling inadvertently at fuel levels below the half-tank mark. This happens due to an interruption in the fuel supply to the engine, which causes the minivan to lose its motive power. Currently, there is one recall introduced by Nissan, which deals with the issue.
  • Issues with the transmission unit: The Nissan Quest transmission problems are majorly concerned with its CVT unit. In a handful of cases, buyers have reported the transmission slipping and hesitating to shift between gears, which has an impact on the overall performance.

Structural Complaints

  • Door lock problems: The Nissan Quest sliding door problems are fairly recurring. In the current iteration as well, buyers of the minivanhave reported the rear doors opening and closing inadvertently. A similar issue has also been recorded with the driver’s door, which fails unexpectedly and cannot be opened. Both issues are hazardous considering they threaten the safety of the occupants in untoward circumstances.

Dealers will reprogram the fuel pump control module, free of cost.

Should you buy the 2012 Nissan Quest?

In general opinion, the Nissan Quest is an all-around proposition. It nails the brief of being an everyday vehicle for soccer moms and large families and vaunts impressive hauling capabilities. Being freshly revamped, it also sports the most novel features and is a highly dignified offering that rides impressively without being troubled by its bearing dimensions. Even in terms of reliability, the verdict is similar. For a vehicle that sells close to 20,000 units, the complaints list seems constricted. The 2012 Nissan Quest recalls are also limited and do not have a widespread impact, making the ownership experience rather hassle-free. So, yes, for us the Japanese minivan proves to be a winner.
