The Nissan GT-R has been in the market for a long time now but has had very few upgrades over the years. Yet, it continues to be one of the hottest-selling supercars in spite of other manufacturers bringing in new models. The 2021 GT-R’s twin-turbo V6 unit makes a whopping 565 horses as standard. It has a mind-boggling acceleration, a crazy exhaust note, and is an absolute joy to drive.

However, a prospective buyer might wonder if the car hasn’t had a major revamp in almost 10 years, is it still reliable? Supercars like this are known to be plagued with problems and aren’t the most reliable vehicles. But the GT-R isn’t like most supercars. There surprisingly haven’t been any major complaints about the car and it has had just one recall so far. In this article, we talk about the problems of the 2021 Nissan GT-R to find out if it is a reliable vehicle.

2021 Nissan GT-R User Complaints and Problems

There are no complaints registered against the Nissan GT-R on the NHTSA website. However, there have been reports about the GT-R’s problems on enthusiast forums and websites.

Mechanical Problems

  • Engine - There have been a few complaints reported by owners of the GT-R about the bell housing rattle. The bell house tends to rattle a little too much because of a loose bearing that is attached to the car’s flywheel shaft.
  • Brakes - Many owners have reported the brakes fading away a little too soon than expected. Excessive usage of brakes on any car will certainly wear out the brakes. However, in the GT-R’s case, owners have reported a steep decline in the stopping distance over a short period of ownership and low mileage.
  • Transmissions - A few GT-R owners have reported that the car has troubles with the transmission. The most reported complaint was that it had faulty control solenoids which caused troubles with transmission parts that wore down at a quicker rate than they normally should.

Exterior Problems

  • Exterior Lighting - A few owners of the GT-R have also complained about condensation within the headlights. This is a common problem with owners who live in colder regions with unpredictable climates. Condensation on the headlights results in lower road illumination and visibility at night and can be dangerous while driving.

The steering knuckle or rear axle housing can deform.

The steering knuckle or rear axle could deform upon impacts, such as from hitting a curb, resulting in a loss of steering control, or possible wheel separation. Both of these conditions can increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and replace the front steering knuckle and rear axle housing, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 26, 2021.

Should you buy the 2021 Nissan GT-R?

The 2021 Nissan GT-R is a crazy-driving machine and one of the most sought-after high-performance cars on the market. There haven’t been significant problems reported about the GT-R and like every other performance car, it has a few minor niggles. However, you can still live with those as these aren’t all that grave issues. Yes, the GT-R has had one recall so far but the problem seems to have been fixed and there hasn’t been any further recall to fix the same issue. We think the GT-R is a pretty reliable vehicle by supercar standards and you should not face any significant problems owning it.
