Overview

The 2016 Nissan GT-R rumbles down the lane with its 545 hp Twin-Turbo V6 engine that jams the tracks through its 3 seconds 0-60 MPH dash. Having priced at a starting MSRP of $103,000, its trim lineup of Premium and Black Edition is now extended with an all-new configuration of 45th Anniversary Gold Edition costing $104,000 of fortune with which cometh Silica Brass color shade, gold-finish number plate, and a special center console.

2016 Nissan GT-R Buying Advice

The GT-R 2016 is a complete package that offers you incomparable power performance and corresponding dynamics. Though it is a carry-over model, so one can feel the same punch and control with its 2015 MY which costs $1,300 less, however, this hardly makes any difference.

Bashing a top speed of 196 MPH at its best, the Nissan GT-R 2016 brings its standard against the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z-51 3LT(195 MPH), Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS(187 MPH), and Ford Mustang Shelby GT-350R(186 MPH). Moreover, Nissan has been generous to its age-old enthusiasts this season as well with its 600-horsepower GT-R NISMO which has a price tag of $151,500 for its 0.3 seconds quicker 0-60 MPH than the GT-R.

2016 Nissan GT-R for sale

The 2016 Nissan GT-R is available for sale with a financing option of $2,286/month for 36 months which can reduce to $1,229/month for 72 months. In both scenarios, there is no downpayment that one has to incur while purchasing it.

Buying Advice

The Premium trim of the 2016 Nissan GT-R is the perfect one to go for as it is a mix of fine finish inside the cabin, comfort seating, and decent interior involvement along with a trendsetting power surge that overwhelms all the beasts on the terrain. Its standard features are at par with higher trims and the safety suite follows the same lead. Therefore, it is advisable to invest in the base Premium only.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2016 Nissan GT-R continues to be the same power beat with its 545 hp under the hood with extreme command on its handling through sport-tuned suspensions. Not just that, it has an exceptional poised balanced and dampness at its end with its Bilstein DampTronic driver-adjustable shock absorber that keeps its Premium Midship Platform in tach when hitched in action with a unique independent rear transaxle ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system.

As far as finances are concerned, the Nissan GT-R 2016 is destined to have a maintenance of $10,652 in 5 years for the Premium trim. However, it reduces by a few margins to $10,241 for the Black Edition. Speaking of the repairing expense, the tally comes at $12,718 for both variants. While the depreciation in resale value ranges from $26,375 for the Premium to $27,138 for the Black Edition after the same 5 years.

Features
8.0/10

2016 Nissan GT-R has been introduced in two trims namely Premium at $103,000 and Black Edition at $130,000. The Premium configuration owns Heated Leather Upholstered Seats, Driver Selectable Mode, and Bose Audi System inside the cabin.

However, the 2016 GT-R adds Heated Recaro Sport Seats and RAYS 20-inch 6-Spoke Lightweight Forged-Alloy Wheels over the standard ones for the Black Edition. Along with that, we get Black Carbo Exterior Trim for this higher edition as inherent.

Fuel Economy
5.0/10

Being a devilish sportscar, the 2016 Nissan GT-R justifies its tag with a mere combined return of 19 MPG only with which it goes 371 miles on average in a go when its 19.5-gallon fuel tank is full to the highest. Its fuel economy takes a dip by 3 MPG as we get ourselves within the cities but raises by 3 MPG on the highways.

In terms of combined range, the Nissan GT-R can travel 115 miles more than the Ford Mustang Shelby GT-350R. Part of the reason goes to GT-R's 3.5 gallons bigger fuel tank. However, it struggles against the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z-51 3LT by 18 miles in the same category because of its 2 MPG lower efficiency altogether.

Interior
8.0/10

"Nobody will mistake the Nissan GT-R for a luxury car, but this performance-oriented interior isn't without its charms." -Kelley Blue Book

The 2016 Nissan GT-R interior hosts heated front seats with 8-way and 4-way power-adjustability for the driver and passenger respectively. Meanwhile, these upgrade to Heated Recaro Sport Seats as soon as we step inside the GT-R Black Edition. While the duo of leather upholstery and Alcantara finishes wind up for the cabin touches.

The Voice Activated Dual Zone Front Automatic Air Conditioning has been integrated as well for the Nissan GT-R 2016 for defined temperature regulation. Moreover, it specs a blend of leatherette dashboard with contrast stitching beside that leather-finish sport steering wheel as standard along with under-seat ducts and fade-to-off interior lighting.

As per data, the GT-R 2016 can accommodate 2 more passengers than the Corvette Stingray and Shelby GT-350R inside its cabin. But the Shelby GT-350R, in the meantime, can load 4.7 cu-ft more cargo while the Corvette has 6.2 cu-ft extra over GT-R. Apart from that, a 7-inch display has been fitted by the GT-R on the front having Nissan hard-drive navigation in addition.

The 2016 GT-R gets you in the groove with its inherent Bose Audi System that has built-in Active Noise Control embedded. Also, the XM NavTraffic and XM NavWeather are there for you to use alongside the SiriusXM satellite radio and Bluetooth hands-free phone system. Some of the notable interior features have been mentioned below:

  • Heated leather seats with power adjustability
  • Voice-activated dual-zone front automatic air conditioning
  • Nissan hard-drive navigation 7.0-inch display
  • Bose Audio Unit
  • Bluetooth Audio Streaming
  • XM NavTraffic and XM NavWeather

Exterior
8.0/10

The 2016 Nissan GT-R kicks on the street with its iconic design philosophy styled in 8 exterior colors. Its track-inspired silhouette sits on the RAYS 20-inch 6-Spoke Lightweight Forged-Alloy Wheels in the Black Edition and RAYS 20-Spoke Forged-Alloy Wheels in the Premium trim having Brembo Calipers attached to its ceramic ventilated brake rotors at the same time. And there are a couple of vents behind wheel arches to take off that massive heat generation under the hood.

Flashing the traditional round tail lights on the back with a sporty wing spoiler and carbon fiber rear diffuser, the Nissan GT-R 2016 is a complete demon in its thrilling appeal. Moreover, to further assist its performance dynamics, the Dunlop Extreme-Performance Summer Run-Flat Tires come standard for that exceptional traction at the ground. While the auto-leveling adaptive headlamps manage the balance between functionality and overall outplay.

Among all, the Nissan GT-R weighs the heaviest, that being 553 lbs more than the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z-51 3LT and 412 lbs more than the Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS. Not just that, the GT-R has got  13 inches longer wheelbase than the Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS as well, which may help it in the straight-line stability at higher speeds. Some of the notable exterior features have been mentioned below:

  • Chrome Grille Surrounds.
  • Sports Spoiler.
  • Performance Diffuser.
  • 20-inch Aluminum Wheels.
  • Quad-Exhaust Setup.
  • LED Headlights.
  • Mirror Turn Signals.

Safety
7.0/10

The 2016 Nissan GT-R is not a class that stands for the NHTSA and IIHS safety ratings as its structural soundness and cabin isolation are simply a league on their own. However, it gets nothing more than a generic safety suite devoid of advanced assets just like any other sportscar. Some of them have been mentioned below:

  • Traction Control System
  • Frontal and Side Airbags
  • Dual-Stage Airbag System
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Anti-lock Braking System
  • Ride Control Sport Tuned Suspension

Competition
6.0/10

2016 Nissan GT-R vs. 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z-51 3LT

The 2016 Nissan GT-R has got a clear edge against the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z-51 3LT in driving dynamics and the power curve. Simply better in both acceleration and top speed maneuvering, the GT-R further expands its superiority with a more spacious cabin and apt interior technology. Hence, it has to be the 2016 GT-R over the Chevy.

2016 Nissan GT-R vs. 2016 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS

The 2016 Nissan GT-R can overwhelm the likes of the 2016 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS at ease with its more exhilaration at the wheels and complementary cabin isolation. Its power surge is magnanimous and so does its handling pursuit with available standard features. Though the interior feels equally desirable for both in terms of finish, holistically it is GT-R 2016 that inclines to have a lead.

2016 Nissan GT-R vs. 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-350R

Both the 2016 Nissan GT-R and 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-350R have exemplary power to get you spirited but the former stands as a more complete sportscar between the two because of its perfect balance throughout its curve. Not only that, but the 2016 GT-R also vouches for more range meaning one can excite himself/herself with such performance for a longer period. The same can be said for the interior technology and engagement inside the GT-R.

Final Verdict

The Nissan GT-R has been one of those sports coupes that remain unabashed in its performance, cabin insulation, and technology sides. The vibe at the throttle pedal is one of a kind for this beast while the driver-assistive technology and high-end build quality are there to uphold that stance without compromising on the interior convenience. Hence, it is surely an epitome of the segment.
