Overview

The Nissan Frontier Crew Cab continues in 2018 with no major changes compared to the previous model year of the truck. The Nissan Frontier offers good value for your money as it is relatively cheaper than the rivals. However, the affordable pricing comes with some compromises in the form of outdated interior and fewer features compared to the more updated and modern rivals. Still, the higher models of the Nissan Frontier Crew Cab offer a pretty good list of standard features for the price you are paying.

Buying Advice

The 2018 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab does not offer the more modern features that the rivals offer but it gets the basics done. You can go for the Pro-4X trim of the Nissan Frontier as it offers excellent off-road capabilities for the money you are paying. It also adds many useful features standard with the truck. It is also less expensive than the similarly equipped rivals.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2018 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab scores a good 80 out of 100 in reliability by JD Power. The resale value and the quality of the 2018 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab are rated 'Great' as per the Consumer rating by JD Power.  In terms of safety, the box design is properly designed to withstand frontal and side impacts. The chassis and the body framework are well insulated and have a massive grille on the front to boast its strength.

The cost to own a 2018 Nissan Frontier S breaks down to maintenance cost which comes to be $6,518, however, if you go with SV trim the maintenance cost would go up to $6,562 due to more features incorporated into the latter. There is a significant increase in the depreciation cost in the Pro 4X trim and Desert Runner- $12,884 and $11,873 as they are the top trims and they depreciate more quickly than the base trims.

Fuel Economy
5.0/10

The 2018 Nissan Frontier is pretty low on MPG figures, however, its MPG is not expected to be a number one factor in while purchasing a Mid Size Pick up truck. In simple terms, the Frontier is a Fuel Guzzler and would drain your pocket if you go for off-roading 3-4 times in a week. The range of driving that the mid-size pickup comes with is a decent figure in the city however its competitors- 2018 Chevy Colorado and 2018 GMC Canyon are massively outperforming on a range of driving as well as MPG. The 2018 GMC Canyon can go for a maximum of 546 miles on the highway on a full tank.

It is having better MPG figures than the 2018 Nissan Frontier, 2018 Toyota Tacoma, and 2018 Chevrolet Colorado by 3 MPG, 4 MPG, and 1 MPG respectively. The highway range and MPG rating of the 2018 Nissan Frontier are similar to that of the 2018 Toyota Tacoma. The 2018 GMC Canyon is having more range of driving than the 2018 Nissan Frontier, 2018 Toyota Tacoma, and 2018 Chevrolet Colorado by 103 miles and 42 miles respectively.

Interior
6.2/10

"The 2018 Nissan Frontier is a mid-size pickup that fits like a pair of our favorite jeans in the back of our closet ;and the Frontier is just as old" - The Car Connection

The cloth upholstery of the 2018 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab looks immaculate and does not wear off easily. The seating design of the Nissan Frontier 2018 lacks comfort as its seating angle is not up to the mark for off-road conditions. Where it lacks in comfort it makes up in extra space as its glove box can hold all the important equipment and additional accessories like snow chains, tow ball hitch, and documents. The snow chain and tow ball hitch accessories would cost an additional $350 each.  An infotainment system with a 5.8-inch touchscreen is available for the 2018 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab. Having said that, it does not have 4G hotspot capabilities as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but, its competitors on the other hand are offering them.

Competition

2018 Nissan Frontier vs. 2018 Toyota Tacoma

The Toyota Tacoma gets updated features when you compare it with the Nissan Frontier. Tacoma gets impressive off-road capabilities and the reliability of Toyota makes it a great choice in the segment. However, none of the trucks can be considered modern by any chance. The Toyota Tacoma is still better between the two.

2018 Nissan Frontier vs. 2018 Chevrolet Colorado

The best option in the entire segment is the Chevy Colorado. For the money, the Chevrolet Colorado provides a fantastic overall package. It delivers fantastic capabilities in addition to having a long range of amazing standard features. In most ways, the Chevy Colorado is a superior choice over the Nissan Frontier.

2018 Nissan Frontier vs. 2018 GMC Canyon

In terms of cargo capacity and off-road situations, the GMC Canyon is inferior to Nissan Frontier. The GMC Canyon, however, outperforms the Nissan Frontier in every other category. With greater standard features, the cabin becomes more premium and sophisticated. The GMC Canyon is the undisputed victor in this comparison since it offers more inside room than the Nissan Frontier.

Final Verdict
7.0/10

In comparison to competitors which are more equipped, this year's Frontier Crew Cab is more reasonably priced. But if you want to get anything for a little less money, you have to give up a lot. If you want to buy a Nissan Frontier, you might want to wait a year because it will likely receive major modifications in that time.
