Overview
The 2016 Mini Clubman Hatchback is a subcompact hatchback offered in 2 trims, starting off at a base MSRP of $24,100. For that price, it mainly competes with the Chevrolet Sonic RS Hatchback, the Hyundai Accent Hatchback, and the Volkswagen Beetle 2-door Hatchback which seats only 4 individuals whereas the rest of the hatchbacks in the segment allow 5 people inside. That said, all rivals are more affordable than the Clubman. Between 2 trims, the Clubman offers 2 powertrains. The base engine is a 1.5L Turbo Inline-3 capable of making 134 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. If more power is required, there is also a 189 horsepower-making 2.0L Turbo Inline-4. Both engines are mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. However, the former engine can also be connected to an optional 6-speed automatic transmission whereas the latter is available with two 8-speed automatic transmissions. The Clubman reaches 60 mph from zero in 8.9 seconds on its base engine, which gets pumped up to 6.9 seconds with the 2.0L Turbo Inline-4 engine. Depending on the powertrain, the Clubman can manage a combined fuel economy between 26 and 28 mpg. While we’re on the topic of choices, the 11 striking colors the Clubman comes in really pull you towards itself.
