Overview

The 2016 Toyota Yaris makes for an excellent contender in the subcompact hatchback segment. With 3 trims on offer, the Toyota Yaris has a base MSRP of $14,895, with prices going all the way up to an MSRP of $16,870, competing directly with the Honda Fit, the Kia Rio, and the Chevrolet Spark.

Only a 1.5L Inline-4 engine is offered, mated to a standard 5-speed manual or an optional 4-speed automatic. Together, they produce 106 horsepower and 103 lb-ft of torque. Accelerating from 0-60 in 9.5 seconds, the Yaris maintains a combined fuel economy of 33 MPG. Toyota offers the Yaris in 8 stunning colors, with the Blue Streak Metallic being a particular favorite of ours.

The 2016 Toyota Yaris hatchback has been co-developed by Toyota with Mazda and hence manages to stand a class above in the subcompact sedan segment. It comes pretty loaded right from its base model and adds even more functionalities as you go up the trim ladder. In the video below, the folks at "Autotrader" explain the value offered by the 2016 Yaris in detail.

Key observations in the video:

  • Great ride & handling
  • Superior interior
  • Plenty of standard features
  • Affordable price tag
  • Great fuel efficiency

Buying Advice

The 2016 Yaris is available in the 2-door and 4-door hatchback body styles. Our recommendation is the top-of-the-range SE trim with manual transmission. It is only available in the 4-door configuration but it has better upholstery, bigger wheels, and additional features which are worth skipping the lower trims.
